Looks Great, Poor Quality September 16, 2007 Reviewer:  C. McKenna Real Name (Chicago, IL)  See all my reviews >

I bought this piece and put it together by myself (I have no choice!)and it wasn't difficult at all. The parts are very, very cheap. I had to use loctite glue with it as well, but the instructions made it pretty simple. There are no words, if you can match A, B, C, you should be fine. Took me about an hour. Once assembled and in place it looks so darn cute, just wish it were sturdier. I am hesitant to buy anymore Shabby Chic furniture pieces even though I love the look.

Look elsewhere - do NOT buy this item! July 16, 2006 Reviewer:  kay See all my reviews >

Others have praised this unit, our was poorly constructed - so the quality control must be spotty.
Over half the locking pins and cams did not engage - so the joints were all wobbly. We used wood glue to secure the parts. There are no written instructions, so you are left guessing when to place the unit around the toilet - a critical step.
It is not steady without securing it to the wall, yet there is no easy way to drill the mounting holes and then line up the top to the wall. This unit is poorly constructed and doumented. We have assembled many pieces of furniture - this was the worst. There is no web site or number to contact if you have problems, the manufacturers must not care to hear any complaints. We spent four hours on a flimsy product. We won't buy any item from Simply Shabby Chic again. Avoid this item!

Looks Awesome! Has charm, but not TOO girlie. October 10, 2007 Reviewer:  Bratislava Bebita "Amy B" (Baltimore, MD)  See all my reviews >

I did not put this together, my boyfriend did. He didn't have any major issues with it at all, but he is the handyman type, and I think it really helps if you have a knack for carpentry when putting it together, especially since it is mass produced and there may be pieces that don't quite fit without a little help. (You can get a quote on assembly by him by calling 443-528-9246.)

That said, now that it's all together, it looks great and is really sturdy and solid too. Ours doesn't have that "I put it together myself" look, and it also goes well with our shabby chic shower curtain. We have a tiny bathroom, and we couldn't survive without an etagere. This is the nicest one I've seen, and based on others I've had in the past, the first one that doesn't wobble or start to sag over time. All the pieces were in good condition upon unpacking the box- I was relieved to see that none of the glass was broken and everything went together well.

Most other etageres look really dull and utilitarian, and it was nice to find this one that is actually an attractive piece of furniture in its own right.

If you like pieces with character and a slight antique-y look, and know someone who's good at putting things together, this is the etagere for you!

Nice looking, BUT... September 9, 2007 Reviewer:  Donster "Don K" (Pittsburgh, PA USA)  See all my reviews >

This is a pretty nice looking piece of furniture, but I agree with others who rated this product on a few points. My biggest complaints center around the entire assembly process. First, there is no wording--just vague pictures to go by in the "instruction book". Second, I didn't use the cheap "tool" provided--I just used my own quality Phillips screwdriver. Third, the cam bolts are the cheapest I've ever used--they don't lock onto the pins properly if at all. Finally, the quality control is off on some of the parts. The top backboard was not die cut properly, and I had to saw off about 1/8th of an inch in order for the top of the etagere to fit over it. Once finished, I like the overall look, but it took too long (3 hours) to put it together. The unit would be sturdier if I could mount the piece to the wall, but I have expensive vintage tile that I would have had to drill into to accomplish that and I opted not to.

Unfortunately, This is Horrible July 16, 2008 Reviewer:  Jillian Maclauchlan "Plethora of Interests" Real Name (Central VA)  See all my reviews >

First of all, I was SO excited to receive this etagere as a gift because I have been wanting it for quite some time and LOVE the shabby chic line. Please read my entire post before jumping to conclusions-I wish I knew this info before putting it together. Unfortunately, this is not only a safety hazard, but it is not well made and took four hours to put together...with three adults that have plenty of experience putting do-it-yourself items together. The holes needed to be drilled deeper, the pieces did not fit together, and once put together, this etagere will topple over VERY easily. I can't even pull the knob to open the cupboard without the etagere falling towards me. The detail on the edge is beautiful, but trust me, it doesn't feel good to have this thing fall on you. Also, it's shorter than I thought (I'm guessing it's about 5 feet tall). All in all, I would NOT recommend this product. Good idea, poor construction.

Dangerous December 12, 2007 Reviewer:  Rachel's Mom (Illinois)  See all my reviews >

Top heavy and even if you mount it to the wall, wobbly and in danger of falling apart because the cams do not tighten as they should. I have a lot of experience putting together DIY furniture (I have four children 5 to 19 years old) and this was by far the worst piece of furniture I have assembled. It is a very short piece and I would be afraid to put anything beyond towels inside the cabinet for fear they would fall and break. Waste of my time and now I have to return it.

Exactly what I expected!! January 20, 2009 Reviewer:  NE Shopper (Nebraska)  See all my reviews >

Having spent nearly the same amount on a cabinet from a different store and being severely disappointed, I was beginning to wonder if my expectations for this price range were set too high. The first cabinet I bought was wobbly and looked really, really cheap - this cabinet is sturdy and really looks like a great quality piece. It is super easy to put together too.

Quality Piece of Furniture April 6, 2008 Reviewer:  Tawnee (Oregon)  See all my reviews >

This had easy to follow instructions, was all there and when I finished, a very solid piece of furniture. I swore I'd never purchase another thing that I had to put together myself, but couldn't find anything this adorable already put together so against my better judgement - I bought it and I am so glad I did. You won't be disappointed. If I can put it together by myself (50 year old female) without any problems - you will be able to also. It looks great in my main bath & I'm very pleased.

Perfect if you tweek is a little November 16, 2007 Reviewer:  J. Schisler Real Name See all my reviews >

Read other reviews and had to put in my two cents. I have this and although it was a little tough to build, was a fun challenge. When I put it behind my toilet, was surprised that the feet didn't hit the floor (too short). I ended up having my boyfriend hang it on the wall above the toilet and didn't install the legs at all. It worked out perfectly and I think it actually looks better. Since the legs install separately from the unit, there was no cutting involved and it only took him about 10 minutes to hang it, tops. It looks great in my bathroom, storage is very pretty and practical. Although this isn't what I had planned on, I am really happy with this product. It is good quality and it turns out the legs and feet were unnecessary to begin with.

Don't waste your time putting this product together! October 1, 2007 Reviewer:  Satisfied Customer (California, USA)  See all my reviews >

I purchased this item at a Target store and decided to return it after wasting 2-3 hours putting it together then disassembling it for return. It is a beautiful piece and the top unit assembled okay, but the cam locks for bottom shelf and legs were poorly constructed...the cam locks for the bottom pieces do not lock tightly into the screws, which made the unit extremely wobbly. After investing several hours into the project, and seeing how beautiful the unit was, it was very disappointing to admit to myself that it had to be returned. I can't believe Target continues to carry this product, especially, if it can be a hazardous concern. This experience has definitely made me soured on purchasing Target's furniture again.
