This a great game with essences of awesome role playing and captivating over the shoulder shooting, for those of you who complained about how short the game is, do the side quests, hell final fantasy can be short if you just do the story, there is tons of content in this game outside of the main story so do some exploring

I was very excited when I saw the preview videos for Mass Effect, and I have to say, the game is beautiful.
The interaction between characters during conversations is a definite improvement over other RPG's. The expressions add alot, and on Hi-Def, even the character skin textures are amazing. I was a bit worried over the se*ual warnings, but the scenes were very tastefully done, and added to the over-all storyline. Combat was a pleasure, as was being able to have the benefit of two companions and their added skills. I also appreciated the difficulty setting which allows more experienced players to be challenged, or gives novices a good game experience without overwhelming them with tough fights.
Those are a few of the positives, now for the negatives.
1. For an RPG, I found this game to be unforgivably short. When you put time and effort into building a character, a mere 8 hours of gameplay definitely shortchanges the gamer. Unlike Oblivion, when you finish this game, it is over, with no opportunity for expansions and add-ons. Very disappointing for me, since I had visions of new worlds and other downloadable missions and other such content from Xbox Live.
2. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, the all too realistic elevator rides were very irritating. What exactly was the point of all the wasted time forced on the poor gamers? Real life wastes enough of my time, and I don't play games to repeat those unpleasant experiences. I ended up using the elevators as little as possible to avoid the lengthy rides with the silly elevator music and useless news flashes.
3. I am all for sequels to good games (like Halo3), but the ending of Mass Effect gave me no sense of closure or completion. I kept wanting another chapter because I just didn't feel "done". I have never played another RPG that left me feeling so unsatisfied at the end.
Overall, this is a very good game, and worth adding to your library. I think there is tremendous potential for a sequel, and I'm sure it's already in development. I would certainly like to fill in the blanks with the rest of the story.
My little postscript: Now that this game has turned out well, I wish some smart game developer would make a similar type of game with the STAR TREK universe. Imagine all the fantastic content and story lines just waiting to be put together into another truly amazing game, so HINT, HINT!!! ;-)

Yes it doesn't take long to beat but it's still enjoyable. And being a shorter game it's easier to see the different endings. And take different party memebers around with you. It's cool because each party member reacts differently than the next.
When this game came out Bioware said that it would be the first installment of a trilogy. So if you're left wanting something more then that's the idea because the adventure does continue... also downloads have come out since the release too.
Yes you have to "start over" when you beat the game but you can choose to truely start over with a new "shepard" or you can keep the one you had with all the goodies and abilities you had when you beat the game and build a super shepard.
The gameplay is fun the graphics are awesome and the character interaction is very good. Of course there are things you wished were different but maybe in the next game :) It's a great game. You should get one!

I beat the game in four days. 'Nuff said? No? Ok, well though the graphics are great and the movement is extremely realistic, there is no reason why a $60 xbox 360 game should be beatable in less than a week. Once you finish it you can't even go back and complete your uncompleted quests. You have to start the storyline over again, and just avoid the main plotline, to do any galactic exploring. Why, exactly, is that? Nobody knows. Ask Bioware. Waste of money - Buy Oblivion if you want a really amazing game worth way more than its price. It took me four months to complete. Now that's a game.
