I'd give this 0 stars if I could!!! Apparently they used to make a one-piece version of this, which was very good. However, this new version is absolutely terrible, useless and unsafe! It arrived in three pieces (toy box, shelf, lid) with two screws.

The assembly itself is pretty easy. However, when you get to the part where you need to put in two screws, you will definitely have a serious problem if you don't have a drill. The instructions state that you can install the two screws with a screwdriver, though they recommend using a drill. Well, unless you are a muscle man or woman, there is no way you will be able to get them in with only a screwdriver. Why? Well, the construction of this was very lazily done. They only put two indentations as an indicator of where the screws need to go. They didn't pre-drill holes. So you have to go through a few layers of plastic on your own. Easy if you have a drill! Probably impossible if you don't.

And now for the worst part. The lid of this is supposed to be easily lifted and pushed back into the body of the toy box while you or your little one retrieves toys from the box. Pushing the lid back into the body is virtually impossible. Even using both hands, while the box was pushed up against a wall, I had serious difficulty. There is no smooth movement and getting the lid back there required so much pushing that there's no way my daughter could do it. And even once I was able to get the lid back it was just as difficult, if not more so, to get the lid back out. And once it was out I couldn't even easily push it back down into place. The top of lid gets caught on the bottom of the shelf above it.

Anyway, all I can see is the lid slamming down on my daughter's head or fingers since there's no way to push it back and there's no additional support to keep it up. No thanks!

I just bought this for my 3yr old and LOVE IT! It was super easy to assemble with a screwdriver(2 screws)even though the holes are not pre-drilled. The door opens and slides back VERY EASILY and has a saftey gap feature in the front so little fingers don't get pinched. The toy box area is very spacious and the shelves are great for books, etc. I would definitely recommend this toy box! Although to save on shipping (retailer) has it in the store and (high-end retailer) has site to store pick up.
