q: what is a product recall?

A: When a governmental agency announces a recall of a product that is believed to be defective or potentially harmful to consumers, or when Target is notified of a recall by a manufacturer or by a governmental agency, we take immediate action to initiate our rapid-response plan for handling recalled product. We immediately communicate a "stop sale" to prevent impacted product from exiting distribution centers or being purchased at Target stores or Target.com.

q: how does a Target store ensure that recalled items are not sold to customers?

A: We have a formal response plan for handling affected product. We immediately communicate a "stop sale" to prevent impacted product from exiting distribution centers or being purchased at Target stores or Target.com.

q: what types of recalls are posted on Target.com?

A: Only items sold in Target stores or sold online through Target.com are posted on Target.com. See the current recall list posted on Target.com.

q: how long are recalls posted on the Target Product Recall web page for items sold at Target stores or Target.com?

A: Recall notices are typically posted on Target.com and our in-store kiosks for 240 days.

q: how long do recalls last?

A: Recalls are indefinite; they do not expire. Regardless of when you learn about a product recall, you should confirm that you do indeed have a recalled product. Guests should refer to the appropriate agency website for current and historical recall information, and then follow the detailed instructions included in the recall notice.

q: what should Guests do if they have a recalled product?

A: Guests should follow the manufacturer’s directions that are outlined in the recall notice.  Contact information for a manufacturer is typically provided within the recall notice.  Additional information pertaining to a recall can generally be found by visiting the manufacturer’s website.

q: how can I be directly notified of ALL consumer product recalls?

A: You can sign up to receive email alerts for recalled products directly from www.recalls.gov.

q: how can I find out if I have recalled product?

A: Information about recalled products sold at Target Stores or Target.com is available online on our Product Recalls page and on our in-store kiosks. Information regarding all consumer product recalls can also be found online at www.recalls.gov.

q: who do Guests contact for questions regarding recalled product sold at Target Stores or Target.com?

A: Specific questions may be directed to the manufacturer. However, if you have additional questions you may also contact: Target Guest Relations for in store purchases at 1-800-440-0680 or Target.com Guest Services for online purchases at 1-800-591-3869.

q: if one item from a specific manufacturer is recalled, does that mean all items from that manufacturer are potentially unsafe?

A: No, when a recall is issued it applies only to the specific product identified in the recall announcement and not to all products produced by that manufacturer. Recall announcements may only affect items produced during certain time periods, for certain model numbers or lot numbers. Please refer to the agency recall notice for detailed information.

q: if I purchased a recalled product from Target Stores or Target.com, can I return the product to the store and receive a refund or store credit?

A: Guests who wish to return recalled product to a Target Store or through Target.com will be accommodated with a refund. A receipt or proof of purchase is not necessary to return a recalled product. There may be some exceptions to this policy.

q: what is Target doing to help maintain safety around drugs containing pseudoephedrine?

A: Target is committed to helping maintain safe communities by participating in local, state and national initiatives to combat the illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine. Products containing pseudoephedrine will not be sold in Target stores that do not have a pharmacy.  While we understand that this policy may be an inconvenience to some guests, we believe that it will better ensure the intended and legal usage of pseudoephedrine products, and that this will have a positive impact on our communities.
