The best toy Ever!

My husband had seen this toy at a friends house and had to get it for our 2 1/2 yr old son. My son loves this thing and hasn't stopped playing with it for two days. My daughter (14) and I played with it for about 20 minutes while my son was napping and tried to spell inappropriate things and it would not sound out the words. It would only recite the letters put in the spaces. Although, I didn't try words like "Gun" & "War" (which can be found on the News), I am very confident that my child will be safe from inappropriate language. I would recommend this to anyone with small children.
Thanks,
Ryan & Kymberlee's Mom

my favorite educational toy to buy for gift

This is my number one toy gift to give to new parents for a first or second birthday. My youngest started identifying letters D and B before she turned one. She would play from her walker. Not only that but she learned letter sounds which is great for pre reading, phonetics. My kids play at fridge while I cook dinner. My 4 year old really enjoys the word builder. I like that it tells them which letter to find and if they do not find it it offers hints such as this letter comes after a , it is blue, etc. This is great confidence builder. She is so proud when she builds a word. We just got another one for my little ones 2nd birthday and we decided to keep it so they will each have one to use. Makes pre dinnertime less stressful for me because the little ones can be near me and occupied with a great educational activity rather then the TV. Also, the peices are big and bulky, no sharp edges or small choking hazard pieces.

I bought 3 of these to use in my 1st grade classroom (also bought 1 Fridge Phonics for letter/sound review). I love that the magnets are sealed inside and cannot be removed and that there are lowercase letters sets available (separately). I've thrown away countless sets of magnetic letters with missing magnets. The toy is very durable and it really helps kids who may be struggling with blending words. My students really enjoy using this toy to build and sound out words. I wish that they would create one for bigger (4-6 letter) words. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this toy!

This is one of the best toys I ever purchased for my daughter. She received it from "Santa" in 2005 when she had just turned 3 and still uses today! She is in kindergarten now and loves to be in the kitchen with me. She loves the songs and the word games. Now that she is odler and able to read small words, she tries to make her own words and she loves to be told, "Great Job!" and "Great Word!" by the toy. It has been through several moves with us and has survived all that my daughter can throw at it. My son is two years older than my daughter and he had the single letter LeapFrog Fridge magnet. I wish they had this one when he was younger! Great gift for ages 3+.

My daughter is 4 1/2, and she absolutely loves this toy! We got it for Christmas and she still plays with it every day. We also own the original one letter version from a few years ago, which was a great help with letter recognition, and phonic sounds. This toy is wonderful because it can grow with your child. My child found it frustrating at first, because she was not a great speller, but as her vocabulary has grown so has her love of this toy. Our favorite setting is word builder where you put in three letters to spell a word, then they sing a little song about the word. It's very cute. If you spell a word that doesn't exist it just says the sounds and says something like "great sounds". It has also helped with rhyming, because all you do is remove the first letter and replace it with another. [...] very fun for mom and kids! I wish they had a 4, 5, 6 letter version!

Can you imagine a toy, sold for kids ages 3 and up, that teaches them to spell and say words such as "war" and "gun"? I don't want to explan words like that to a toddler. No thanks, LeapFrog! This toy should be recalled and such offensive words deleted. Zero stars from me.

We bought this for my twins 2nd birthday. They love it! We had the old "word whammer" so it is really annoying that they changed the letter size and the old letters don't fit. But my kids love this toy and have fun making words, and it keeps them entertained while I cook dinner. Very durable and it has a very heavy magnet that stays on our fridge.

Whammer Great Idea - Jet Poor Design

1) Too heavy - won't stay on any appliance
2) THEY CHANGED THE LETTER SIZE - You can't use your old Capital letters from your old single leap letters.
3) The voice is not loud enough and doesn't say the sounds of letters and words clearly.
4) the "Vrrooommm" (which is louder than the word voice) SCARES MY SON
Was a waste of money to purchase in our house...my son is now 3 and still plays with the single capital letter older one....and will not even go near the Jet. But I guess because of the great invention idea I would recommend...but becasue of the poor design I would have to forwarn.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that 2 of the setting seem to "dumb it down" too much for the concept of spelling. We had the letter whammer too, so the first setting is useless, it's the same as the letter whammer. The second setting doesn't seem to really work for the kids--it's hoping you can find three random letters to make a word, which doesn't happen most of the time. The third setting, where you are asked to get certain letter to spell a word is pretty much the only one we use.

A friend of mine has this for her two girls and they use it everyday. I have an 9 month old who's not quite ready for this however the after thanksgiving sale for this item at [the price], I couldn't pass it up. Our daughter loves to eat the letters and share them. When my friends girls come over they are happy to see we have one too. I'm sure our daughter is going to love this. Far better then those fridge magnets we used to have when I was younger. It's a must have just for those. We even got the lower case letters that are available. =)
