I love the color! It only took a little over an hour to assemble by myself and I only needed a phillips screwdriver. It looks great in my living room! There are three removeable shelves. I did not buy to hold books just to showcase a few items. I used the bottom two shelves but didn't insert the top shelf so I could display a large plate. This just goes so nice with my other dark woods in my house. This piece doesn't look cheap and is at a very reasonable price. I did receive one damamaged shelf (the shipment took a beating through UPS by the looks of the outside of the box and the inside with the styrofoam in pieces by the time I received the item) which worked out great for me since I was going to omit on of the shelves from the bookcase. I believe I will contact the manufacturer anyway to get a replacement in case I need it in the future. We will see how well they respond as other reviews indicate the manufacturer is unwilling to work well with the consumers. ---- 1/23/09 I originally bought this in October and I am editing this review to update everyone on the manufacturers response to my damaged shelf.The manufacturer was contacted twice by phone (left messages) regarding the damage and no response. I then attempted to contact them by email, this method worked and my replacement part was mailed to me with a quick turn around time.I liked this 5-shelf so much I went to Target and purchase two additonal (3 shelf) bookcases.

I just purchased two of these bookshelves. When they arrived, both shelves were CRACKED in half. They are completely unusable.

On top of that, I live in NYC and don't have a Target store, and Target will not work with me to do a Saturday pick up. Now I am stuck having to take a day off of work to return a product that they screwed up.

Target has completely let me down. If you are thinking about purchasing this and not near a store, it is not worth the trouble.

We were impressed with the sturdiness of this bookcase in the store. The first one we bought turned out to be SEVERELY cracked. We went back to Target and traded it for a new one. This one was cracked as well. Not scratched...CRACKED. We'd love a bookcase, but how many trips to Target do you want to make in a week-end? This really is a gamble on quality and we struck out twice.

I bought this cause I thought it would match another piece that I got from target (and liked). This is awful! The parts that are "wood like" are dented in many places and the veneer is chipped off of some of the shelfs and sides. It doesn't fit togehter well and the pressed board shows through. My husband put it together while I was gone. I am going to try to return it even though it is assembled and I got it on sale.

I have searched for bookcases from [many stores] to every place in the book, and I thought this model was the best lking. Actually I liked it so much I'm getting another one, however I would suggest to wait till it goes [on sale] plus the $20.00 gift card with purchase. None of my parts were broken or damage,and it was very simple to put together. Finally I have a place for books I have had in boxes for years.

We bought 2 of these bookcases. The first one I put together without too much of a fuss. The top right side split when I attached piece #6 (or maybe #9?), but I'm not about to disassemble the whole thing to return it.

The 2nd bookcase was almost impossible to put together. The cam locks were different from the first bookcase, and neither my husband nor I could tighten them correctly by hand. Everything fell apart when we'd go to add the next piece, so we finally used a power drill to tighten the locks. The cam locks were VERY cheap and several were stripped after trying over and over to tighten them properly. (Thankfully extras were included.)

Now that both bookcases are put together, I can see past the split piece and am happy with how they look. I just wish that they had come with better cam locks!

I thought this bookcase looked great on the website. However, there were several broken pieces in the box I received. The long side panels seemed flimsy and they were cracked in several places. THe color was nice and the target people were helpful when i called to have it returned.

I found this collection online and bought the whole set of 3 in-store. Easy to put together, good quality for the price. Better than most furniture at this price.

we love these bookcases, we got all 3 sizes and have them lined up against our back wall behind our couch, they are great way to decorate, and store books, dvds, and whatever, I don't know why so many people say it's junk they are good quality and look more expensive then they are. Many compliments from guest as well
