I've only had this a couple of days so take that into consideration. Also, I have never used an espresso maker before so I have nothing to compare this one to. However, from my limited experience, the device works good. The coffee brewing side works as you should expect.
The espresso side is easy to get the hang of. I like that there is a removable drip tray for easy cleaning. I can fit a standard coffee cup under the espresso nozzles, and if I needed to use a larger cup, I could remove the grate that covers the drip tray and put in a larger cup. Unit does not seem to take too long to warm up, and the pump action ensures I get a good cup of espresso. I can usually have my latte/cappucinno finished from setup to cleanup in about 10 minutes.
The espresso coffee filter is a little cumbersome to get locked into place. Also, steaming/frothing milk takes a few minutes as the "green light" indicator turns off after a few seconds, and you have to wait 10 seconds or so for it to come back on before continuing to froth the milk.
----------------------
Edit - Updated review:
It has been about 9 months now since we've owned the unit. The frothing knob is broken and no longer works so no more steamed/frothed milk. However, I think my son may have turn it the wrong way, but I don't know for sure so I can't say that it was necessarily faulty design.
The unit did work well, and the coffee pot side is working fine. The decanter easily dribbles when pouring coffee so the design could have been better. Also, a separate water tank for the espresso and coffee side would be nice. My wife on a couple of occassions added a decanter of water when there was already some left over from making espresso. This led to the coffee pot overflowing. Just make sure you check the water level.
The one area I would like to see some improvement is the amount of time available when frothing/steaming milk. As I mentioned before, I would turn the knob to froth only to have the light go out a few seconds after starting and I'd have to wait for it to come back on. I would like to be able to have the steam last longer. Generally, it would take about 2 minutes to get the milk up to the proper temperature.
Overall, we used this heavily for the first few months. We didn't use it much during the summer, and then it broke. However, I really did like it, and I would probably buy it again.

Makes coffee same as others. Expresso is a little tricky getting the grounds cup attached though. The 'EMERSON" web page is gone and if you break the coffee carafe, good luck trying to find a replacement.Bummer! Price seems the same at all stores except [.......]where I got a new in box. I like it but no contact with Emerson just don't get it. Maybe a phone call would do the trick.

I received this as a present for christmas and am completely happy with it. I have used both the coffee part and the espresso part on a daily basis and haven't had a single problem with it. It's really easy to use and easy to figure out. It turns out drinks that are as good, if not better, than the ones you get at a coffee house. From turning it on to cleaning everything up, I can make 2 lattes in less than 10 minutes. I would recommend this to anyone!

This is a great solution for those of us who like their cafe american and espresso but don't have room for so many appliances. It also looks smart on the counter. I received the appliance for Christmas and am happy with it but for 2 reasons:
1. The burnt electric smell every time we make a cup of coffee
2. Inconvenient angle for the espresso coffee ground holder
I was able to contact Emerson at the 800 number in the booklet and they recommended we exchange for another unit at Target: this wasn't normal operation. As a note, there was an extension listed for replacement parts.
I will post again if we encounter any problems and need to return the unit.

We bought this machine and we were thrilled because it made great espresso and paid for itself within about a month because my husband and I weren't making our Starbucks runs anymore.
HOWEVER..... after that first month the pump went out on the frother, I took it back to Target and got a new one thinking it was a fluke. We have gone through THREE machines now and have had the same problem with all three. (It just went out on the third one about 15 minutes ago, and I thought I would see if anybody else has had this problem) I guess third times a charm isn't the case with this piece of junk, and now I don't know if Target will take it back because we don't have the box.

This is probably the best machine I have had with one BIG exception. I have had various coffee and espresso makers over the years. This is the first one with a pump system for the espresso. It makes the best! I have only made 2 pots of coffee and they turned out great also. However, that brings me to why I rated this so low. While cleaning the pot after the second time I used it I broke the pot. I have been waiting for over three months for a replacement with them always on backorder. So I still use the espresso half and longingly at the coffee maker side every morning wondering if I will ever get a new pot (BTW a new pot is about [..] if they ever send me one).

YOU WILL NEVER FIND ANOTHER ON PLANET EARTH. YOU WILL NEED TO BUY ANOTHER COMBO MAKER...IT'S NOT WORTH FOR A NEW CARAFE. BUY SOMETHING MORE COMMON INSTEAD. OR MAYBE EMERSON COULD MANUFACTURE A STAINLESS STEEL CARAFE FOR THIS UNIT. THAT WOULD BE ENGINEERING GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got this coffeemaker not even 90 days ago. Within the first month, the coffeemaker stopped making coffee. It starts off by pouring out a little coffee and then it just STOPS. It continues to make noise and steam and all of the normal process, but it won't actually MAKE the coffee. I've tried cleaning it, leaving it on for an hour.... nothing seems to work. To make the experience worse, Target refuses to give me store credit or an exchange or to return the defective product. Also, the price on this has gone down since I bought it. The only "help" Target has given me is to give me their same tired line of "I sympathize with you but I cannot do anything about it." Oh, and a 1-800 number. If I wanted to talk to someone on the phone, I would have called the manufacturer's number on the box. If it's within the first 90 days, I just don't see why Target won't exchange it. Overall, I'm very unhappy with the product. DEFINITELY not worth the $.... no, not even the REDUCED price of $.

Looks like we're going to return this one. Too bad, it was really cute and inexpensive for a pump combo. However, we've found that if you try to brew 2 espressos in sequence, the pressure builds up too much and overflows, creating a big mess. Also happens if you inadvertently leave the steamer button selected and activate the pump. Can't be limited to only one cup.

I love this machine for it's affordablity and function. The only thing I would change is a visible water level window and the length of the frothing stem; it should be longer for deeper pitchers.
Those that had the frother stop working; they need to be cleaned after each use and all frothers become plugged from time to time, I keep a stick pin handing for times it clogs.
I love the espresso it makes. I love that I can make two at once.
After going through, no fewer than 3 Mr. Coffees in the last year, I can tell with the proper care, this machine is my saving grace.
