This is an AWESOME VACUUM!!!

I have read the other reviews on this vacuum cleaner and just had to comment! I have had this vacuum for over 2 years and it works just as good as when we opened the box. We have a Shar-Pei/Golden Retriever mix and he sheds! We also have 3 kiddos and I am obsessive about cleanliness. (The dog was not my idea!) We use it about 3 times per week and no matter how often I vacuum, I will not pick up every single hair.
Most people that complain that it doesn't pick up or the suction isn't good. I thought that at first but after actually reading the manual. There are 3 filters on this vacuum. The Hepa filter, the canister and a filter below the canister. I just simply take 2 minutes after vacuuming to dump these out and it is ready to go for the next time.
I have only replaced the belt once (a less price for a pack of two), and the Hepa filter once (cheaper price). I think that it is funny that the majority of the complaints on this vacuum I experienced, but I also didn't want to throw away $150. I went to bissell.com and they have a whole trouble shooting section with videos. I narrowed it down to the belt and WOW worked like it was brand new.
To all those with the 1-star reviews...read your manual before throwing it away! It is a great vacuum, we use it all the time!! Love it!

If you want to change a belt every 2 uses, go right ahead. The bar also froze with the 4th belt breaking. I just purchased this in July. I will give it it's due, plenty animal hair does get in the bucket. If the above is broke, you can't fix it. I don't recommend this product.

I got this vacuum about a year ago for my 1 small cat that sheds moderately. Worked great for the first 6-8 months. Then, it started to smell like burning rubber and now doesn't pick up ANYTHING! :( I spend my time vacuuming with this hunk of junk and then walking around my house picking up all the clumps of hair it leaves behind. I have cleaned it multiple times and can see that the belt is fine so there is no reason for it not to work right. Now I wonder if I should try to have it repaired or just cut my loses and buy a Dyson...

I absolutely love this vacuum!! I really wanted the Dyson Animal, but my husband didn't want it near as bad as I did, so when he found this and did some research we decided on this and if it didn't work too well we had not spent a whole lot. Boy am I glad I bought this, it has everything I wanted, the hose long enough to do all the stairs, the turbo brush for them, it's cyclonic, and has like 3 filters, and the air smells good after not like rotten dog as I had with previous vacuums. I vacuum on a daily basis with 2 kids and 2 dogs and it fills the canister everyday and i only use it in the living room , since everything else is tiled on this level. I never realized how much dirt and hair accumulated on a daily basis in the carpet, yuck. I can't imagine the Dyson sucking up anymore than this thing does. I used to vacuum and lay on the floor and still have a thick layer of hair on the carpet, now i have to get on my hands and knees and search for a single hair here and there! Fabulous vacuum, I think I am going to go buy another one for the 2nd level of the house!!!

I bought this vac over a year ago because I own a constant shedding Lab--need I say more. I vacuum every other day.
Pros--The suction is great. The rubber brushes are great-they do pick up the hair on furniture.
Cons--I think that there should be an extended bare floor attachment rather than using the vac itself to damage my floors. The hose is too short as well. When I am working with the attachments, the vacuum will cough up dirt/hair and leave a trail. The dirt cup is small and does does fill up fast--I have to empty per room--and it is a mess. The plastic upright position release handle is broken already--why would you make something that you use so frequently with flimsy plastic?
There is definately room for improvement with this vacuum.

We have 2 indoor cats and a white German Shepherd that sheds A LOT. This is the best vacuum I have used to clean up after the never-ending pet hair. We have faux suede couches that our cats lie on and the vacuum continuously sucks up all the hair that they leave behind. Our living room is small, but I am amazed how full the vacuum bin is after going over the carpet. This vacuum is amazing, it does what it promises. I would recommend it to anyone with pets.

Terrible Vacuum DO NOT BUY

I bought this vacuum in hopes of it erasing pet hair from my home. Everytime I use it it clogs from pet hair. I only have one dog (german shepherd). I called Bissell and they told me this was normal that the vacuum will clog from pet hair because of the spinning brush at the bottom that I should use the hose to vacuum my house. I am completly unsatisfied!!!

After research and debate to include reading Consumer Report Reviews, I decided to purchase this vacuum even though it was not rated in CR. I based my decision on the fact that I really wanted a machine that would help with pet hair and offered great attachments to use in vacuuming carpeted stairs. I made this decision based on many of the reviews listed here. While I was pleased with the suction and performance on my carpeted floors, I was very disappointed on the use of attachments. There was practically no suction and the attachment with the brush would not consistently spin. Additionally the stretch hose would work loose from the hard plastic connection practically every time I used the machine in spite of my efforts to make sure the connection was tight. The bagless system is messy. I loved the amount of dog hair the machine picked up, but the lack of good suction in using the tools plus the mess it makes when emptying the collection cup makes this a less than desirable vacuum. I am taking it back to the store.

Don't bother with this vacuum

I have owned this vacuum for just over a year and I have hated it almost from day one. It had to be serviced at just over a month old because it started to smell bad and the belt wore out. It still smells like it's burning whenever I use it and today it began spitting out pieces of burned black plastic while I was vacuuming. I have cleaned/changed the filters and checked the belt, but still can't find the source of the problems. I don't abuse it - just normal household cleaning once or twice a week. Hair and dust gets stuck up in the cyclone area, which makes a mess on my floor every time I have to empty the canister. Needless to say, I will definitely be purchasing a new vacuum.

Just as you are doing now, I went online to read reviews before I forked out $150 or more on a vacuum. I read other reviews about how it leaves "racing stripes", or is too heavy,, or didn't do as promised, but I have to tell you...I LOVE IT!! I am not concerned about racing stripes, or the weight (Im a 35 year old guy with a muscle or two). I just want CLEAN CARPETS free of dog hair. I have only had it a day so far, so I can't speak to it's reliability like other reviewers, but if it lastss a year I wouldn't mind forking out another $150 again. I think it is totally worth it. This replaced a bag type Hoover, and I had no idea how poorly it worked until I used this on the carpet for a solid hour and had to dump the container about SIX TIMES!! I thought my carpets were clean! Apparently all the dog hair got pushed down into the carpets and the "Pet Hair Eraser" just keeps lifting it out.
I am going to reccomed it to all my friends with pets.
