5 Thumbs up! January 21, 2008 Reviewer:  cgazsc (Calif.)  See all my reviews >

I'm amazed that this very inexpensive remote has learned every odd-ball code I've thrown at it. I have another learning remote from Radio Shack that will not learn some of these codes. About the only improvement I'd like to see would be for the "learning" eye to be at the bottom rather than the top.

From an installer's stand point great remote December 18, 2008 Reviewer:  Mike - (Chicago, IL)  See all my reviews >

I install very expensive remotes as a Low Voltage installer. I used this remote on my own small home TV setup. I have an old TV, a HDTV set-top converter box, a stero, and a VCR. The learninig function is quick and easy (be careful to tap your buttons so it only records the code once, otherwise you'll have a double tap). The remote also has a master clear, something that's missing from many other remotes. It's nice to start fresh.

Either way for 13 bucks this is the best cheap universal. I've also installed this in a customers house for one of thier smaller TV's when they lost the remote and wanted a cheap replacement.

The only con is the volume and channel controls. I normally like the controls in the middle of the remote (my wife agrees).

Great Learning Remote May 29, 2009 Reviewer:  had2manyremotes "garydelsol" (Wilmington,NC,USA)  See all my reviews >

This remote is easy to set up and I even set up my digital convertor box on it, I used Audio /aux button and programed
it with the learn mode. Now I can use the one remote for
Sattelite,tv,vcr, dvd recorder and the digital converor box.
works great. This remote is better then the Phillips that I had to replace, the power on ,off bottom quit working.

Future-proof! July 30, 2008 Reviewer:  Riick See all my reviews >

The learning feature allows this remote to handle all devices, even those not on GE's code list. This means it should be able to handle any future device. It also means it can handle devices not typically associated with a universal remote. For instance, I made the "DVD mode" control my fan since I don't have a DVD player. You choose which button does what. For instance, I assigned the power button for fan on/off, the volume buttons for fan speed, and the arrow buttons for osciallation on/off. If you'd rather use codes for setting up some of your devices, you can. And then you can use the learn feature to alter the settings to your liking. For instance, I used one of the codes to set up my VCR. It worked almost perfectly but didn't handle "counter-reset", so I took the ten seconds to assign a button for that task.

The learning feature is very easy to use: in learn mode with the remotes facing each other, press a button on the GE remote, then press a button on the old remote, press another button on the GE remote, etc. And if you later want to change or add something, you don't have to start all over again. Just set the button you want to set and everything else will stay the same. (Of course, if you WANT to clear everything and start over you can.)

The remote is comfortable to hold and I like the layout of the buttons. Mode, power, channels, volume, etc are together and easily thumb-controlled up top. Menu setting buttons and play/rewind/etc. are together and easily thumb controlled on the bottom. The mode buttons are arranged in a circle, so they are easy to distinguish just by feel (TV at 12 o'clock, stereo at 5 o'clock, etc).

In summary, I think this remote is brilliantly designed and extreemely versatile. At only a few dollars more than the non-learning remotes, it is an incredible bargain.

Wonderful Device April 29, 2009 Reviewer:  Abby C. (Orlando, FL)  See all my reviews >

I think for the price you pay for this device, it is an especially great deal. The butons are laid out well. It also has a lot of bottons for newer devices that older remotes don't. I use this with my HD flatscreen, and DVD player. You won't be sorry.

Numbers Rub Off April 8, 2009 Reviewer:  Jewels (Orlando, FL USA)  See all my reviews >

I got this remote less than a year ago. It functions great! But cosmetically not very good, all the numbers and CH+/- and VOL+/- have worn off. Even the mute symbol is gone.

Best Learning Remote for the Money January 18, 2009 Reviewer:  bennetwa "Ben W" (Louisville, KY)  See all my reviews >

I purchased this remote to operate my Sceptre X32 HDTV since the manufactor's remote left a lot to be desired. This remote was an excellent replacement and the learning feature was easy to use and I was able to program most of the features/fuctions for my TV that I could assign a button to. It was a very good purchas, so don't waste your money on the LCD/bloat remotes priced $60 and up. The only con: A back or display light feature would have been nice.

GE has redeemed itself October 27, 2009 Reviewer:  Sean Hanlon "sh" Real Name (ny)  See all my reviews >

I was angry about my experience with the GE backlit universal remote model, but the learning feature on this remote really works and it is really inexpensive. I'd give it 5 stars if it more easily allowed for the cable box/dvr idiosyncrasies (ie: a, b, and c buttons). However I was still able to transfer the functionality of those buttons to different ones. Overall very pleased.

easy and inexpensive August 22, 2009 Reviewer:  Modesto Mo "Mo" (Modesto, Ca.)  See all my reviews >

It does what it says it will do. I was using 3 remotes to watch TV, DirecTV and digital converter box. The DTV was learned in AUX and now I have one small remote. This learning remote even has a "guide" button to tell me what is on the TV without changing channels, which works for the TV and for the Satellite. My life is now complete - all for less than $13.
