we have 4 children, the youngest is 1 year old. we've wasted alot of money on various gates over the years, but this one is our favorite. so much so, we've bought 3 for our home (replacing the older ones) and is now the only brand/ model we use. our clever toddlers haven't been able to open one of them EVER! very sturdy (if you install it correctly - MEN - READ THE DIRECTIONS FIRST!!)

My brother bought this gate when my nephew was born in 1998. Right about the time he wanted to get rid of it because they no longer needed it, I did. Of the MANY gates we have used, this is the one we like the most.
I must point out several things we have run in to since it has been used in four different locations; they are the reasons I have not rated this five stars. One, if you have a stairs and want to attach it to two newel posts as we wanted at one house, it will sit too high, leaving a huge gap the baby can just crawl under, defeating the purpose. We added some wood to the bottom, making the gate longer on the bottom to avoid this.
Also, as some reviewers have mentioned, this does not work well if you have molding or wainscotting or have to drill it into the uneven part of a banister or newel post. We always solved these problems by using shims and they have never let us down.
As for the difficulty some have in opening it, I'm not sure why it is so difficult. I had to stop and think how it was done because it's been second nature with us for so long. With one hand you pinch the lever and pull it out of the latch, then slide the gate back with the same hand. Maybe this mechanism is really tight when you first get the product but don't know since my brother had it for a few years first.
And speaking of which, my brother just bought another one of these gates since they now have need for a baby gate again. I would recommend this above all other gates if it fits your house situation.

We looked around a lot to find the perfect baby gate and found this one. This gate is fantastic. Very easy to use one handed. It was a bit of a chanllenge to install because we have a very old house with baseboards. It looks nice and works well, also works to keep the pets out of places. This gate is taller than your normal perssure gate too. Great value.

I was extremely disappointed with this gate because after reading so many positive reviews I thought I found the perfect gate. If your house has molding or trim at the base of the wall on your staircase, this gate won't work. This is is annoying because it is a common feature for there to be molding.

We already own 3 of these gates, and have had them up for about a year now. All 3 are in high traffic areas- at the top of the stairs and on either entry to my family room. My son, now 20 months old, climbs and stands on bottom bar all of the time and there is no damage to them. These gates can even be stained or painted to match any decor!
I am ordering another today for the bottom of my stairs since my son can now climb them faster than we can grab him. Basically, I first tried this gate because of the great reviews and the price, and I am not disappointed!

We've had this gate installed at the top of our stairs for a few years now. Our son, now 5, sleep-walks so this gate provides a sense of security at night. We're going to buy the extra wide one for downstairs to keep the puppies out of the living room and dining room.

We've moved house many times over the years and I've had to install a few stair gates. Whoever invented pressure mounted gates needs their head examined.
This is a decent gate. It's about as simple as you're going to get - which is a good thing! And well priced.

We use this at the top of our deck and love it. Easy to use and very sturdy. The coloring matches our deck and people think it came with the deck. Our only wish is that we would have had it for the first two children.

This is the best gate I have ever owned.
We have a multi level home with many stairs so a sturdy, tight locking gate is important.
Opens and closes easily with one hand, but is difficult for small children to figure out how to open. Also I love that it is wood and not cheap plastic.
I swear by this gate!
