I've been looking for chairs like these for a few years and couldn't bring myself to spend $300+ each for the steel version. The chairs are a beautiful mix of retro and contemporary design. They are very comfortable and fully assembled. The finish is not overly shiny- more of a brushed nickel type of coloring (but a little lighter than my SS appliances and the picture). The slats fit up into the top frame and are welded to the bottom of the back. This makes for a very sturdy chair, but there is a tiny "bead" on the back of each slat (in case that would bother someone). They clean easily, but they also can get pitted if, for example, your toddler attacks them with a fork! They are also tippy if said toddler runs into them with a large Tonka, but not so tippy that he can't pull himself up into them. The only other comment is that they can be a bit chilly when first sitting down. None of these are problematic to us, but will hopefully help you decide.

These chairs are a shameless made-in-China knockoff of the WWII vintage Navy Chair - a rugged all-aluminum design classic. The U.S. Navy designed the chair for use on submarines, and bought many thousands as standard issue office chairs in subsequent years. Emeco (made in USA) hand crafts the original model in brushed aluminum and sells to upscale design shops at $348 each. The Target version is also aluminum but with a lacquered finish (which could scratch or dull over time). To the untrained eye, the small fit & finish differences would not be noticeable. Like the original, the Target chair is sturdy & durable. While the original retains a certain cachet, you must weigh the relative value for yourself.

We bought these chairs for our cabin. I like the fact that we can use them inside and outside on the patio. The are very light weight and easy to move around. On the downside, they are a bit clangy and noisy on the floor and the seat is very compact...made for small butts. A chair pad is recommended as metal is cold to sit on.

The tilting mentioned in another review existed, but was easily fixed by using the foot levelers on the bottom of each leg. No tilting now! The chairs look great at over $225 less than the original.

We love these chairs. They fit in so well with our kitchen's decor and brought some swank back to the kitchen. We use them all every day, but I had to tape pads to the bottome of each of the four chairs' four legs, so they don't make so much noise when they are being moved or pulled and out from the table. One other minor issue is that they do remain cool to the touch, so we were thinking of buying pads for the chairs to keep our rears warm, especially in the morning when the house is super cold and you're still in pajamas.

I've been wanting the Navy chair look with my dining set but knew I couldn't justify spending the money on the real thing. This is a great affordable option! A little smaller than I thought they'd be, but work just fine.
