I got this for my husband and I for Christmas of 2008 thinking it would help with the dust and allergies in our bedroom. Being a Ionic, I thought this was great for us. The shape fits right in the corner and out of the way, the price was reasonable and I didn't have to spend money to replace filters all the time. After owning it for the past 5 months, I see no change in the air we breath. It doesn't live up to what it's suppose to do. Still wake up and breath the same dusty and stale air. I sure wasted my money getting this garbage and urge anyone out there that really read these reviews, think twice about wasting your money on this. Maybe the ones that replace filters work better. I'm still paying off this one so won't know 'till I get one that actually works.

Last year I bought a a big price super-dooper Ionic air purifier at Sharper Image. Within 3 months it kept overheating so I returned it to the store and they switched it for another new one. Well that one lasted about 6 months and just stopped working at all. With taxes and extended warranty it cost me about a big price. That wasn't the worst part. When I went to return it to the store, I found out that Sharper Image filed for bankruptcy...so, I am out $500. When the purifier worked, it did do an excellent job. Personally, I will never by an Ionic product again.

I bought this two years ago and first I thought that it was working good. Little did I know that I was wrong. I had to clean the thing every other day and it says at the most once a week. My clean light on the machine has never turned on. I only knew to clean it because it would make a bunch of noise. Now that stupid thing doesn't even work. I clean it and turn it on again and it just make noise that means it should be cleaned even though I just cleaned it. I wish I would I have never spent money on it. I thought I would be saving have a purifier that didn't need filters, what joke. I would have been cheaper to buy on that needed filters because it would probably still be working today. Don't waste your money.

this is constantly making noises which you cannot get rid off even after cleaning it which is a whole process on its own and now the thing just stopped working all together is a waste of money or in my case a bad present

This air purifier seemed like a good idea at the time but it just can't handle much. It needs to be cleaned every few days and didn't really seem to make a difference in the meantime. You can't have it in a very big room and it's just kind of a waste of money.

I've just purchased my 2nd Ionic Pro Air Purifier. I've had the 1st one for about 5 yrs now, and am just ordering replacement blades for it. I noticed, in the last 5 or 6 months, that it starts making that static noise alot sooner after the blades have been cleaned, than it used to. I think 5 yrs for the blades is pretty darn good! I have that one in my Family Rm/basement area. I have 3 cats with 2 litter boxes, food bowls and toys in the basement, so the cats spend alot of time there. I keep the Ionic Pro between the FR and basement, and it seems to have worked very well for 5 yrs. The blades are certainly dirty every time I clean them! Our dog stays upstairs, and sheds alot of hair in the Living Rm, so I'm putting the new Ionic Pro in there. We previously bought a Holmes Air Purifier, but it makes alot of noise, and has Hepa Filters that have to be replaced often. So I think the Ionic Pro is a much better deal all the way around. I hope I can get 5+ yrs out of the new one!

I have had this air purifier for about two years - works really well. I don't have to clean it very often like the other reviews have suggested - i think it depends on the size of the room you use it in and how much dust it has to contend with. I don't have pets, so maybe that makes a difference and I also use it in a smallish space. Anyway - definitely refreshes the air and super easy to clean. I am really happy with it.

How can anyone give this product a good review? I have been reading the reviews and people are actually rating it high!!! It is a piece of junk and I would not waste my money on it. For me, it worked well for probably a day or two, but it made a lot of noise and smelled terrible. The light still comes on, but it doesn't seem to do anything but make my electric bill go up.

I bought this in hopes that it would work better than others that are less expensive. Worked okay for about 6 months. And I mean, only okay. It does make alot of annoying noise when it needs cleaned, which is like every other day. After about 6 months, it started to melt inside the unit and spread black flaky particles, like ashes all around. Don't waste your money!!!

Before I start, let me write a disclaimer that this might apply to ALL brands of this type, maybe not just the Ionic Pro. (I haven't tried the others.)
I was so excited about this item that I ordered two -- one for our bedroom and one for the room containing the cats' litter box. I only opened one, to try it out first before opening the other. The smell of the litter box was the reason for ordering.
I can tell you honestly that it DID get rid of the litter box smell, but it may only have been because it masks the litter box smell with the ozone smell! When you read the booklet that comes with it, it tells you that "you may notice a new clean scent...Ozone is the scent you are smelling", and goes on to warn people with asthma, heart disease, lung disease, breathing problems, etc. that they should talk to their doctor before using it. I do not have any of those problems, but the smell was overwhelming. It smells like a combination of bleach and sulfur. And your nasal passages feel very similar to how they feel after being exposed to bleach fumes -- kind of a raw, stinging feeling. The instructions tell you that if the smell is too strong, turn it down to Medium or Low. I was operating it on Low. Even after turning it off and opening all the doors and windows to air out the house, I could still smell it (presumably because it was still in my sinuses). I could even smell it on my skin (after washing).
I'm really disappointed to have to return my Ionic Pro, but there is no way that inhaling this ozone can be good for you. After using it, I did the research that I SHOULD have done prior to buying it. You can find many reports all over the internet about these devices, and the health risks involved. As much as I hate the litter box smell, I would rather smell that than burn away my sinuses.
