Do more research before purchasing this booster

On October 10, 2008 the Wall Street Journal published an article called "New Question on Booster Seats (by Jonathan Welsh)." This article said that this Cosco High-back booster seat was named one of the worst by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the University of Michigan Transportation Department. The article cited that the problem with it is that the booster situates the lap belt on the child's vunerable abdominal area--not good in a crash.

My son really hates this seat. I got it as a second seat for our second car. He has a higher end car seat for our main car and loves it with no complaints. This one there is not much padding on it which I was hoping would not be a problem and it definitely is. My son squirms and tries to get out of the seat with much vocal protest. My son's comfort is my own comfort in not having to have him squeal incessantly everywhere we go while trying to remove himself. I will be returning this one and it is as another reviewer stated on the not recommended list for booster seats
For me peace of mind is worth the extra money for another car seat.

I have bought this as a extra car seat about 5 months ago my son has no problems with it he is know 30 months old and has always been very big boy height and weight so he keeps growing out of most of his car seats, and for the price you can not go wrong when you need several car seats. I was concerned after reading the 1st review so I looked the report up on line and this is what I found “Combination and 3-in-1 seats are marketed as the last child seat parents need
to buy,” Lund says, “but most of these seats aren’t the best choice as boosters.
Parents need to be careful. These seats should be fine when their harnesses restrain
younger children, but many of these designs compromise the ability to
provide children with good belt fit as booster seats.”
We are still useing the 5 pt harness due to my sons age so I fell Better now. Hope this helps!

This was the 2nd car seat we purchased after more expensive one was smooshed by airline baggage. This is a great seat, my daughter was 2 1/2 when we purchased, is now 4 and still uses it, very proud of herself b.c. she can buckle (but NOT unbuckle) the top part. I haven't used it as a booster yet; we've done a lot of traveling in the last few years, this is her only seat, never complained, and its nice to have a lightweight seat to take to the airport at check-in.

Seems light, but I like that it has a harness for the price. Only warning, the bottom of the seat damaged our car's leather seat. Sharp bottom (other brands have a smooth bottom).

This is a great seat, I love it. The fabric is amazing to resist anything a kid might try to put on it. Its easy to clean as well, it wipes clean for the most part. My daughter loves this seat as well. My husband and I about to purchase a second one for our son! I have had no problems to date with this seat, we have owned it for almost 2 years.

If you read the review on the WSJ their review is based off of using this seat as a booster with your cars seat belt. Not using the 5pt harness. This is a good seat to use for a 2nd car or to travel.

We use this for our 15month old daughter. it is a good seat. Currently, I am looking for a second carseat for our other car that has more padding. That is the one thing I wish it had more of...padding. Not that our daughter complains...but i just think that would be nice for longer car rides. Just a note...above it was mentioned that this was the worst carseat by the IIHS...that is not exactly true. They didn't like the carseat when the lap belt was used...they didn't say anything bad about it when using the 5-point harness. it all depends on your child too...if the lap belt sits on him/her properly then it is fine...see video clip here.
but this carseat does convert to lap belt at 40lbs.

My son is 2 1/2 and weighs 35 lbs. We moved him into this one a while ago! HE loves it. It works just fine for long car rides, he can get himself into it with no problem and all I have to do is snap him in! We have 2 of these and will be purchasing another one for my 10 month old to have until he's at the correct age to move him. GREAT PRICE AND PRODUCT!!!!!!!
