Pleasantly Surprised November 13, 2009 Reviewer:  Scoutster (MO)  See all my reviews >

We, too, were in the market for a Gorillapod but needed it fast. I had read very bad reviews for the Sunpak flexible tripod sold at a major electronics store, so we went to Target and found the Targus... we didn't expect much.
Happily, this product worked for all of our amateur photographing needs! In just two days, we have used it as a traditional tripod as well as wrapping it around trees and fences. A bit of advice, though: USE COMMON SENSE! You'll want to make sure that it is propped up against something (like a branch or fence cross-rail) for the best support. Pretty sure that you could have some costly damage to your camera if you get overly ambitious and expect too much from this.

Use it for your off-camera flash, too. August 10, 2009 Reviewer:  C O A C H "-Chris" (The Lone Star State)  See all my reviews >

I've got two of these. I don't trust it with my dSLR, but to be honest, I have not tried it. Mainly because it would be an expensive mistake if it failed.

I do use these to mount my off-camera strobes. The tripod is perfect for that. The quick-release head is a plus. The internal wire is pretty stiff, so I don't worry about anything coming loose while I'm not watching. The mount is 1/4" x 20-thread (common photography equipment size).

I definitely trust this for a point-and-shoot camera, or off-camera flash, or anything else that is that small.

Just Okay July 21, 2009 Reviewer:  JD3rdPig "JohndP" (Florida)  See all my reviews >

I was looking for a Gorillapod-SLRZoom but this was all they had in the store so it would have to do for the time being. My camera weight was just under the max the lit said this could handle but I had to really tighten the thumbscrew on the head to jeep it from drooping down. The legs are grippy enough but seem to have some kind of flexible wire inside them that is a bit hard to contort to grab onto various things. It never could give a secure grip I was confident to trust my dslr with. This should work fine for tiny point and shoots but definitely nothing even a bit over 2 pounds.
