First posted in early March 2007.
I was impressed after reading the reviews below and reading
about the high quality of other Forge bikes on web bike forums.
The Vero LS (and my wife's Blue Peal Athena) were well
packaged and the only damage was a plastic part on the Athena.
I 'repaired' it with tape until the new part came.
(See my Athena review).
Since I have metric hex wenches and the other basic tools,
I was able to assemble and adjust both bikes in about one
hour. (I was reading the manual a lot). :)
I noticed that similar (but more costly) bikes don't come
with a kick stand! (Mine is steel and hers is Aluminum).
This bike looks and rides great! It' better then I expected
for the money. After a couple of weeks, I decided to get
a bike lock, just in case someone thinks this is a $1200 bike!
I also got running lights for both bikes and a bike computer
for mine. It's a Planet Bike Protege 9.0 and it's the icing
on the cake.
I did have make a sleeve for the computer's clamp.
The diameter of the clamp is extra large.
I would like to continue writing about how much fun my new
Vero LS is to ride, but it's sunny out right now and
there is no way that I'm going to sit here typing when
I can be out riding my great new bike!
Cheers,
Rich

We have 300 miles our Forge bikes as of today. Much of those
miles have been on local paved roads and bike paths.
We did ride to a local park (10 miles round trip) last
weekend and got the bikes good and dirty on some rocky
trails.
The medium sized tires handled the rough spots very well.
These tires aren't real thin like road tires, but they are
not as fat (or noisy) as dirtbike tires.
We went up some rocky trails where I could never take
a street bike!
We are getting into much better shape now and are not
getting winded on most hills. Our rides keep getting longer
but with higher average speeds.
Last weekend we rode up to a bike shop and picked out bike
carrier for our car. This summer we plan to take our bikes
up to some of the nice bike paths in norther New England.
These bikes are such a good value, you have to look hard to
find anything to upgrade. One thing I do NOT recommend is
getting a jell-saddle cover. They are ok for the spring
time break-in period, but after you toughen up a little,
they slide around so much, you don't need them.
The Forge seats are fully adjustable. Up & down,
forward & back and the angle. I recommend trying
different settings to find the most comfortable ride.
After you get a few weeks of riding in, only very
small tweaks of the saddle are normally needed.
There is a lot of saddle adjustment info on the web.

Final note:
Every time we go for a ride, my wife says,
"I love my bike"! And, I have been replying,
ME TOO!
----Edit Oct 24,2007-----
Our Forge bikes now have 1,030 miles on them and both are
still working very well. My wife enjoys her Athena more each week.
On Monday, we were a little tired and decided not
to pack up the bikes and drive up to the Nashua River Rail Trail.
It's a 21 mile ride, so we stayed at home and rode over to the Lexington Bikeway.
We rode up to the north end of the trail, purchased a nice
lunch and ate on the picnic tables at the old rail station.
Then we headed south and found the Great Meadows hiking trails connected to the paved Bikeway.
Off-road on hiking trails is great fun! In the Fall, the
sight seeing out in the woods is great!
We did have to dismount a few times, since we were unfamiliar with the trails.
We actually ended up doing 19 miles and didn't even notice it. :)
While we were eating our sandwiches, I said, "You seem a little quite today".
She smiled that Smile at me..
Her reply was, "I just didn't want to keep repeating myself,
telling you how much FUN I'm having on these bike rides"!
She likes her bike more than any gift that I've ever given her.
And it's nice to have it work so well. When I need to adjust
anything, Mike at Forge is always ready to help out.
I've just ordered my wife a Protege 9.0 Bike computer like mine.
We recommend Forge bikes to anyone who is looking for a well made
(safe) bike that is good for road and light trail riding.

Have put about 100 miles on including a 30 mile trip. Rides great, seems to have nice components although I'm far from an expert. Ordered on a Wednesday and received on Friday. Very impressed so far...
Update: over 300 miles now and am riding 30+ mile trips on weekends. No problems whatsoever. Awesome bike.

Great Bike At A Great Price!

My boyfriend and I are casual bike riders, so we didn't want to purchase expensive bikes. After pricing around and reading a number of user reviews, we settled on this bike and the Women's Athena-V comfort bike. We are so glad we did!
The bikes are not only great on performance, but they are super sharp and stylish and stand out amongst the various comfort bikes and beach cruisers in the beach town where we live. I LOVE the open design of the Women's Athena-V bike without the higher middle bar. This open design is so comfortable, and great for a klutz like myself who has one less bar to worry about getting banged on or stuck on while trying to ride.
The 21 gears on the Men's Vero bike are perfect. The slight down-side is that my significant other is about 5'9" tall, and the bike is a tad bit high for him. However, he has been using it without a problem.
When we were researching bikes for purchase, we saw so many expensive options and weren't sure what to do. Because of the reasonable price on the Forge bikes, coupled with the great user reviews and the limited amount of riding we do, we are grateful we purchased these bikes! Our first ride was 26 miles (we got lost) and the bikes held up and were sturdy and reliable.
We are really pleased with our purchase and have had a great time cruising around on the bikes...and they get us home safely every time.

Hi I ride my forge as a commuter bike five days a week seven miles each direction. I changed the inner tubs out with self sealers added lights, odometer, and rear luggage rack. The only problem is the plastic on the front derailer. It will break because the plastic is then. Overall its a great bike for the price. It rides smooth over city streets and handles turns very well. On the positive note the adgustable steering neck lets you dial in the perfect riding position as apposed to a fixed steering neck. The shock on the seat post works very good, I am 5'11" 240lbs and it has plenty of travel.

I purchased this bike several weeks ago. It arrived in about four days in excellent condition. Instructions for assembly were good and assembly was easy. The quality of the parts such as frame, brakes and derailleurs were very good. I have ridden this bike about 50 miles so far and have really enjoyed the experience. Customer support for questions about this bike was excellent. Derailleurs shift well and did not require further adjustment. I was very pleased with this purchase. Would recommend this bike for people looking for a good comfort bike for roads and trails.

If I could have chosen no stars I would have. This bike has broken on me twice, and I am now trying to get a refund. You can't take it to a target store to get a refund. You have to find a box for the bike to fit in,and mail it back. I bought it because of the wonderful reviews and am now never going to buy one again on reviews alone. I have not only had trouble with the actual bike, but also with getting the bike. The first bike they sent me was lost in the mail and I had to wait two weeks past my estimated date of arrival before they would send another. The bike was suppose to take 5-8 business days and actually ended up taking almost a month to arrive. My best advice for all out there. Don't buy this bike unless you have actually riden it before and have to have it. I am extremely dissappointed in this product and the customer service. I will never order a thing off this online store again. Let's just hope I get a refund!

Let's start by pointing out I'm bike guy, and I've owned lot's of mountain and hybrid bikes over the years. I bought this Forge as I needed something at a certain price point that was quality, comfy, and fast. So far, this bike has wildly exceeded my expectations. It is super comfy, yet not sloppy, puts all of my pedal power into forward motion, and is fast, if you have the legs. These big tires are easily able to keep up with real road bikes on the road and in the parks, even on downhills, but especially while climbing. This frame eats up hills like no bike I've owned. Who knew? Imagine what I nicer set of wheels could do?
Also worth mentioning that this bikes rocks off road "treking" (not blasting) through single track, even with the stock tires. I'm bumfuzzled by how good this bike is off road. Really way off the beaten path too. These near 29er tires sure conquer all. And they make proper off raod tires for this, and there is ample clearance for 50mm knobbies. Sort of a hardtail 29er/cyclcross on the cheap then too.
The secret to this bike is the Aluxx (Giant made) frame. It is far advanced over other frames usually offered in lower priced bikes, even at the local bike shop. Oval top tube, hydroformed increasing diameter "twisted oval" down tube, the modern "arch" design of the seat stays as they attach to the seat post, all quality I was not expecting, and that makes a big difference in the ride and handling. This thing is disc brake ready too!!!
The shifting is fine, the cranks adequate, the tires decent, brakes fine...all good. Complaints? The suspension seat post was stiff to the point of not working when new, but has since relented, and works great now. As delivered, the wheel bearings were a bit tight, and needed my attention. The adjustable stem is junk, and should be scrapped with a solid one piece as soon as you find out what angle you need. This lightens the bike, and gives you back wasted energy. Also, I would love to have this bike in the next size up, a 21", which would work better for me, and many with long arms at, near, or over 6ft. (I'm 6ft in shoes, long torso, long arms, 185lbs.)
My bike shipped with 170mm cranks, and a call to Forge had them ship me a proper 175mm cranks. Nice folks and responsive.

I got this bike for my husband last spring, and it has held up well and given him no problems. He hadn't been on a bike since he was a kid (so nothing to compare it to)but he seems quite happy with this one. He rides about 3 days a week and he's a big fellow, so he gives it a good workout!
He broke the "bash guard" (plastic cover for gears) and customer service was terrific. They sent him a new one free and kept tabs on it from order to delivery.
I don't think you can beat the price and the service.
