Shipping Nightmare

Reviewer:  Purple Kat  (Sacramento, CA, USA)  See all my reviews

I ordered this cabinet on 6/7/09 it was supposed to be delivered by 6/16/09. I called Target on 6/22/09 to see where the cabinet was, I was told UPS couldn't find the correct address and that's why it was taking so long to deliver. She told me a new one was in transit and should be delivered by 6/24/09. On 6/24/09, still no delivery. I went on UPS.com only to find out that it was damaged in transit and its being returned to Target. I called today to see what Target had to say this time about my delivery, its on its way I'm told. This whole time I'm waiting for my delivery, no one from Target or UPS has tried to contact me regarding these issues! Great service Target!

I ordered this piece to go with a few items I had bought in store. Ordered on Monday, at my house on Wednesday. The box was big and heavy, but, not damaged at all. Nothing was scratched or broken in the box, and my instructions were there. I timed it, it took 2 people 1.25 hours to put together. Start to completely finished. It looks absolutely beautiful, and plenty of storage. I have received many compliments on this piece.

Dissapointing

Reviewer:  grim mom "tiffany G"  (IL)  See all my reviews

I had put this on my wedding registry and an aunt from out of state ordered it for me and had it sent to my house. The box was fairly beat up, and once we removed the pieces several were scrathced up or had pieces of wood knocked off they were also missing the instructions and the screws - needless to say we brought it back to the target store and we had no problem returning it, but the amount they gave back to me, didnt cover the cost of the new one when I went online to order it - so I had to use one of my gift cards I had received to cover the difference. Im hoping the new one is much better and wont have issues with this.

I purchased this item on line. When I recieved it there was a very large and ugly factory defect on one of the shelves. I went throught the trouble of exchanging the item by sending it back through the mail and recieved a replacement item ONLY to find out the replacement item had an identicle defect on one of the shelves. Needless to say I was really angry and I took it back to the store because "fool me twice shame on me" I shouldn't have bothered trying to replace it as it was a factory defect meaning poor workmanship.....

Beautiful contemporay cabinet with easy assembly!!

Reviewer:  Savvy Shopper  See all my reviews

I finally bought the Hudson china cabinet because between the clearance price, free shipping, and 15%off, the final price couldn't be beat! It is a beautiful, contemporary piece of furniture. Assembly was easy and (as another reviewer complained about) yes, it does require the use of a power screwdriver (but wouldn't you want it to?????). The cabinet has amazing storage; I was able to fit an entire china service for 12 plus serving pieces and stemware. My only complaint, and reason for 4 out of 5 stars, is the recommened weight limit of 15lbs for each shelf (I think the dinner plates alone exceed the weight limit!). Overall a beautiful piece, it looks perfect paired with the Hudson dining table and chairs. The entire set feels a lot pricer than it actually was and provides an elegant, modern feel to a small space. Thank you Target for providing upscale styling at an affordable price!

very nice if not damaged....

Reviewer:  Gaby's mom  (Boston, MA, USA)  See all my reviews

Ok..I read the reviews before bying this cabinet. I have to say that I totally agree with the wrapping being REALLY bad !! It just looks like the peices were wrapped by someone selling the cabinet in a yard sale...4 inches of space between wood parts, totally banging on each other during transport. It's really impressive how they can get away with such bad wrapping. They didn't send the assembly instructions either.BUT if you are lucky and nothing gets damaged and if you are a little handy man and can manage with insctructions missing, once all assembled, the cabinet is really nice !
There is a dent here and there on mine, but they are manageable. If you want the cabinet as a center peice in your dining room or something like that...well just say a little prayer for it to be intact from shipping :)

very disapppointed

Reviewer:  WRS  (Lumberton, NC, USA)  See all my reviews

My husband had complained so much about assembling this piece. It's huge work and disappointing. We have assembled a few cabinets in the past and surprisingly, this sturdy-looking furniture isn't as strong as it seemed to be. Must not be the lucky ones to get this thru shipping; the door w the glass panel has very visible scratches in front. The cam screws/locks don't hook well. When we put the pieces together and stood it up, 3 or 4 locks fell. We repeated it several times and still won't hold up. The holes are bigger than the joints. We have assembled some cabinets using this kind of locks in the past and we didn't have problems. We might just look for brackets at the hardware store to fix this. It's hard to return cause nearest Target store here is like 35 miles away and it's a heavy piece. I wish they have an assembled piece in the store. The wood though is solid and beautiful. It's the assembly part that's so inconvenient.

Somewhat Disapointed

Reviewer:  Linda  (Aberdeen, MD)  See all my reviews

Nice looking cabinet, much larger than I expected, which is great for the extra storage I needed for my wine glasses. The picture shows one shelf, but there are actually three. The packaging was very bad, it was obvious that there would be damage. My husband COMPALINED when putting it together because some of the hardware was bent and the pieces did not line up at all. He had to break out some of his own tools to get it together. Two of the shelves and both doors had very noticable damage. It almost looked like I purchased it from a yard sale. If you are lucky enough to receive this product without hardware issues or damage, then it is a good purchase, I just wasn't one of the lucky ones. It was hard to decide on 2 or 3 stars.

What a long journey this has been.

Reviewer:  holliwood779  (Minneapolis, MN)  See all my reviews

I ordered this item in March 2008. It is now the end of October. When I received my Hutch in March the box had some obvious damage, and there was damage to one side, the backing, and some dings on a shelf. I made the mistake of contacting the manufacturer first. I was told that the demand for this item was high, and it would be a while before replacements would be available. After a few weeks I called back and an order was put in for my parts so when they did come in, they would be reserved. A few more weeks I was told the previous person had no clue and no parts would be available for replacement. I was then told to contact Target.com. This was Sept. I finally got a chance to contact Target, and was not happy with my first reps answer, since I'd waited too long, I needed to contact the manufacturer, Target couldn't do anything. I had to write another message through the target.com customer service stating you obviously did not listen to me, I finally got someone to listen, and I was sent another hutch, with instructions to take the parts out that I needed. So now I have to contact Target.com and get this package that weights over 70lbs back to them. I live in an apartment building and will have to coordinate something with my office and who ever is picking up this thing, not to mention getting it down to the office that is so not helpful. The hutch itself, I am happy with, but I must say, the parts from the second one for replacement, not as impressed with. They seem to be getting sloppy with the newer ones. But at least the part I needed didn't have a huge dent in it, but the finish had some roughness that shouldn't be there. And by looking at the box, one would think the piece would be unusable.

Very disappointed

Reviewer:  sparkle  (Austin TX)  See all my reviews

I am very disappointed with this cabinet. When it arrived the box was in very bad shape. Sure enough some pieces were damaged. I kept it anyway thinking the damage wasn't that bad and maybe I could hide it. Tried to assemble it. What a joke! Holes and screws didn't line up. The second shelf wouldn't even fit. It was too wide. I must say though, Target is very good about returns. [...]. Hope the box makes it back. I'd take it to the store but no way can I get this in my car. I will look for the cabinet in the store and hopefully can find one already assembled.
