Description

This is Volume #3 of Arabic Rhythms, a collection of great arabic, lebanese and egyptian Rhythms used for Bellydancing. Percussionists, musicians, Composers, Teachers of Belly Dancing, and students of this refined and voluptuous dance, will find this collection of magical and stylized rhythms, a perfect companion for their artistic development.

Volume # 3 (Talata) Arabic Rhythms for the Advanced Dancer, has a collection of rhythms and arabic music that offer a savory and intense experience to the practitioners and listeners of this music. This CD was created to develop and increase the "vocabulary" of dancers.

From Karim Nagi: The music in this disc was chosen from the arabic tradition of the Muwashahaat. These are poems dating back to the Arab ruled Andalusia Spain (800s AD to 1400s). These poems had complex and intricate meters that accomodated the luscious delivery of the text. Musical compositions using them were created only until late 1800s, by great composers such as Omar AL-Batch (Syria) and Sayyed Darwish (Egypt).

The rhythms extracted from these Muwashahaat poems and songs provide an intense collection of material for the advanced musician or dancer.

The Essential percussive instrument of the Muwashahaat rhythms is the Riqq (fish skin tambourine with brass cymbals). However, the rhythms are enhanced and bolstered here by adding Arabic Tabla, Dhola, Segat, and Bass Drums.

For this reason, complex, energetic and creative choreographies can be developed. Also, the dancer can learn to interpret the Dum and Tak placement of each rhythm, to create new combinations and sequences beyond the conventional norm. This will help carry the art of Raqs Sharqi to a higher level of Artistic expression. - Karim Nagi
