Good storage solution

After my fiance and I merged our movie collections, we realized that we completely overwhelmed our old storage pieces. As we are in an apartment and don't have the space to upgrade to a nicer/larger entertainment center, we needed something that gave us maximum storage while occupying minimum space. Well, this thing takes up a lot of vertical space but not much floor space (assembly was a two person job, just to keep pieces in place) but it looks great, complements out existing TV stand (we got the oak/black version), and shows off our collection nicely. I'm still adjusting to the size, since it towers over our TV, but it's so nice to get our movies organized in a functional manner - and we definitely won't overwhelm this one anytime soon - we have an entire side and a half that are still empty! I love how you control the shelf height, making it easy to accommodate all kinds of movies. We're very pleased.

We bought this a few years ago because we had a pretty large collection of DVD's, video games and VHS tapes. This held them all with room for our collection to grow. We really liked that this unit didn't take a lot of wall space or floor space - it fit in a corner of the bedroom in our apartment just fine.
Although we loved the finished product, this piece was the most awkward "some assembly required" furniture I have ever come across. It's hard to describe, but there is a square hollow column down the center. The four sides of that square are made up of T'ed particle boards. The boards are only held together with one screw in the middle - until you get the top and bottom attached. This makes the middle steps of assembly very tricky, and makes the stability of the whole thing questionable for any position not perfectly vertical (like when you put it on a dolly to move...). A few extra screws on the interior faces would go a long way toward making this easier to put together and move safely.
Our unit splintered spectacularly when we moved recently, so we are currently looking for a replacement. We haven't decided if we'll get this one again or not...

Couldn't order the 2 tone color, which may have saved me a lot of grief. Had it put together once only to discover that it was wrong. Got a friend to help me the second time and discovered that I had reversed the assembling of the first boards making it not work for the shelves to go in. This is the first assemble job that I have had to get another person to help with. Like the amount that I can put in one side of the room in a little space. I have put in both VHS and DVD and still have room left over. This is a great improvement over having 2 storage units and still not having all stored. Just get help when putting together the total black one.

Just a note about the review from: lenny (phila, pa)
Looks like lenny is confusing the Large Tower (1040 capacity) with the Medium Tower (832 capacity)

All parts were present. Assembled by one person in 90 minutes (two people would be better). All parts fit together and pre-drilled holes aligned perfectly. Very stable - no fear of it falling over. Shipped with 36 adjustable shelves so 1440 CDs would fit easily. Don't know what the other reviewer was talking about. He may be reviewing the wrong product as he claims it was only to hold 1040 CDs. I would recommend this to anyone looking to store large numbers of CD/DVDs in a small space.

was lead to believe it would hold 1040 cds, but actually barely holds 800. didn't give enought shelves or pegs so can't even get it to hold 800. after spending a couple of hours putting together, i couldn't imagin trying to return it. Do not buy this item if you need to hold more than 800 cds
