Opening cans is an ordeal

I bought this because I was having difficutly with a far less expensive can opener which gnawed open cans. I thought surely a $10 can opener will do a far better job...I was wrong.
1) The teeth won't catch easily on the edge of cans, requiring much repositioning.
2) The cutting blades continually slide off the rim of the can, bending the lid and the rim, rendering that section nearly impossible to open.
3) It leaves 2-3 uncut, bent portions that are difficult if not impossible to recut with the opener, and if you are able to cut at least one, you can bend and twist the lid by hand to snap the metal.
ADDENDUM June 6, 2007: I went back to Target and purchased a Farberware can opener and it works perfectly, opening cans smoothly and easily, everytime. I recommend the Farberware over this KitchenAid.

I have arthritis in my hands, making it difficult to open cans. Not quite ready to go with an electric opener, so I purchased this one due to the Kitchen Aid name. Actually purchased this about a year ago and opener still works great, easy to use and for me - painless!

I have had no problems whatsoever with this can opener. It opens cans perfectly every time and never skips at all. It takes very little effort to use. I've had this for about a year and it still works as good as the first time! I highly recommend this product! You won't be disappointed!

I have always used electric can openers because manuel ones are always so hard to use. I got this opener in a Kitchenaid set. The first time I went to use it I was aprehensive but was very pleased. I have yet to even take my electric can opener I bought out of the box because this can opener is just so easy.

I had my Oxo can opener for years before it finally stopped working. I purchased two other brands, both which failed terribly, before buying the KitchenAid can opener. KitchenAid is supposed to be a top brand. I have their appliances, and they're wonderful. But the can opener is junk! What happened? I purchased it three months ago. It worked great at first, but now the gears don't turn, the handle is loose, and I can't open a single can. Ugh! Why didn't I buy an Oxo?

I agree there should be 0 stars. I will say it doesn't break when you throw it so it must be durable which gets it the 1 star. Throwing it does not help it work although it doesn't make it any worse either. It has not completely opened a can yet. I usually end up trying to pry the cans open enough to dump things out.
It's not even good enough to put in a camper for occasional use. I will go back to a cheaper brand that I know works.

I agree with the person who wished there was a zero stars category for this item. I didn't even get one good use out of this. The first try was bad and it's just gotten worse. I gave up after a week of fighting with it and I switched to an opener I bought at the dollar store. It works 100 times better. I'm shocked this is so bad given the brand and the price and I'm writing to the company to complain. I'd return it to Target but who would think you'd have to return a $$ can opener? I didn't save the receipt. And who would think a simple can opener would be so lousy?

JUNK! DO NOT BUY!

Bought it for the life time warranty, but that is only if it breaks, not if it is JUNK! It does not EVER complete the full lid, forcing you to twist the final little bit of the top off the can. Then you wonder if there are sharpies in your tuna. I have cut myself several times on those sharp tips... and I have only owned it for a month.
IT stinks! I am telling you, because we should not ALL waste our money!

Junk... I love the KitchenAid brand, but I have gone threw 3 of these in one year (hoping that if was just a defected one). Nope, They are all like that. I bought the oxo brand one 6 months ago now, and I love it. I will never buy another one of these openers again!

I purchased one on a spare of the moment decision when I was out shopping, mine was of poor quality and falling apart. This is without a doubt the best can opener I have owned in my fifteen years of marriage. It opens evenly and smooth around the can and requires less force with the fingers, this is important for anyone with arthritis in the hands. I do not understand how anyone can have trouble with this. I own two as my sister-in-law purchased one for me as a surprise knowing how poorly mine was operating. I have had them both for two years now and they operate the same way as they did when purchased.
