Buyer be warned: my husband and I registered for these plates for our May 2009 wedding and while all the other pieces came in as beautiful as they are in the picture, our SECOND shipment of salad plates were not as picured, instead were a spiky ugly platinum design that did not match the rest of the set. When I contacted Target's customer service the first time they apologized - and shipped the exact same defective plates back to me. I called again and they suggested it was a bad batch - I asked (politely :) if someone could please check it before it was replaced again. I didn't think that was too unreasonable given the circumstances. They said no, no one could/would check to make sure I didn't receive defective plates for a THIRD time. They just said "wait and see". I waited a month, ordered again, and received the same defective plates. I am done. I have one set of salad plates that match the attrative design in the picture (previously ordered in Feb.) I guess I am not going to get any more. I just wanted others to be aware of this problem so you are not disappointed. You don't know what you're going to get when you order. Which is sad, because I love the design and the salad plates are all I am missing. Best of luck to future shoppers - you will need it.

If you're confused about what to expect from a design standpoint, like I was after reading the reviews, this might help.

1) There is no bird.

2) Look at the pattern for the lightest shade of silver. That is the color of the entire pattern. The darker silver is simply a reflection from the environment. The entire pattern is just a mirror, not paint.

3) The plates and bowls have a very similar, but not exact, pattern. The differences are very subtle. When it's full of food, no one will care.

I just opened the shipment of dinner plates and mugs in this pattern called Bird in Tree. Upon inspecting immediately, I noticed no bird whatsoever. Very disappointed that the name of the pattern does not describe the pattern design! The plates are beautiful and I will probably keep this set for holiday entertaining but I would like to know......where is the bird?

My 8 salad plates have a silver branch-like design that is much simpler than the design shown on the website and no bird. I like them enough to keep them but I would have preferred the design shown.

Love these dishes. They look better in person than they do online. The platinum detail is very nice. China not too durable. Recommend hand wash only if you plan to use these for more formal use rather than every day use.
