Aside from the two shelves inside and the backing, this item truly is solid wood! The shelves seem to be a thinner type of pressed board, and will do the job. The backing is the same thin paneling piece you find on everything that isn't outrageously priced. The desk itself is very sturdy and has a beautiful finish. We're using it in my daughter's tiny bedroom to save space, and it is adorable. I think one person could assemble it, but I found it very helpful to have my husband on hand to hold various pieces as I secured them. I am very happy with this item!

Of all the assemble-yourself furniture, I've purchased over the many, many years. This item was quality, construction, actual real, wood and very easy to assemble. All this, and it was made in Thailand!! Great Honey Pine finish and with little waxing, and some Fancy Knobs, will look Supper. It Exceeds, Saunders build it yourself products and you don't end up with extra parts, wondering if you forgot something.
My intended use, is for my laptop, which I'm happly using right now. Storage is great for extra DVD's and Manuals. Drilled, entry holes in rear, panel for power cord,DSL cord and Phone connections. The rear panel is not the flimzy stuff you usually get. Had second thoughts about the fold down, metal support but it is solid and I'm no longer concerned about using the laptop on it. Height is great, so I'm not looking over the top of my Bifocal, glasses. Really, Really pleased with this on-line, purchase and it was delivered exactly as indicated by the tracking order. WINDSOMEWOOD products are Quality and am now considering, the purchase of the 3-drawer File Cabinet.

well, when it arrived i was unpacking it as directed ... not with a sharp object. i was displeased to find that as i pulled the draw out, it fell apart. then i reached for the back panel and it was chiped at the corner, as if someone had taken a bite out of it. but as i got to the instructions , i was pleased to find that enclosed was a parts replacement sheet as well as a request for my comments on the product.
