Favorite baby product!

This monitor is WONDERFUL!! This would be my one baby product I "cannot live without". It saves tons of time and energy (which well all know as moms, we need lots of both!). You can view your baby, or in my case babies, from anywhere in the house and saves many unnecessary trips up the stairs. They also sell additional cameras separately which are great for moms w/ multiples or to view another child. Worth the $!

Here's the solution to the mentioned problem

We have had this for two years and it has been such a blessing. There are occasional irritants, but they are so minor that I logged on today to register for a socond camera to monitor our second child.
Cons:
-As with any baby monitor that has a good range, you may be able to pick up sound and immage from your neighbor's baby monitor and vise versa. This is because the government has alloted a certain range of frequency for different kinds of communication devices, so every baby monitor is on the same small frequency range. If the locaton of your camera (which broadcasts the signal) is within range of your neigbor's receiver, your neighbor's baby monitor will pick up sound and immage of your baby. If your receiver is within 350 feet (the range of this system) of your neighbor's baby monitor camera, you will pick up sound and immage from your neighbor's baby monitor. To solve the problem either pick your child's room or which wall you install the camera and where you place the reciever with respect to whether your neighbor has young children or not, or buy a baby monitoring system with a smaller range.
- Occasionally we get loud static. Sometimes turning the reciever to face a bit to the right or left stops the static, but sometimes it does not. In such occasions, which last a few or several minutes, we just turn the volume all the way down and ride it out.
-If you try to buy a second camera for this system, beware that not all Summer Infant monitors are compatible with eachother. Apparently, Summer sells a 1.8ghz video system and a 2.5ghz system. Each model looks almost identical except for color. There is a blue one currently on sale, which is not compatible with this silver system.
Pros:
- The ability to see what is going on in our very active daughter's crib is priceless. Not only we can tell when she is sleeping and when she is awake, but if we need to go in to intervene when she makes noise or cries (i.e. she is just mumbling in her sleep, or she is upset because she threw her teddy blanket out of the crib, or she has stuck her leg out of the crib and can't bring it back in). It has even brought to our attention that it is time to switch from crib to a toddler bed, since we have seen our 2 year old trying to climb out of her crib.
- Versatile: Can set it so you can see and hear (useful for infants), can see with volume on mute (useful for toddler), or just hear (useful if you are moving around the house doing chores).
- Durable: After 2 years it still works and has survived our toddler yanking it off the table and to the ground to play with it numerous times.
- Battery lasts a long time. We have on occasion forgotten to plug it in at night, and have had it out of battery only once (when it was unplugged for most of the day as well).
-Highly portable

Piece of Junk - Don't buy

We bought this on the recommendation of others and couldn't more mad that we wasted our money. The battery died after just a month of use and we can't find a replacement for it because it doesn't run on regular AA or AAA batteries. It must run on the same frequencies as telephones because we get a tremendous amount of static when the neighbor is on the phone and when our phone is on. I do like that is portable though-which is nice when the battery works.

Died after only 4 days

I bought this monitor and thought it was heaven sent. I could check on my baby without getting out of bed (he's a noisy sleeper and was driving me nuts everytime I went to his room only to find him squealing and grunting in his sleep). Then on the 4th day of using it the monitor part died. I am extremely disappointed that something so expensive could die so quickly. Especially something that is more or less a necessity in my house.

Only good for 6 months

I bought this monitor and absolutely loved it for the first 6 months. Being a first time mom, I took it everywhere with me. After about 6 months the battery died in the monitor and I could only use it while it was plugged in. It takes a special battery (that is not rechargeable) and can only be ordered from the manufacture (no AA or AAA batteries). Don't get me wrong having a video monitor was still very useful but if I had known that I would have to keep it plugged in all the time, I would have bought one with a bigger monitor.
Also, as it got older the static became unbearable. It drove me crazy at night and the picture became difficult to see. Eventually, I broke down and replaced it with just a regular audio monitor.
Another, odd thing… Make sure your neighbors and you are on different frequencies. I remember one night, as I walked by and thought to myself, "Wow she actually has her blanket on. What is that in her crib?" I quickly realized I was not looking at my daughter, it was our neighbor's little boy. Got a laugh but kind of creepy too.

We loved this monitor when we first bought it. There is no comfort that compares to being able to see your baby sleeping, especially those first few months. However, about 2 months in the battery died and you can not replace it, so it needed to be plugged in at all times. Then about a month or so after that we started to have problems with the power cord not making a good connection and would have to fool with it for a few minutes to get it to work. A few minutes turned in to many minutes and at times it would just loose power at night. Now about 7 months in it no longer works at all. Almost [.......]for this item and it dies after 7 months...that is just crazy!

We have been using this monitor since my son moved into his own room one year ago and it has been great! I love that it provides options for how you want to monitor your baby: You can turn the video off or turn the sound off and just watch the lights if you're watching tv. Have had some problems with static, but it seems to come and go and it never lasts long. The "color" monitor is pointless, though. You can only see color if there is bright light in the room. Excellent range.

It took me a while to finally break down and buy this monitors but I finally did and I LOVE it!!!!! I keep it plugged in by my bed at night but turned off so it can charge (I only turn it on if I hear my son to see if he is awake). Then during the day, I keep it unplugged and use it when he is napping. I absolutely think this monitor is the best thing ever for moms and dads!!!!!!! Its so comforting to be able to see my baby boy!!

I bought the product about 8 months ago. All of the sudden when I have the video on there is a VERY loud buzzing/humming noise. It also is flashing red ALL the time. I can't have the volume on. It is very annoying. I loved this product at first and now I feel I could have spent my money on something else. I would NOT recomend this product to anyone.

We bought this video monitor for our 5 month old just last week. The sound was horrible, constant static. We read the directions and even went online to try to solve the problem - but nothing worked. When we were trying to solve this problem, we found that we could see our neighbors baby! We were NOT ok with this. Needless to say, it's being returned to the store. It's not Target's fault - this manufacturer needs to make the improvements. I would not recommend this to anyone.
