We bought one of these gates to use at the bottom of our stairway as our nine month old has learned to crawl up the stairs. After trying it for one day we returned the gate because the locking mechanism was very difficult to operate! It looks easy to use, but ours was not. It also did not fit correctly with our baseboards.

We have two of these gates installed in our house, one hardware mounted in a high-traffic doorway and one pressure-mounted to block off a storage room. The versatility is great, the installation of the hardware-mounted gate was quick (we had no difficulties with the hardware provided) and it's not hard to use at all (read the instructions, it'll help). Occasionally I need to readjust the width of the gate, but that's b/c it gets a bit too tight, not too loose as others have complained. I wish the gate came in an extra-wide model for the one other spot we need an extra-wide gate.

This gate, despite the price is plagued with cheap screws for hardware mounting. I had to purchase longer, wood screws to get the job done because the screws included had their heads twist off (and yes I followed the instructions the letter). This is why I give it three stars.
A consumer should not have to upgrade installation parts to ensure that it is properly installed.

I just ordered my 3rd one. We have one on top and bottom of the stairs and this one will go in the kitchen. We have much older children so it is easy to work. Plus the 1 handed is great. We have them mounted which was easy to do.

This was the second gate I had purshased and I absolutely love it! The first one I bought is one that locks in the middle with those clocklike gears. It's a beast. So I bought this one and it was like heaven. You can open this gate with one hand and a toddler in the other. I never attached it to the hardware because it'd wreck our doorway. And reading through the other comments of those that hate it, that seems to be their dislikement of it. I had to buy another gate for another part of the house and I bought the cheaper version of this one with the holes in the gate part and I must say it is not good. The lock is tempermental. Sometimes it works but for the most part it doesn't. So spend a little more for this one. It's worth it!

I absolutely love this gate, and it's a great price! I'm going to purchase my 3rd one after I write this review. I have one at the bottom of the stairs, in a door way, and I'm getting one for the top of the stairs.

We purchased this gate thinking it would be easy to use, and expected it to work better, since it was more expensive. It is difficult to lock in to place, and forget it if you have wide baseboards. We have had other gates in the past, and we consider this one to be the worst!!!!! Don't waste your money!

I have 2 of these gates and put one in my mothers house. I have a 13 month old, 2 1/2 year old and a 13 year old dog. My dog has mastered the pushing of the gate to open it. When she pushes it open it takes the paint off of the wall. This gate has to be constently re-adjusted to fit tightly in the openning. People not familiar with the gate have no idea how to work it. The only thing good I can say about it, is that it is easy to clean.

We purchased this item for the top of our stairs in our main room, we have it hardware mounted. It is horrible, after 'locking' it in place it pops and loses the pressure, when my 16 month old hears this he knows he can go wiggle it and it will come open. Better yet sometimes it pops and just opens itself. We contacted safety first and they replaced the first one, only a week after installing the next one it is doing the exact same thing. When Safety first was contacted this time they said they replaced it out of courtesy to me the first time and would offer a discount on another one but that is it. Of course we will NOT be purchasing any other safety first items for our current child or the new baby on the way. Please don't buy this product, it is not only a poor product is compromises the safety of your child, especially if you have it at the top of stairs.

We purchased this gate for our 3 yr olds room. He was moving to a big boy bed so this was nice to put in his doorway. I have to tell you don't waste your money. My husband installed this gate and in 3 weeks time it is now broken. Our son pushes at it and it releases, allowing him to get out of his room. Now I know he's a boy and yes he likes to hang off things, but we figured baby gates are supposed to be stronge enough to hold kids in! Again don't buy it won't last long especially if you have rough kids.
