The plastic funnel is very uncomfortable. It's very loud and only pumping one side at a time causes the other side to leak! I tried using it with batteries when we traveled but it lost so much power it was practically useless and the batteries died really fast. By occasional use, they must mean only if you are trying to dry up your milk because! I used this about once a day for at least 3 months until I just couldn't take it any more and bought a Playtex double with soft rubber suckers for $100! Don't end up wasting your money and having to buy another one.

After reading many reviews regarding this product, I was like these people do not know what they are talking about. This pump is great. Then I started having problems with the adapter and then it happened...My pump is dying. I do love the fact that it is compact and light weight, but it is not capable of handling frequent pumping sessions. I used it 5+ times a day and it is not not for daily use. It is also loud, but my daughter doesn't seem to mind in fact she finds it to be soothing. What to do...I need a PUMP immediately and after 1 month and 5 days this ones a rap. It's a goner. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I bought this pump when I was pregnant with my second daughter after an Avent failed me with my frist. The pumped work great for the first few weeks and today it quit on me. I only use it 1-2 times a day to keep enough milk to mix with cereal and tomorrow I'm going to go and buy a Lansinah double pump as I plan to go back to school soon. This pump was great at 1st but then it started to lose suction to the point where I wouldn't get anything at all even though my breast were full, lucky when I was in the hospital I was given a (medela) manual as a backup and it works better than the electric, but isn't practical for everyday use. I would not recomend buying this pump even for occasional use your better with the manual, let alone for everday use!!!

So, i'm about to have baby#2 in about a week & bought this pump because I plan on breastfeeding my son but also want to pump to have backup milk. To my surprise I lasted a WHOLE YEAR breastfeeding my first son who LOVED to breastfeed. I had a manual breastpump because I could not afford anything else & managed to pump occasionally when I was engorged. I HATED that pump, my hands would cramp after awhile of pumping yourself. I'm so excited that I could at least afford a little more this time around & bought this electric one. I see the majority of the women love this pump & there are a few who aren't so fond of this pump...WELL, after a manual pump those bad reviews don't bother me. I'm excited to see what this pump can do once my little man is here. Thanks for the help ladies... =]

Good inexpensive pump for occasional use

I rented a hospital grade pump for 2 months and then bought this one. Of course the rented pump worked much more effectively- the motor was about 10 times bigger! I then bought this little Medela one. Its loud and much slower, but its good for occasional use. I pump when engorged or to help build a freezer stash- maybe 2-3 times per week. If I was working or exclusively pumping I would not buy this. If you travel quite often and wand to pump this would be a good pump to buy. If you exclusively pump and want something small to throw in your diaper bag to pump at a friend's house or something, this would be a good pump.

The pump was purchased for me as a gift. I have owned the pump for over a year and after 3 months of use the pump lost suction on me. I purchased a completely new valve stem and pump again worked for a short time and then lost suction. Now the pump no longer works and I am disappointed by the lack of help from Medela Customer Service.

Night & Day compared to hand pump

I was using a hand/manual pump at least once a day for the first 2 months, which was a pain & so time consuming. A friend bought me this and I love it!! I am able to pump twice as much in half the time. And it's easy to travel with. Fits in your diaper bag/purse/whatever.
The only downside is that it is a bit noisy but, otherwise, well worth it.

I never used a pump with my first four children and thought I'd try to enter the 21st century with this baby. Well, doing things the old fashioned way works better than this pump. The motor kept slowing down and making all sorts of unhappy noises. It also hurt quite a bit at times. It did express four ounces in about fifteen minutes, but I can do that w/o pain and for free by hand

This pump is awesome! I breastfed my daughter for the most part but used this as a backup when I knew I wasn't going to be able to nurse due to work or other events. It is small enough to throw in my handbag, or diaper bag and have it handy at all times. I could easily pump and be discreet. It is super easy to clean with a bottle brush.

Pros: This pump is nice in that it's small and easy to use. It has a dial to select the strength for comfort. Very portable.
Cons: VERY noisy. Batteries last about 4 uses. Pump didn't last long (died after 4 months of using it about 2-3 times/day, 3 days/week).
