My 5 year old son begged me for weeks to get him Spike. Unfortunately, my son ended up disappointed. We thought Spike could pick up the boulder and bone by himself. It turns out that you have to pick up the items and put them in his mouth. Spike also had this problem where he would suddenly stop in the middle of something and would have to be reset. I was going to take Spike back and get another one. But my son told me he was bored with him, so we returned Spike and got some other items. This toy is probably more exciting for kids age 3 & 4. Overall, I don't think he is worth the high price.

Fun dinosaur and larger than life! It's pretty loud even w/ the 2 volume levels but it is nice to be able to turn off the background music. Maneuvering the dinosaur is fun for the kids and helps my 2 1/2 yr old w/ left/right, and placing the bone & ball in place and maneuvering the dinosaur to bend neck down in the correct place and also open and close his mouth around the object. In this way it's educational (fun) b/c it helps w/ fine motor skills and helps w/ cognitive skills (reasoning) b/c you need to know how to make the dinosaur do what you want him to do and where to go to do it. The cost is high for what you really get out of this dinosaur but grandma bought it so . . . (nostalgia from the Robosapien come back . . .) Hey I guess that's one of Grandma's jobs. ;-) I do foresee them playing with it little bit here and there for the next few yrs though and the friends that come over . . . they either are terrified of it or love it!!

My son got this for his 4th birthday. He wanted Spike ever since we saw him on display in Target. He has a lot of fun with it and loves when it spits out the bone and says "blech." He likes to walk Spike down the hallway and antagonize our dog. But the dog has fun with it. This wouldn't entertain my son for hours, but I don't really want it to. He plays with it for a while every few days and thats perfect. He loves to play with it when he has a friend over. We haven't had any malfunction issues with it and have had it a couple months.

this is an AWESOME toy!!, I brought this for my 3 year old and my 9 year old they both love it!... it picks up bolders, and Spike has his own personality..it's like a pet, it even has breathing sounds and sleeps when no one will play with him, it even snores,... he laughs, growls,and barks, and roars, and moves his tail too.
and I love the rechargeable Battery that is included.

We bought Spike for my 2 yr old. At first he was a little scared of him, even though he loved him behind the display at Target, but soon got over it. We've all been playing with it ALL day...its very entertaining! I read a review that said Spike couldnt pick up the boulders or bone himself, but he can, along with other things that fit in its mouth! You do have to put them directly beneath his mouth though. As for durability, today is the first day he's played with it, but I don't think it could handle a big fall. My son definitely loves Spike and knows its his:) I would highly recommend Spike.

We bought this for my 5 year old son for x-mas. We did not charge the battery the night before like we did his other toys, but it only took 4 hours and he had enough other toys to keep him busy. We have had absolutley no trouble with Spike, and my husband and I love him just as much as our son. Spike works great, and even with my miniature schnauzers trying to attack him as he walks through my house he has not had any trouble. I recommend Spike for any little boys that love dinosaurs.

I purchased this for my 5 year old for christmas. like everyone else it worked fine in the beginning. then the next day the mouth did not work. I returned the item to toys r us. there was another person on line that said they had the same problem with it and the person behind the counter advised me that the majority of them were being returned for different reasons. It was a really cute item and we loved it but I will not pay [price] for something I will have to return all the time. It is a total shame.

I bought this for my niece for her 5th bday. She absolutely loved it in the store. I had to take it back and swap it out the day she got it because one of his legs kept falling off and he wouldn't stand up. When I got the second one home he worked right, but within a day one his legs was coming off again. His tail actually came off 3 times in one day. My niece really liked it, he's fun to play with...but only for a few minutes. We all got bored with him within an hour. I'm taking him back for a final time and getting her something else.

My son just loved this toy at the store so I bought him one for xmas. Put it all together xmas eve night and it didn't work! It would turn on and roar but then nothing. I returned it and got another one, this one worked for a brief time, like two minutes and then would just shut down. I returned that one and got our third and final dinosaur. He worked for a day and then his mouth wouldn't open. So I returned that one and we are now without a Spike. It was just way too expensive to not work properly and way too much hassle :( It would've been a super cool toy if we didn't have so many problems with it!!
