This is magnificant. It works fabulously. I cannot believe my eyes when I saw my hair go from curly.. to STRAIGHT as a RULER. I am amazed at this.. I cannot believe this... I love this straightener. I use it often. However, I collect straighteners, so I have many, maybe about, 30 straighteners. I have others and like about 20 other straighteners more than this one.

the thing exploded in my hand. I was just minding my business straightening my hair and I heard loud pops and next thing you know sparks traveled from the outlet up the cord to the iron (which I thankfully dropped right before it had a mini explosion where the cord connects to the iron). Needless to say, I won't be purchasing one of these again. I love the pink Iron and it worked well, but not worth my safety or the ruined tile in my bathroom from the fireworks show.

I have natural African American hair and this flat iron gets my 4a type hair incredibly straight. I have found that the straighter I blow dry my hair the straighter it is when I flat iron it, especially if I use Paul Mitchell's straitening serum when blow drying. For best results use smaller hair sections for straighter hair. So far I haven't had any mechanical issues with the iron and I am praying that I don't encounter any.

I have read the reviews that other people have wrote about this straightener, and I only have one thing to say and that is that they must not be handling this product in the proper way. First off, a CHI is a very expensive, renowned straightener and it should be handled with the utmost care. You should not wrap the cord around the straightener, that's asking for the wire to break. I have had this straightener for almost a year and I have no complaints, I love it! It makes my hair silky smooth and it cuts down on the damage that most other straighteners create. I would never buy another straightener, and neither would over half of my friends that have one. Basically, this is a good investment, if you are going to take care of the product, if you are going to be careless, you are better off buying a cheap one.

I read the reviews and knew that these straightners are famous for power problems but thought I would be covered under the 1 year warrenty. My daughter used the striaghtner for 8 months before the power went out. The manufacture Farouk Systems says Target.com is not an authorized dealer therefore they will not honor the 1 year warrenty. Target.com says you have 90 days for a return but they do not warrenty any of the appliance products they sell. SO...be warned these straightners go out quickly and you will not get warrenty coverage.

I researched this product before I bought it and did read about the electrical problems but didn't think it would happen to me. I never treated my flat iron badly, it never left my bathroom. I bought this in June of 2009 and today is October of 2009. Anyway, this morning I turned it on and started smelling a burning smell. After I finished using it, I tried to turn it off and the switch wouldn't work. When I tried to force it, I heard sparking noices like it was shorting out and going to be on fire. The plastic handle was very warm and I immediately unplugged it. Luckily I bought it at a store that doesn't have a time limit to return it so it went back today. I am going back to a cheaper, more reliable product. Do not buy a Chi. It's a lot of money for a product that doesn't last. It's also made in a foreign country and the instructions have grammatical issues all over b/c the person who wrote the instructions didn't speak English.

I purchased my pink Chi my Sophomore year in college which was in 2004. It is still going strong. I am not the most organized person, but twisted cords irritate me. My Chi still looks brand new, and it does not have the velcro wrap like they do now. I put a pony-tail holder on it so I can fold the cord anytime I put it away. I use this iron every day, and my stylist always comments on how healthy my hair looks. I will say I blowdry my hair with the pink Chi blowdryer which leaves my hair even more smooth.

This is an awesome flat iron better than any other I have used heats up quickly and both plates are hot and it glides through your hair without too many snags unlike other flat irons. I agree with Florida Gal if you take better care of your flat iron by not wrapping the cord around your flat iron, it will last. Any cord of any quality will short out if you treat it like that. And if the little mini explosion happens and it started at the outlet like one user stated it was not the flat iron, but more like a user or electrical issue other than the flat iron.

Every bad review that's describing how the flat iron shorts out or turns off is caused by the owner, not the product. The reason this happens ladies is your wrapping and or tangling the cord around your iron! Over a year period your cord is going to wear no matter what kind of flat iron you buy!! If you take better care of your chi it will definitely take care of you!! Have had mine for 2 1/2 years! Love it.
