Great Can Opener

I bought this new under the cabinet can opener to replace the old Black & Decker one that I have. Mine is really old as it was my grandmother's and looks very dated. This new one is great, it works very well opening cans and has a great modern design. The best part about it is the cover, when it is closed you can't even tell that it is a can opener. And just a soft push of the door, the lid opens and voila there is your can opener.
My husband was even happy because it was very easy to install.
I would highly recommend this new model to replace your old one and to everyone who would like to just free up their counter space.

I had looked forward to replacing my old outdated,spacemaker can opener that I have had for over 15 years, with a newer model. This can opener was on the top of my Christmas list and we installed it right away. It was disappointing from the start. My husband who is a great handiman, had difficulty installing it. I had trouble attaching a can to it and was shocked at the sluggish and inefficient way it operated on the first can I attempted to open. The cutter assembly looks like a box cutter blade and gives me little confidence it will hold up for any length of time or open a large can. I found the bag cutter to be inefficient as well. After the first day's use, I am already frustrated with trying to keep the cover closed.
I am amazed that a company with the good reputation of Black and Decker, would put something out to the consumer with such poor design and quality.
Sadly, we dismounted this can opener and replaced it with our old black and decker spacemaker can opener. This new design can opener is just a piece of junk.

What happened to Black & Decker?

I was looking forward to purchasing my own Black & Decker spacemaker Can Opener when my off brand under the counter can opener died. The off brand one had been a wedding gift over 11 yrs ago. They don't make them anymore so I asked my Mom what brand hers is. Mom moved into my Grandmother's house when she passed away. Grandma had her Black & Decker for over 20 years, and it is still working great. I purchased this new Black & Decker spacemaker can opener, and I am extremely disappointed.
It is slow. It is supposed to be an automatic can opener, but you have to stand right beside it and hold it till it's done. The cover/lid/shield is supposed to protect it when it's not in use. It's a pain because it does not stay closed and keeps flopping open.
I am so disappointed! Now, I want another under-the-counter can opener, but I don't think anyone else makes them. I am sure a company could make one that is durable and reliable. I was hoping it would be Black & Decker.

The opener didn't have the needed hardware to fit the underside lip of my grandmother's cabinet. The flip open top won't fit the soup cans she needed to open, so I had to remove it. On the plus side, it was a lot quieter then the 30 year old unit I was replacing.
