I am so happy with my new SpaceMaker Toaster oven. I have always owned a SpaceMaker toaster oven and when mine broke after owning it for the past 10 years I was very disappointed to find out that Black & Decker did not make it anymore. Then just last week I found that Black & Decker has come out with a new under the cabinet toaster oven. I was so happy that I purchased one right away. And I have to say that this new oven works much better than previous ones. At first I had a problem with the mounting and was getting very frustrated, but I was not going to give up. So I called the “800” number that I found in the user manual and they explained to me that I needed to first hook the hooks that are in the back of the oven and then pull forward on the oven on the feet and bring up to latch the front hooks in place. And low and behold that did the trick, the unit was up in a matter of minutes.
I am so thankful to Black & Decker for bringing this appliance back to life. It cooks great and now I have room on my counter top again.

I used to love my B&D toaster oven but I wanted a replacement. I finally found it. The toaster oven was so easy to install. In just minutes I installed it without the help of husband (he was shocked). I use it at least once a day. In the morning my toasts come out perfect. I would recommend this product to anyone who is interested in saving counter space and wants and easy to use toaster oven.

No Problems -- Works Well

After reading some of the negative reviews, I was nervous about buying this toaster-oven. No need, it was fairly easy to install and it works well.
Mounting hints:
I found it easier to attach the mounting template to the upper surface of the cabinet shelf (the instructions say to tape it to the bottom of the shelf) -- once I had it positioned I used 4 push-pins to mark where to drill. I removed the template and drilled pilot holes using a small drill-bit; then, using paperclips (straightened to an "L" shape), I hung the mounting bracket to verify the holes were properly aligned. Once I confirmed the alignment I drilled the 1/4 inch mounting holes.
My cabinet shelves are 5/8 inch thick (I assume this is standard) -- the medium-length screws are barely long enough, but with effort they do work. I actually used the longer screws first, then replaced them, 1-by-1 with the medium-length screws.
Because the oven is deeper than my old one, it blocks an electrical outlet -- if I could do it over, I would have mounted it a little more to the right.

Picked up this toaster today as I was very happy to see the spacemaker model again. Toaster works great so far, but the mounting bracket is a piece of junk. Had no problems mounting it to my cabinet but trying to get the toaster to stay on the bracket is a nightmare!!!! Not sure why B&D changed from the old style to this junk. Anyway, will be calling Black & Decker to let them know my disappointment with the bracket.

Finally the spacemaker toasteroven is back! Ths new model looks great and truly saves space. I found it fairly simple to install and it does everything I want it to do! It is easy to clean with the crumbtray in the bottom and looks great in my kitchen. I don't need to use the big oven that uses a lot or electricity anymore and I can have my counter space back! What a great idea... I recommend it!

Our old B&D SpaceMaker died after 15 years and about 5 mini-fires. It was giving off an electrical smell, so my wife and I decided it was time to retire it. :-(
I went internet shopping and read all the horror stories about installing and operating the new ones. Don't believe them all. I'm an average handyman and did it just fine.
The template is fine and so are the screws and spacers. (I DID have to tape the spacers together.) I used the template INSIDE the cabinet, NOT underneath. It's the same thing, but so much easier. Make sure you are centered with the cabinet and drill your holes straight down. You might have to cut the template some to allow it to fit your cabinet. Only use spacers with the rear screws, so the toaster oven will be level. Be careful when you first attach the oven and don't bend the front hooks like I did. Attach the rear of the toaster oven first, then hook the front. Plug it in and you're done!!!
This toaster oven is very hot and toasts quickly. Read the manual as it repeats this about five times.
I think the biggest issue with all the complaints is that we were so used to the old way of toasting with these spacemakers that we have to adjust to a new way.
We truly are enjoying the larger size and increased power.
Enjoy!!!!

New B & D Toaster Oven - NOT HAPPY

We have owned a Black & Decker Spacemaker for over 10 years now and have been quite happy with it. The timer went out, thus the need for a new one. We were thrilled to find the new one, but incredibly disappointed with it from the first piece of toast. The controls for toasting bread are archaic to say the least. To have to turn a timer on and back down just to toast a piece of bread is ridiculous. The rack is no longer attached to the door meaning you either have to reach your hand into a very hot toaster to retrieve the toast or use an implement or pot holder to pull the rack out. The new one doesn't come with the tray as the old one did either. It gets WAY TOO HOT and has a relay to cut it out - then back on - just to make toast! The mounting hood has no vents to vent the very high heat now either. And everyone is right about installation - the template is completely wrong, no measurement indicators on dotted lines on the template, holes in template do not line up correctly and screws are too short. I really want a cabinet-mount toaster oven so I guess I'm stuck with this one for now. Black and Decker needs some competition in this arena, please!

Don't buy the B&D Under the Counter Toaster Oven 2009

I miss my original B&D "under the counter" oven. It appears I'm lucky it didn't burn my house down.
I replaced it recently (Feb 2009) with the new B&D model. Installing it - what a joke!! The longest screws provided are too short and good luck trying to find a longer one with the same threads.
I'm returning this nightmare! I will not be buying Black and Decker products any more...and I will have to consider shopping at a store that sells this kind of crap!

Does it work? Yup. Does it have several issues? Yup.
- BE SURE TO READ ALL DIRECTIONS FIRST. If you have "overhang lip" cabinets, your install instructions are NOT the same as the very first set of install instructions. Look for them a few pages later!
- The spacers required for "overhang lip" cabinets are ridiculously hard to hold onto the screws while trying to install the bracket. If you are replacing the previous version of the Spacesaver toaster, save THOSE spacers -- they can thread onto the new unit's screws and don't fall off. Really now, B&D, what were you thinking?
- The new design uses a totally different "holder bracket". That is plain stupid. You should be able to use the same bracket instead of going through the pain-in-the-neck process of installing a new one.
- The new bracket doesn't use the same hole spacing as the old one! Have fun drilling four more holes in your cabinets.... DUH!
- It is WAY more difficult to remove the toaster from the new holder bracket to clean it. I'm worried repeated cleanings will break the clips that hold the toaster. Then you're in for some trouble.
- It only comes with a wire rack -- a "solid" tray to catch melting cheese is NOT INCLUDED! :-( Be sure and save your old unit's tray (glad we did)!
- Having three dials instead of two and an "on switch" is REALLY DUMB. You have to remember what "darkness setting" you want, because that is now controlled by a timer -- you can't just leave the setting how you like it. This is hard to explain via text, but it's a bummer.
- There is only one upper element and one lower element. I do not yet know if this will be a problem in terms of use -- we just made one piece of toast that seemed OK -- but I thought I'd mention it because the old unit that just died had what, two up and two down? I forget.
I'm sure I'll have more to gripe about, but that's it for now. I'd have to say this design is very not ready for prime time.
I am sorry to have so many bad things to say as I worry that poor sales will cause Spacesaver toaster ovens to be discontinued, but the fault lies with the B&D and not the marketplace.

I have owned B&D under counter toaster ovens for years and loved them. However, this new one positively scares me. It doesn't heat evenly, it's entirely too hot and the tray doesn't pull out to retrieve the food. Not only have I burned myself, last night the food in my toaster oven caught fire. It burned the wood above the toaster oven and melted the front of my microwave. Stay away from this toaster oven.
