Nice ambient light

We ordered two of these about two months ago for use as bedside table lamps. They work well in our Asian/Indian inspired room, and provide very nice light. What is not immediately obvious online is that the lamp base has a bulb in it, and illuminates independently of the bulbs under the shade. This is great ambient light. I am an avid before-bed reader, and I use only one of the two bulbs under the shade to read by; it is plenty bright, but probably only if you are laying down. Sitting up and reading could be a bit of a problem, depending on your eyes. The shade really mutes the light.
My only major concern is that my bedside lamp heats up quite a bit, and gets rather hot. However, my husband's does not. My guess is that my lamp shipped with a larger sized bulb in the base, which may need to be changed out. Minorly, the lamp has a very round, low profile, which means it kind of takes up alot of room on my bedside table, which is a standard size. I personally don't mind, as it keeps me from cluttering the table, but could pose a problem on smaller night tables.

I bought this lamp about 6 months ago for my study and I have never been more pleased with something I've purchased on-line. It is beautiful and creates a wonderfully serene ambiance with just the base bulb turned on. The shade does somewhat mute the amount of light the lamp emits so it would not suffice as the only light in the room. It has a wide, low profile that works well on a desk. As I said, it has a separate bulb that lights the base with the dragonfly silouettes and then two bulbs in the upper part of the lamp that work independently of the base light - cool.
