I've used this grill with chicken, and salmon, and steak. All were fantastic! Here are some tips though: Coat the grill with olive oil. Heat on the stove, then lay the meat on the hot grill. Listen to it sizzle. Mmm Mmm. After 20 minutes or so, stick a fork in and attempt lifting. Just an edge. If it comes away easy, flip it. If it sticks to the pan, let it cook some more. You can watch the meat from the side, gradually cook.
*Don't try to flip it too early though, or you'll have a fleshy mess. Use hot water and a heavy brush to clean it. Do NOT use soap. And get a grill handle/grip so you don't burn your hand.

If you live in an apartment and the nearest grill is too far away then you should get one of these cast iron grill pans.
To cook a 1 1/2" rib eye steak you should set the electric stove to 4 and allow 15 minutes for the grill pan to reach full heat before cooking, also allow meet to warm up to room temperature before cooking. When everything is ready place the steak on the grill and cook one side for 7-9 minutes before turning over. Cook other side for 7 minutes, then reduce heat setting to 2 and turn meat over again and rotate 90 deg., allow side to cook for another 10 minutes before turning over and cooking other side for an additional 10 minutes. Remove steak from grill pan and allow meat to rest for 5 minutes before eating.
Your steak should be light brown and moist all the way through with the slightest hint of pink in the middle; cooked to perfection.
I started out cooking steaks in a regular flat bottom skillet but the entire outer surface of the steak would usually end up being over cooked and dry because of the greater area of the steak that had direct contact with the bottom of the pan. The cast iron grill skillet has the raised ridges that hold the meat up off of the bottom and allows the steak to be cooked mainly by radiant heat, also the raised ridges cause grill marks or 'blackened' meat like an outdoor grill which adds subtle flavoring without drying the meat out or over cooking.
If I were going to do it again I would buy the slightly larger, round grill pan that Lodge makes. I might also buy a second square grill pan in case I want to cook two large steaks at one time.
Clean the grill pan in the sink with hot water only(no soap); scraping off all burnt on food with a plastic brush. Do not clean the cast iron skillet in the dish washer. When clean, towel dry immediately to help prevent rusting. The Lodge website has an excellent FAQ on the care and use of cast iron cookware.
I hope enjoy your grill pan or pans as much as I enjoy mine, and I hope the grill method I used above works as well for you as it does for me.
Have a good day.

It deserves NO stars
I brought this horrible pan about a month ago the first time I used it I sprayed it w/ pam and the chicken stuck anyway!! Even though it was a nightmare to clean I still gave it another chance with pork chops and steak and STILL had the same problem
I would only recommend this to my worst enemy
