Simple Little Machine

I bought this coffee maker because "America's Test Kitchen" gave it high reviews and it was in my low price range. I'm glad I listened to ATK and not other Target Reviews.
As I looked up all the different coffee makers on this target.com, so many of them had terrible ratings and I kept hearing the same complaints - makes a terrible cup of coffee and if you don't put the carafe in all the way it leaks. These are problems caused by human error, not the machine.
I've had this machine for two months now and I've never had it leak because I am careful to place the carafe it the correct position before brewing. It took my husband and I about three tries to figure out the right amount of coffee for our liking. That would have happened with any machine.
The auto-program feature, the reason I upgraded from my trusty 15 year old Mr. Coffee, is very easy to set and hasn't let me down. The automatic shut-off goes off in just the right amount of time so the bottom few cups in the pot never burn.
We did have one instance where the coffee filter bin overflowed into the water reservoir. It was so much easier to clean than when that happened to my old Mr. Coffee.
This coffee maker is simple and it does what it is supposed to. I think I got a great little machine at a great price.

This pot is excellent! I have used mine daily for over 5 years---longer than any coffee maker I have had in the past, including a $100 Bunn. When this one goes I intend to buy another. I am surprised at the negative reviews. I have not had any of the aforementioned issues. Maybe Black and Decker changed something in the design in the last 5 years? it looks exactly the same.

Best coffee maker I have found

This Black & Decker coffee maker is the best I have found, so far in all the years I have been drinking coffee. In our household we make anywhere from 1 - 3 pots per day and have never had a problem. The carafe pours wonderfully without any leaks or drips, which is why I purchased it in the first place. Our previous pot would leak down the front while pouring, where this carafe does not.
I broke the carage about 6 months ago. I went to Black & Decker on line, ordered a new carafe, which arrived within the week. I was very satisfied with how easy it is to order extra's for this coffee maker.
I am in the process of purchasing another coffee maker for a friend who is getting married because I believe in this product so much. It is exceptional quality and I have not found any defects in the workmanship.

I have experienced two problems with this coffee maker. First is the warmer surface. The coating wore off very quickly. The second is the coffee pot / carafe. The handle and the spout are great. The glass is very thin and not Corning Ware glass. I broke my glass carafe just after a little tap to the inside of my sink. Try getting a replacement!

Works fine except that coffee is not hot enough. I have resorted to microwaving my cup for 40 seconds.

I read many of the reviews for this coffee pot and was sad to see that people didn't have as much luck as we did. We got this as a wedding gift 8 years ago and never had a problem until last night. It finally went out. I think we only cleaned it twice in that eight years with running vinegar through it. I drink coffee every morning and every evening so it was used very often. I am looking for another one and I was glad to see they still make this coffee pot...I am purchasing again!

I have bought several of these at the recommendation of friends in the coffee industry. I use them to prepare coffee for lectures and tasting events. (I teach the geography of coffee and usually provide samples for audiences.)
It is the only way I know to make coffee that is close to the quality of French press, but in larger volume. The key is that this brewer gets the water much hotter than most, fully extracting the coffee.
So far, I have not experienced the failures that other reviewers have. I do not use mine daily, but when I do use them, I often make 5 or more pots in rapid succession.
