Great Product Fantastic Price! January 22, 2008 Reviewer:  Cook Book Nook (EAFB,South Dakota)  See all my reviews >

[a magazine] recently [rated] Tramontina to [an upscale brand name] and for the price was recommended by [the magazine] as a best value. It's over all cooking of various foods compared to [the upscale brand] was the same. Dollar for dollar Tramontina I've used my Tramontina 6½ quart cast iron dutch oven several times and LOVE it! It rates right up there with the expensive dutch ovens that are made in France but at a fantastic savings! Lets see...[compare the price]? You decide.

Great pan BETTER PRICE February 8, 2008 Reviewer:  Cookin' "Gary" (Indy)  See all my reviews >

I just finished using this brasinf pan for the first time for a chuck roast and it worked perfectly. Great heat transfer with a stqy cooler top knob handle. (still gets warm) The side handle are one piece molded into the cast iron pot, makes for a great oven pan and no worries about falling off.

Best buy, hands down! February 3, 2009 Reviewer:  LC (Bronx, NY United States)  See all my reviews >

This pot has been an invaluable addition to my kitchen! I've had it for more than a year and have used it almost every day since purchasing. As another reviewer said, the inside enamel does stain (especially if you're cooking something for a while--coq au vin was the worst offender), however the outside has not chipped at all in a year ++ of daily use, cleaning, and storage.

If you plan on using this in your stove, I highly recommend taking the top with you to a home improvement store and picking up a heat-safe handle/knob to replace the black one it comes with. While the black one is fine for daily use, it is only heat safe to about 400 degrees. If you can't find a knob you like, wrap the knob in several layers of foil to prevent any bubbling or melting in the oven.

This is the absolute best pot under $150-200 that you can buy, hands down. If you're looking for a heavy duty workhorse, look no further. No guilt about using it either--if you ever chip it, you aren't out brand-name prices! Don't hesitant; buy this today!

So useful! November 8, 2008 Reviewer:  Raven Avery Real Name (Seattle, Washington)  See all my reviews >

I've had this for a little more than a year, and use it 1-2 times per week, mostly for soups, stews, braises, and baking bread (try it with a no-knead recipe).

The white enamel interior is stained on the bottom, but in general this cleans very easily by hand. It's heavy, but not unbearable - I store it on a fairly high shelf with no problem, and have never had an issue moving it around while full. The lid fits tightly. Heat is distributed evenly.

The only thing I would change would e to make the handle cast-iron/enamel as well, so I could trust it in the oven at high heat.

Great for the price! October 11, 2008 Reviewer:  Joe In San Antonio (Helotes, TX)  See all my reviews >

I have had this item for over four years (I bought it the first time I saw it at Target). Using it on top of the stove, it has made stews, French onion soup, and braises. It cleans up well and I've given two as gifts.

I have yet to put it in the hot oven, so I cannot vouch for how well the knob on the lid will hold up. Target says it will hold up to 400 degrees. I am going to try it for NY Times no-knead bread tomorrow which requires a 450 oven.

Chefmate Cast Casserole October 19, 2008 Reviewer:  One Pot Cook (Connecticut, USA)  See all my reviews >

I've had the pot for two years. It is a great alternative to Le Crueset pots which cost much more. The inside white paint will stain over time. The exterior paint may be "chip resistant" but count on chips both to the lid and pot. Do not soak the pot overnight. It is cast iron and needs to be treated like a cast skillet to some degree. I use the pot often and do recommend it. It's a great red!

Chefmate Casserole Pot (Black) July 13, 2008 Reviewer:  TR "TR" (Seattle)  See all my reviews >

I bought a black Chefmate pot at target and after using it about three times I soaked it in water to clean and it turned rusty brown inside. I am afraid to use it anymore because it seems like the bottom of the pan is peeling off and I don't want it to get into the food. I would avoid this brand for this type of product.

I love my chefmate pot and pans October 22, 2008 Reviewer:  New MRS. "~LV" (Chicago, IL)  See all my reviews >

I got a few different chefmate pots and pans for my wedding and I love them. I want them all. I was really trying to get away from NON-stick pans, and was trying out stainless steel and cast iron. I couldnt be happier with these. You do have to know how to take care of cast iron, and you have to make sure you cure them often if you use them ALOT, but its so worth it.

Rusts! November 2, 2009 Reviewer:  beans "bkay" (Kansas City, KS)  See all my reviews >

I registered for this because I read the review in a magazine that it was a great dutch oven for the money. I have had it for 2 years and have used it 4 times, I washed in the sink. It has rusted and I'm afraid to used it. I read online that it may have lead exposed now because of the breakdown in enamel. I'm hoping to return to store or manufacturer.
