CSX (MBI Railroad Color History)
Details
Description
This beautifully illustrated history celebrates CSXs 25 years on the American railroad scene. Formed in 1980 as a holding company for the Chessie and Seaboard Systems and several other eastern railroads, CSX then merged them all into CSX Transportation in 1986. That move made CSX one of the nations dominant merger roads.
This book tells how the company swallowed several legendary regional lines and merger roads and explains the 1999 agreement by which CSX and Norfolk Southern purchased and effectively split the operations of their northern rival, Conrail. The marvelous color photography shows CSX diesel-electric powered freight operations in the East and Midwest as well as CSX hardware, facilities, and operations on more than 20,000 miles of track across the eastern United States, from 1980 to today.
