I have had several vacuums in my life, including a new fancy kirby. This dyson outdoes them all.

It picks up everything. I ran it after running my kirby and filled the canister.

I love the long extension tool and the easy to dump canister.

Plus it does not "smell" at all when you use it. Everything stays in and your air stays clean.

A wonderful vacuum. With 5 kids and a dog, I strongly recommend.

This vacuum was recommended to us by a relative when we had our new baby. With two shedding dogs, we had to do something about the hair on our floors and were desperate enough to spend the the bigger price. The first time we used it, threads from our new carpet were pulled and quickly unraveled into unsightly bald spots that cannot be repaired. This happened a few more times over the year. We have now had the vacuum for 2 years. It was great during the first year and we bragged it up to everyone we knew. After that, we started having suction problems and found out that the life time filter is a joke. We took it the vacuum repair store, where the tech told us that Dysons are cheaply made, over priced, and have a lot of repair issues. We regret spending the money on a vacuum that will only last us a few years and feel that we've been had! It went from being the best vacuum we've ever had to the worst! I recommend going to a vacuum dealer find a quality product.

Has great suction. Amazing how much more dirt was not being picked up by my old vacuum. This vacuum is the best.

We love our new vacuum. It really picks up the dog hair that our dog sheds. Our other vacuum would just leave the hair on the carpet, and we would have to pick it up by hand. We got it for 20 percent off, too, which is a fantastic value. You can really tell you have vacuumed after using the Dyson DC17 Animal vacuum.

The worst pile of junk ever bought in my life! Breaks CONSTANTLY and it's defective to no end. This price is a total rip off. It's a complete scam to charge this much for a freaking vacuum! At [..] this vacuum would still be a complete waste of money. You're better off with buying a reliable known name brand instead. This vacuum is difficult to use, difficult to clean and the customer support is piss poor in comparison to the complete and utter pile of S***! this thing is. Their customer service is just as good as their pile of junk they ripped me off for. I will NEVER buy a dyson ever again and I will let everyone know, write as many articles I can about it and get the word out on cyberspace that this company is terrible and so are their vacuums. Total waste of time and money!!!! Reporting them to better business bureau and making several complaints to anyone I can. This company scams you with overpriced trash heaps and then will not even honor the warranty or help you with their defective pile of S***!.

It was a difficult decision to spend this much on a vacuum but we have 3 cats so you can imagine the hair around the house. I got it home and my husband used it in the living room. We could not believe all the hair/dirt it picked up. The rugs look brand new! This is so worth the money. It was easy to set up and easy to use. I couldn't be happier with our decision.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS VACUUM!!! This is the biggest piece of junk I've ever purchased. My Dyson Animal just broke for the THIRD TIME in 2 years. The brush bar is clogged constantly, and instead of picking up dog hair, it also pulls out our carpet fibers and those get stuck on the brush bar. I have to CLEAN the brush bar pretty much every time I vacuum. It is heavy and clunky, extremely difficult to vacuum the stairs. The clutch (apparently these things have clutches according to Dyson) broke twice, and now it is making some god awful sound when I turn it on. I'm done with this thing. Oh, and the closest place to have it fixed is 45 minutes away from my house. I'm now going to go buy a new vacuum right now - different brand. This is a piece of crap. Wish I could give this zero stars. Can't believe I wasted so much money on such a crappy product.

I LOVE MY DYSON! This gem will make you wonder how you ever thought your carpets were clean before! The first day I had mine, I vacuumed the whole house, and had to dump the canister over and over and over! My previous vacuum had been a Hoover Wind Tunnel, and even when it did work (frequent belt replacement, beater bar tangles, self-propel died - hated it!), didn't pick up half as much as this Dyson. I will never own another brand again. The only down side to this is the awkwardness of trying to use the pull out hose with the various attachments. (It's great for the crevice tool and the little round brush for cobwebs, etc, but I can't imagine using this to vacuum whole rooms with hard floors with the extra attachment you can buy for that. When you pull on the hose, rather than dragging the vacuum with you like a canister, it'd pull the vacuum over. so, I've kept my Kenmore canister vacuum for that.) But, despite that, I still give this 5 stars because it's absolutely the best vacuum ever for carpets & heavy rugs. If you have pets, you will LOVE THIS VACUUM! I'm actually buying a new one, because I'm giving my current Dyson to my daughter.

I have always wanted a Dyson but kind of talked myself out of it every time because they are sooo expensive. I have twins who were born extremely premature so I decided it was time to give it a try. I have an area rug in my living room that gets vacuumed EVERY day. I vacuumed it with my old vacuum, going over it very slow and thoroughly. I then got out my new Dyson. I was seriously grossed out. I got almost a half cup of dust and dog hair out of the rug. I'm not even going to mention how much I got out of the rest of the rooms in my house!

It works great on hardwood floors. My entire house is hardwood floors except the bedrooms. The hose is great and easy to use!

One thing that Dyson doesn't mention in their instruction guide is that when you first turn the vacuum on, suction is coming from the hose. In order for it to come out the bottom with the spinny thing you have to tip it back. This took me like an hour to figure out! (sad I know) Once you figure that out its an awesome vacuum! I have had no problems with loss of suction or anything else!

I would buy this vacuum 10 times over. Actually it was a wedding gift, but if I had to buy one, I would. We grew up with Hoover Windtunnels which were fine considering the fact that we never had pets. My husband and I have a dog that sheds a decent amount, tracks some dirt in from the back yard and we have light beige carpet. I have never filled a canister full in just one room until I vacuumed with this! My house feels 10x cleaner and it saves me from having to shampoo the carpet as often becuase it sucks up everything. Worth the money...it's a great investment!
