BEST ride for the bucks

Grab a beverage, this will take a bit.
I wanted a bike that was sturdy and comfortable. Mostly comfortable. I am 57 years old, good health and 55lbs over weight. I have not touched a bike in over 10 years when I used to ride a ‘mountain bike’ quite a bit. The bike would also be my exercise. I decided on this model for 3 reasons.
#1. It’s a Schwinn. I know Schwinn has gone through a few hands over the years and is not the same bike company that it was when I was twelve, but it is still a Schwinn and the name stands for quality.
#2. Target. This store has always treated me right. And as you read on, did fine on this.
#3. You guys. When I decided on what bike I needed and price, I read all there was to read about it. Including all the reviews here.
The guy in the Target bike department told me it would take him about 20 mins to assemble the bike, and that this service is free. I bought us a couple of Pepsi’s and watched him as he put it together. Mainly just the handlebars and peddles. He sized me up and set the seat and handlebars to my size. I told him I will need the Schwinn big and comphy seat that they sell. (Remember, I am 55lbs overweight) He got one off the shelf and put in on my bike. After all the checks and small adjustments we both went up to the service desk to pay for it and I asked to see the manager on duty. I asked him about the warranty. They told me that if for ANY reason I did not like this bike in the first 30 days, that I could return it for a full refund. And that there is a 90 service/repair warranty.
Put the bike in the trunk of my car (it is NOT heavy at all, easily lifted in and out, remember I am 57) and took it to the pro-bike shop right from Target. There is really only one of these type of bike stores in Davenport. I asked for a quick check of the bike to see if it needed anything or if there was any defects. (His shop does not sell “comfort” bikes and since I bought my mountain bikes from him years ago he said he would) After a good 30 mins of inspections he told me that for my weight the number of spokes were perfect. The shocks were well placed and compression was as it should be. The steel frame will help reduce shocks and vibrations. The Shimano shifter and gears were fine and the brakes were the best. Overall he said to get a better ‘comfort bike’ I would have to build a factory and make my own.
Got home, put on my helmet, and rode. After 1 hour of riding I returned home with a big smile on my face. “Right out of the box” this bike rides like a champ. Easy to peddle and shifting is quick and easy. Yes, shifting the gear ranges on the left side (1 - 3) takes about 10 seconds to get used to, but if you let the gearing do it‘s job and hear/feel the click on the number, no prob.. After that it is second nature. Right side (1 -6) is slick and accurate. Left the cement and tried the grass in the park. I could not feel any bumps.
I have been riding this bike daily for over a week now. The bike is exactly as stated, a comfort bike. I can ride for hours with no effort. I have adjusted nothing (even though Target said they would for free) and my wife has ordered the woman’s version for herself. This bike is rugged, easy to get around with and just a pure joy overall to ride. I feel like I am 12 again. I wonder where I can buy PF Flyers? hehehehe

After researching extensively what my husband would need (height/weight) in order to bike, I finally decided on this model.
It's a 26" frame, with a 36 spoke wheel. If you check out the bike forums, that's the standard for anyone that is over six feet tall and weighs over 200 lbs.
So - instead of paying $300-700 for a bike, I went to the big box store and paid $200. The bike associate was very nice and helpful - he gave us a discount because he wasn't able to find the model we wanted right away.
For a weekend ride, and a bit of exercise in the evenings - this bike will work perfectly.
We weren't looking for a commuter - or mountain bike, just for something that would support his frame, and as you can see, such a feat is possible for less than $300.
I'm actually jealous now - because his ride is smoother than mine! The seat is comfy, the shocks are wonderful (my 70's Schwinn model is hell on bumps). The shifting is a little choppy, but he's got a better handle on it now than when we first brought it home.
Here's hoping for many happy bike rides to come. :)

At first the bike's frame looked thick and heavy, but was quite surprised when I brought it down from the bike rack at the store. It’s a nice looking bike that includes a rack that can cost less depending on where you buy it. All you need it’s a price cushion seat cover to make seat softer. THIS BIKE IS NOT A 21 SPEED (only reason why I don't give it 5 stars). It’s only 18 speeds which don’t matter if you are just running local errands while getting your exercise. After a few trips here and there I had to adjust the brakes and gears because the new cables stretched. (This is normal for all new bikes weather you pay less or more) Adjustments are not hard to do if you are handy and not costly if you have someone do it for you. Overall this is a great value for the money.

I'm 6' 1" and 275pounds. This bike rides great! I was able to raise the handle bars and seat to the needed height and angle.
The bike was well put together.
The seat has a shock, and it can be adjusted by a hex wrench.
The only bad thing is that it does not shift all that smooth. But, I'm thinking its me running through the gears to fast. When done slowly, its ok.
I choose this bike over the $20 more Cimmeron. The Cimmeron just didn't feel like it was $20 more bike, and it didn't have the rear rack. But it does have 21 gears, and a better gearing system. So, that might change a few diehard minds. But for under five mile runs, I have no problem.

I purchased this bike August 26 2008 and have been riding it since I left the store. I have found it quite comfortable and surprisingly fast when I need it to be. It is only a 18 speed but it has done well in getting me around the big city and downtown chicago. I too had shopped around doing research and trying out different models. I was a little hesitant to by a bike from a big box store like target or [another retailer] but I thought it was worth a look. I couldn't be happier. The rack which I use at least twice a week is sturdy and saved me the extra purchase.
I ride it about 10 miles or more a day and so far it has performed well in rain, and wind(no snow yet )on the city streets. The only thing I might change is the seat but as I am a woman who likes a little more seat that may just be me and not the seat it comes with.
The other great thing is Target gurantees it for 90 days if you have any problems. The clerk I talked with in my local Target was very helpful and seemed to have some knowledge of the bikes I asked about. So I say yay to the comfort clear creek...

I've been trying to get my girlfriend interested in bike riding for many years with no success. It wasn't until we watched the film "Breaking Away" that she became enthusiastic (by the way, an awesome film). After looking at many bikes, we decided to get matching Clear Creeks. She got the men's model because the women's was actually a little taller for her. At [the price I paid] it's well worth it. I didn't see it on Schwinn's official website so we think it may be made exclusively for Target.
The bike rides real well, though like other reviewers have said, the seat is uncomfortable for middle-aged bottoms. I bought a Schwinn Ultra Comfort Seat and it is much better. My girlfriend's bike had to be exchanged because the chain was rubbing against the front gear shifter. We learned not to be embarrassed to try the bikes out in the store, or at least try it out in the parking lot before going home.
We ride our bikes almost daily and use them to go to restaurants & stores in our area. Get some bungie cords to attach items to the back carrier. Also spring for the water bottle at $8.
My girlfiend also bought a bell so she can ring it when I get too far ahead or when she needs help. If you don't buy this bike at least get one for yourself and your significant other if if you have one. Its a great way to exercise, save the environment and save gas money!

I had to sell my Burgman 400 Scooter which was absolutely wonderful for running errands. Needed to replace with a comfortable bike. Found the Schwinn Clear Creek Comfort Bike after many reviews. Just purchased today and rode about 8 miles. I also purchased the largest comfortable seat available at Target. This has the best ride of any bike I have ridden.. I'm 50 years old and do not want to race, etc. Just ride trails with my wife. Please purchase a larger seat. Lastly, like another reviewer rightly mentioned, the gearing of this is low. The highest gear is not as high as I would prefer. Other than that, great bike.

I just purchased this bike after much research and found it is a very well built bike in it's price class.I've been to the bike shops and the prices (with fewer selections) are much higher for a comparable bike. I did, however read all the reviews and found them helpfull in my final decision. True the seat is bad (so are the $400 ones), and did need some adjustment. I would have prefered to purchace it in the box and assemble it myself but Target assembles them all. If you don't have the comfort level to tune and adjust your own bike, buy it at a pro shop not at a box store and pay more or have a pro tune it. I found mine needed very little and the average bike rider could handle it. After adjusting it (handle bars, seat, air and brakes) which need to be done to the rider anyway, I took it for a 5 mile ride. What and awsome bike. Shifted great, great gear range and a very comfy upright riding position,up hill, down hill, flat, very nice! Just needs a better seat( the Bell Gel seat Target sells which I have from my old bike, is just the ticket) like the other reviews mentioned, but I tried the one on the bike to see for myself and they are right! My butt said, Nooooo! So there ya go. Best [money] I ever spent on a bike and would recommend it to anyone looking to get a good bike for a fair price!

I did my research and decided upon another Schwinn bike but it was sold on the day I decided to buy it. So I went back to my research and came across this one. Let's face it. A person can go crazy deciding on a bike to buy. I didn't want to spend $300 to $600 on a bike that I would be using only on weekends. All the local bike shops had very limited selections for people like me. Target and Walmart had good and varied selections. I decided upon this one due in part the positive reviews. When I purchased it I took it to the local bike shop for a tune up and he only found two problems and he said it was a good bike. A word of advice. Always take your new bike to the a bike dealer for a tuneup. I've read horror stories about some bikes almost falling apart due to improper handling. Shop around. I was quoted $50 to $75 for a "tuneup" but was charged $15!
I've ridden the bike for about 3 weeks and the only complaint is the seat. You have to be very careful when adjusting the seat. Without thinking I had my left hand on the base and was adjusting the seat with my right hand when I released the lever the seat collapsed on my thumb and took out a small chunk! Blood was everywhere! The base of the seat has sharp edges! I looked at other seats and some have a rubber "washer" that will prevent this. Others didn't have anything.
The bike rides good. It shifts smoothly. I had to buy a seat cover for the seat. My buns were sore but I think it wasn't the seats fault it was mine since I have no fat there.
Overall I'm pleased with the purchase.
Finally, do research. I've seen "cheap" bikes for around a hundred dollars with excellent reviews while much more expensive "name" bikes have gotten bad reviews. Paying more for an expensive bike doesn't always mean you are getting a better bike. Sure, I would have purchased a bike from the local bike shop but they cater to the "professional" biker and their selections for the weekend biker are very very limited.

I bought a Schwinn bike (not this one) at Target, and had to return it after three days cause chain was skipping in two gears (times three it comes to 6 gears).
Then I bought this bike, at Target again.
Same day, on the first ride with my 4 year old and my 5 year old around our sub (you can imagine the speed we were riding at), one gear started skipping again (fifth gear). I stopped and looked at the gear. One tooth was chipped off. I am returning this one as well. I don't think I will ever by a bike at Target.
