Better than Mr. Coffee

Reviewer:  Mark Rivers  (Connecticut, USA)  See all my reviews

i first purchased the Mr. Coffee 8-12 cups coffee maker which is on the same price range..

i owned a lot of home/small office type of coffee makers before so i know the drill..
reading the manual, cleaning the Carafer etc.
before brewing anything, you need to make sure that all the sediments/ artifacts left during production are removed by running a test brew.. just water and no coffee grounds at all..
i was very disappointed with Mr. Coffee, the major reason is that the coffee is not hot enough even after leaving it 5-15 minutes on the hot plate after brewing.. i know that every person a a different definition of hot and how they want it in their coffee..
let's just say that my reference of hotness is the same with the Mcdonald's or Dunkin Donuts definition of HOT!
i returned it the next day and exchanged it for the Black and Decker!
i'm impressed with the result, for the price i have to say this is value for your money..
No need to drop a 100 or more for a simple, programmable, auto shut off after 2 hours feature coffee maker..
i Highly recommend this!

5 YEARS NO PROBLEMS

Reviewer:  Mandy Moe  See all my reviews

I received this as a wedding gift in May 2003 and have had no problems. This is a great coffee maker and I will probably buy the same one IF mine ever stops working. I don't see that happening any time soon.

I read other reviews about this coffee maker not working after 8 or 9 months and I think it was just a result of user error.

LOVED IT -- 8 months later STOPPED WORKING

Reviewer:  Busy Mom of 4  See all my reviews

I purchased this because it was the right size for a tight space. Worked like a charm and made great coffee, then I tried to use it today and it would not work at all. Very disappointed. I had a Mr. Coffee that I received as a wedding gift that worked for 17 years!!! And this coffee maker died after 8 months of less than daily use?!

Proper brewing

I have bought several of these at the recommendation of friends in the coffee industry. I use them to prepare coffee for lectures and tasting events. (I teach the geography of coffee and usually provide samples for audiences.)

It is the only way I know to make coffee that is close to the quality of French press, but in larger volume. The key is that this brewer gets the water much hotter than most, fully extracting the coffee.

So far, I have not experienced the failures that other reviewers have. I do not use mine daily, but when I do use them, I often make 5 or more pots in rapid succession.

9 Months - and it Died . . ?

Reviewer:  R. Stevenson  See all my reviews

Worked great for 9 months. Love the auto-turn off after 2 hours. Got it at a great price.

But after 9 months the heating element doesn't work . . . I would think it should last longer than 9 months. Now I am off looking for a New Coffee Machine.

Quit working after 9 months. Hot plate portion not adjustable and not hot enough. Poor choice.

This thing worked great until it decided to just quit working six months after I received it as a gift. Fabulous.

Terrific Product!

Reviewer:  Kaffee lover "Jaimee"  (Marion,MA USA)  See all my reviews

I have owned my coffee maker for almost 7 years. I am purchasing a second one to keep in my camper. I love having a wide water filling area. The wide pour spout is a great feature. I have had the warming plate finish wear off but it still keeps the coffee at the perfect temperature. Recently the buttons to adjust the clock stopped working. Not bad after 7 years, although I am no longer able to set the timer for my morning brew. I still LOVE this coffee maker and would recommend it to my friends.

Simple Little Machine

Reviewer:  KittenAntenna "KA"  (Leesburg, VA USA)  See all my reviews

I bought this coffee maker because "America's Test Kitchen" gave it high reviews and it was in my low price range. I'm glad I listened to ATK and not other Target Reviews.

As I looked up all the different coffee makers on this target.com, so many of them had terrible ratings and I kept hearing the same complaints - makes a terrible cup of coffee and if you don't put the carafe in all the way it leaks. These are problems caused by human error, not the machine.

I've had this machine for two months now and I've never had it leak because I am careful to place the carafe it the correct position before brewing. It took my husband and I about three tries to figure out the right amount of coffee for our liking. That would have happened with any machine.

The auto-program feature, the reason I upgraded from my trusty 15 year old Mr. Coffee, is very easy to set and hasn't let me down. The automatic shut-off goes off in just the right amount of time so the bottom few cups in the pot never burn.

We did have one instance where the coffee filter bin overflowed into the water reservoir. It was so much easier to clean than when that happened to my old Mr. Coffee.

This coffee maker is simple and it does what it is supposed to. I think I got a great little machine at a great price.
