Description

Forge combines style, design, functionality and class to create the second model in the Comfort Mountain Series—the Devon CM. Inspired by the newness of spring, the Devon in Derby Green is a great accessory for off to the races or a leisurely afternoon with friends. The ideal crossover bike, the Devon CM is great in overall quality. 17" frame fits most riders 5’4" to 5’8". Note: Frame size is determined by measuring the distance from the center of the bottom bracket (the bolt that locks in the crank) to the top of the seat tube. Stand-over height is determined by measuring the distance from the ground to the top tube. A bike that you ride only on paved surfaces and never take off road should give you a minimum stand-over height clearance of 2" a bike that you ride on unpaved surfaces should give you a minimum of 3" of stand-over height clearance and a bike that you ride off road should give you a minimum of 4" of stand-over height clearance.

Features

  • All-aluminum, double-butted lightweight frame with integrated rack, child seat and fender mounts
  • Shimano Altus 21-speed derailleur and Shimano Altus shifters
  • Kenda 26x1.95" hybrid tires from light off-road to bike paths with Tektro alloy linear brakes for reliable stopping
  • SR NEX suspension fork to smooth out the bumps and alloy seat post suspension with adjustable clamp for a smooth ride
  • Forge adjustable stem for optional riding positions and WTB saddle and easy-close fastener grips for comfort and performance

Great value for the $$ August 24, 2007 Reviewer:  KR See all my reviews >

I was looking for an entry level bike with comfort features (front fork and seat post suspension, adjustable stem) that I could ride on gravel or paved roads. I shopped around quite a bit before deciding on this bike and I'm very pleased with my choice. My local bike shop wanted at least $100 more for a bike with similar features, so that helped me make the choice. (I probably could have made that up in time spent on assembly and fitting, but price was my main concern at the time.)

I was also concerned about how the bike would arrive after shipping, but it was packaged well and suffered only a few minor paint scratches. I was able to assemble the bike in a few hours with good detailed instructions. However, tuning up the brakes and derailleurs took some patience and several tries over a few days. (If you're not into that kind of thing, buy a bike already assembled at your local bike shop. Don't expect to have a bike mailed to you that you can ride right out of the box!)

The bike rides great and shifts smoothly. The Shimano Altus is low end of the range, but if tuned properly, it works great. It does what it's supposed to do and looks good doing it, too. I like the color (it looks better in person than in the pictures) and that it's not too "girly". The seat is comfortable without being overly cushioned and wide. I also like that it's lightweight. I have no troubles getting it on and off the bike rack, which was another concern I had.

My only gripes are: The [company's] website says this bike has an adjustable stem, which it does not. (An adjustable stem allows you do move the handlebars closer to you for a more upright ride, it's easier on the back) I swapped out the stem with an adjustable one for less than $20, but shouldn't have had to. The website also says tires have Presta valves, but they're Schrader. Minor points, but worth mentioning.

Overall, this is a great bike and you won't find a better buy at any of the chain stores.

UPDATE: 8/11/08 I've had this bike almost a year now and it is still going strong, still shifting smoothly and I've been putting about 60 miles a week on it. I have added a gel seat cover, bottle holder, odometer/speedometer and kickstand. I find myself riding it mostly on paved paths and it is kind of slow because of the knobby MTB tires and the weight of the bike. It's not terribly heavy, but it's no lightweight either. I will probably look for a road bike and keep this bike for trails. You can't go wrong with this bike it's a great buy, but if you have the "need for speed" on pavement, you might want a different bike.

Perfect Bike July 27, 2007 Reviewer:  Love to Ride (Florida)  See all my reviews >

Thanks Target

I was looking for a nice crossover bike from roads to gravel paths, since I live outside the city. But at the same time I didn't want to break the bank. After talking to my friend who bought the Forge street bike she highly recommended Forge. So I called Forge, they were extremely helpful and nice in explaining the right bike for my type of riding. I wanted to write this review to say I love this bike, it exceeded my expectations. The bike is a pretty color and exceptionally light making it comfortable to ride, shifters and gears are smooth and simple. This is my first purchase on target.com of which I was extremely satisfied. Highly, Highly recommend this bike if you want a nice bike.

AWESOME Bike for the Price! June 26, 2008 Reviewer:  Ashley T. "Ashley T." (Kansas)  See all my reviews >

This bike is Amazing!! I didn't want to spend a lot on a bike since I won't be hardcore mountain biking or street biking. I reviewed and researched a lot of bikes and this one is on my #1 list. THE SEAT--is super comfortable, the most comfortable out of all the bikes I have test drove. THE GEARS--really cool shifting mechanism and THE SHOCKS-- awesome over bumps. I have never heard of FORGE, but I am sold. I will buy another one in future years to come.

You expected it ASSEMBLED?!? June 12, 2008 Reviewer:  Samurai361 (Virginia, USA)  See all my reviews >

ALL bikes with derailleurs require some skill to assemble and setup. And ANY bike bought online will come in a box and need to be assembled. Duh! These are very good bikes, and not what you expect from a department store. Most local bike shops will do a setup for a fee, and you will still save money over one of their bikes.

great bike even better service July 21, 2009 Reviewer:  Sharon Smith Real Name See all my reviews >

Loving the bike, but the service is what I really want to talk about. I called and explained my problem to Mike and he was wonderful. Gave me the option of sending me the part or letting me take the bike to a shop and having them switch it over at no cost to me!
Can't ask for better than that. I highly recommend Forge and Mike.

Good value & excellent service June 26, 2009 Reviewer:  Stump Jumper (Sheboygan, WI USA)  See all my reviews >

Bought a Devon CM for my girlfriend for Christmas and I had some issues regarding shipping (Target's estimate showed that I would get it in by or right around Christmas). Target kept revising shipping estimate, so I had to give her a picture of it in a card. Target customer service had no clue as to when it would actually arrive, so I called the helpful folks at Forge, and they gave me a realistic shipping window and were very helpful and responsive. Also reimbursed me for shipping. Nice! The bike finally arrived and it was in great condition, easy to put together if you are somewhat familiar with bikes and (most importantly) my girlfriend loves it.

Don't waste time elsewhere... May 26, 2009 Reviewer:  Family Man (Peachtree City, GA, USA)  See all my reviews >

I bought my wife a mountain bike that was one of Forge's competitors. She liked the bike and it worked for what she wanted to do - ride as family.

Unfortunately I let her ride my Forge bike at which time I knew she was hooked. I returned her bike and bought her this bike. She absolutely loves it and it has been a great deal.

These bikes are well worth the price and Customer Service is incredible.

Don't waste your time and money buying elsewhere. Get a Forge...

Perfect Bike! August 6, 2007 Reviewer:  Indy Mtn Bike Man (Indianapolis, IN)  See all my reviews >

I recently bought a Forge bike for each my wife and myself. For my wife I bought this Devon CM, and for myself the Sawback 5xx. I chose Forge only after I spent considerable time reading reviews online from other satisfied customers.

Both bikes have been excellent! My wife absolutely loves her bike. It keeps the tough, rugged looks of a good mountain bike while still having the dimensions and angles more comfortable for her. It also helps that it comes in her favorite color, Green.

Since buying the Devon CM, I'm a happy husband because I've re-introduced her to biking, and she loves it. The front suspension fork AND the shock-absorbing seat post and comfy seat make her a happy rider. The shifters and brakes work as they should. The finish on the frame is perfect. The tires are great for pavement and trail. Everything about this bike was exactly what we wanted.

Forge is a great company to deal with. I, on behalf of my happy wife, highly recommend this product.
