This is my first humidifier. Needed one when my baby was born and used it on our room with him. You need to follow directions as too how high to put it (not on the floor) and how far from other items. But for us it worked great. We definitely felt the mist coming from it and it helped a ton. It was way cheaper than others too, and kind of cute!

I bought this humidifier a couple of months ago for my baby, who is prone to congestion. We live in a dry environment and I heard a humidifier might help. I've used it every bedtime and almost every naptime since with no problems, and her congestion is significantly better (but not absent...plenty good enough for her to stay asleep, though, which was the issue previously). I recommend checking that the vapor is rising up in the air, as per the instructions, otherwise you tend to get a damp spot on the floor below and not much humidity in the air, but you just turn the knob until you get the right level of humidity. It definitely helps to keep it elevated, but I just have it on a low bookshelf and it's fine. I haven't had any problems with leaking, although the base of the unit holds water that the removable portion sits in. When you remove the reservoir to refill it, as a result, it can drip a little, but I just hold a rag under it. It's pretty easy to keep clean if you're regular about it--we have pretty hard water and just using some vinegar gets off all the build up (I don't bother with using distilled water and have had no problems). Also, very quiet running. The water bubbles up periodically, but it's not very loud and the motor itself is very quiet. I think my daughter actually sleeps better with in on in part because of the white noise.

My penguin's eyes are crossed, which just adds to his charm. I haven't named him yet, but this will come with time.
This product is very quiet to use and shuts off on it's own.
The only downside I have observed about this product is that it could be easier to fill, possibly a reservoir on top, rather than removing the humidifier from it's base and flipping it over, which may create a little mess.
Otherwise, I love this product.

This awful product just ruined my daughters dressers by leaking a pool of water onto the dresser surface. We had enjoyed the product the dozen times we used it in the past few months, but this inexpensive humidifier just cost less.
I follow the manufacturers directions for use, cleaning, and storage to a t, so this is not user error this is product error.
Do yourself a favor and don't but a Crane product, spend some money and get something that will last and not cost you hundreds or thousands in the long run.

I bought this humidifier for my 4 month old's room because she was having a lot of congestion and successive colds. We tried using the adult humidifier I had used when I was pregnant, but it was too loud and kept waking her up. I bought the Crane penguin humidifier, and it really is whisper quiet. The second night, it kept shutting off, but I realized that you have to make sure the cap on the tank is turned so that the plunger lets the water flow freely into the base. Once you figure that out, it works just fine. Also, I haven't had a hint of mold or mildew in mine, but then I also dry out the exposed parts every morning... which is what you should do if you care about what your baby breathes.

My 2 year old was very sick w/croup so I went out to get this, I fell for the cuteness of it and the fact that it doesn't have a filter to mess with. However, out of the box it would not even power on. Since Target has such a lame return policy I will have to wait until tomorrow to exchange it (if you bring it back the same day they won't give you a full refund- even with a receipt) and hopefully don't have the same problem with a different brand.

The upper level of our town house is extremely dry. We've lived with it for years. Then, two weeks ago, we brought home two rescued kittens from the Humane Society. As they tried to adjust to their new environment, the dry air was having a negative effect on their eyes, nose, and lungs. The vet recommended a humidifier. We didn't want to spend a lot or get something too large or noisy. Though it's a penguin (least offensive of the "cute" designs), this little humidifier sure has done the job! The kittens no longer have runny eyes, stuffy noses, or dry coughs. We're using distilled water to avoid any of that white powdery stuff that typically accompanies the use of a humidifier. So, to add a little moisture to a small room, this is the way to go!

I had bought another brand of humidifier and it leaked everywhere. I found this one on sale and decided to give it a try. We love it! It works great and it looks really good in the kids rooms too!

This item workes great. I had had no problems with it except it has a weird smell after a while. The smell of the mist smell like stale liquid plastic. All i do is rinse out the head of the penguin, and that ususally takes care of it. It is kind of weird though. I cant sleep with that smell in my face.
Anyone else have this problem?

It looks like some people have had trouble with this product functioning properly so far. After wasting several months with the American Red Cross humidifier (which was completely ineffective), I bought this model for my 5 month old son's room. I thought I should report that I have had no problems with this humidifier and it has worked great so far (though I've only had it for over a week). I will be very happy if it keeps working.
