I have used the filter for four weeks and very satisfied with the results. A simple designed filter with high performamce results. The downside is the cost of replacing the HEPA filter approximately for times a year for a yearly cost of about $80.00 Without question, the best filtering systems use a blower for air flow. This 3M filter outperforms the metal grid type like Ionic Breeze which does not have a fan. For the best results at a reasonable cost I highly recommend this 3M product.

In my opinion, there are few products we consumers are less qualified to judge than air purifiers. The word "seems" keeps coming up- it seems the air is cleaner; it seems that I can sleep better; etc. Really, if you see less dust, for example, does it really make an appreciable difference to your health? Even Consumer Reports, with all the science at their disposal, doesn't do a sample of the population over time to show that one air purifier keeps us healthier than another. I live in a very old, drafty house in Chicago. I was getting sinus infections regularly, and looking back realized they began after big rains or melting snow. An air quality expert determined the culprit was mold. I couldn't afford mold remediation, and he suggested an air purifier in the meantime. We don't have central air, so I needed more than one. I bought a CR-recommended Kenmore. Big and noisy, and blows cold air- not good during our winters, but it SEEMED to make a difference. Then I discovered the 3M Ultra Clean. I will try anything 3M- from tape to home remodelling products, their stuff works best. The Ultra Clean takes up less space, is much less noisy and circulates the air gently and thoroughly. Turning it on I had the immediate impression of "fresh air". I placed it in the TV room, where the mold is the worst and where we spend a lot of (too much!) time. We had lots of snow in Dec., then it got warm and lots of melting snow/rain. The moldy smell and "chokey" feeling is virtually gone. Try it, give it a week or two trial. It has an electronic monitor that tells you when to change the filter. My model, which looks different than the one in the manual (?), has this grapefruit-sized three speed selector knob on top, with swirling green lights (filter ok) that change to yellow (needs changing soon) then red (change the filter). (You might find the lights annoying in a darkened room.) Still green after two monts, but I'll assume it works. On the downside, the knob has a very uncertain feel and you have to play with it until it settles on a speeed. Maybe the model pictured in the manual is an upgrade. If it's a later model, you might want to try and find one of those.

I am doing construction around my apartment and purchased two units. I was concerned the units on high would be very noisy and not powerful enough. To my surprise, after putting them on for only 30 minutes it took away all the dust smell and they were very quiet.

My boyfriend is a heavy smoker and I was tired of his apartment smelling like a bar, so I bought this model (did not realize there was a larger one). I would have to say that this is probably one of the best purchases of my life! Within a few hours of turning it on, the whole living room/kitchen area smelled fresher. By the end of the weekend it was 99% better. I also moved the unit into the 2 bedrooms for a few hours each just to freshen as well.
Note: I read that some people had trouble finding filters in the store so I bought 2 so that I would have on hand.
Only reason I did not give 5 stars is because I want to see how it performs over time.

I have had this air purifier for about 2 months now. I like that the filter is white because I can see exactly what its taking out of the air. I don't have to wonder if its really working. You will be amazed.
The first few days you wonder if its really doing anything because the filter stays completely clean but then it seems like overnight it starts to show its results.
We now need to change the filter (even though the red light isn't on, its blowing out smelly air so we figure its time). The old one is yellowish and full of pet hair from being a smoking household with 4 cats & a dog.
I hate that the filters are pricey but I would much rather pay a little more and have something that actually works.

I have owned pricey (dollars) air purifiers before and they work well but they take up room space, need pricey filters that are next to impossible to find and the units are heavy to move around. I LOVE this product. Thank you 3M. I am about to buy a second one for the upstairs. The most amazing thing is if you ever wonder if the darned thing is working just open her up and look. THe beautiful clean white filter has turned a smudgy gray and has dog hair and dust balls coating it. And I'm a pretty clean housekeeper! Yep, it's working! I can't imagine how much dustier my home would be without it. And the air is fresher. The only complaint I've had is from my boyfriend who has hearing issues and the inaudible hum (to me) bothers his hearing aids. Oh well. We can't please everyone!

3M filtrete furnace filters are rated #1 for do it yourself air filtration. Now that they make an air filter that takes the 3M filtrete filter...I dont have to run the furnace fan to get clean air. This is the best filter available without buying big power hungry noisy HEPA units which still are not as good and are difficult to maintain. These are replacing all my Honeywell, Bionaire, holmes, and sharper image ionic breezes. The filters are so easy to change. Best filter available. No dust or dog hair in my house anymore. with three speed settings noise isnt a problem at all. I put this unit on my main floor, and the bedroom sized units in all other rooms.

Our area Target stores have been out of stock of this filter for months. No one else around here carries it. I am very disappointed.

The purififer itself is great. Getting filters to replace the old one is horrible, horrible, horrible. The only way to get them is to order and they cost a fortune. Would not have purchased this product if I had known that it was such a hassle to get the filters

Target and other stores NO LONGER CARRY FILTERS FOR THIS PRODUCT! I would seriously like to know why. I got into an argument with the manager at the target store near me because they would not tell me why. I purchased this two weeks ago and I can no longer buy filters for it ANYWHERE. No wonder they were selling it for 25% off. What a joke. This is an amazing product, but do not buy it unless you want to order filters online. I think 3m is discontinuing these or something weird is going on like a recall or something.
