Good for the money

First of all, the previous reviewers should be made aware that the cartridges aren't necessary for the operation of the computer. You can access all of the features of the cartridges right from the main toy. It seems the cartridges are there just for looks -- and yes, they are easy to lose, so I just went ahead and lost them for us -- into the trash can.
Having said that, my 5-year-old got this for Christmas last year (when she was 4) and has used it very frequently throughout this past year. She doesn't seem to have much trouble, and really enjoys it. Remember, it's a toy -- not a computer, and it is very inexpensive, so just don't go into it expecting a Mac, and you (or at least your child) will probably have alot of fun with it.

Very Disappointed

I was very disappointed in this laptop-especially after purchasing it based on the good reputation VTech has for these types of learning toys. My little guy's excitement at getting the "puter" he has wanted for so long quickly turned into frustration at the difficulty to operate it. My attempt at interactive play and learning together only resulted in his boredom as I fumbled through cumbersome activities, and the instruction booklet is completely vague and useless. My 19 year old college student tried to use it as well, and said any fun that it would have been to use is overridden by the difficulty in operating it. Only hope I can exchange it and find something better without losing my money. Boo VTech.

Inconvenient for little ones

the little chips for the different games come off the storage bar very easily, making them too easy to loose. My daughter kept dropping them as she moved her laptop from table to table. V-techs don't have a backlight which also makes it very hard to see the letters/pictures. Go with a different brand that offers the backlight.

This toy is VERY difficult for a 5 year old to use.Even an adult needs to keep referencing the owners manual to navigate through different games. The cartridges are very small and can be lost easily.

The screen is too small for even an adult to see. Graphics make it even harder to see. Hard to follow the instructions and harder still to navigate in order to follow tasks. Save your money. Returning it today!!!

A Good Toy

This toy overall was good. The only thing I had a problem with was inserting and removing the cartridges. I kind of had a hard time figuring out how to remove them, so I knew my son would too. So every time he plays with it, he can't change the cartridge unless I do it for him, and that kind of defeats the purpose of him entertaining himself, if I have to step in and help him all the time.

I bought this for my son. At the time it was even more money. The screen is extremely small, black and white, and has an 1980's graphic. I know it is (inexpensive), but we couldn't even figure out any of the games. He still never plays it because we can neither see what's going on or understand it. Also, the yellow tray in the front that is supposed to hold the chips in does not stay in place, and is constantly falling off, which makes the chips fall out. I wish I could return this.

My son received this as a Christmas present. We opened it and set it up. He has several similar toys a leapster, Thomas laptop etc. This toy was very hard to navigate and did not hold his interest. He kept trying to switch the cartridges trying to find one he could figure out. I decided to sit with him to try and help. I could not even figure out how it works. We packed it up and took it back. Instead we got the VTech Wall-E lap top. He loves it. I would not reccomend buying this.

My kids were given these as Christmas gifts. My 4 1/2 year old was really excited. But, the games and graphics and display, and sounds and everything else are so lame that it doesn't hold his interest. At 4 1/2, he was able to max out the "learning" programs and as he progressed through the levels, they didn't get much harder. The games are worthless. This leaves my husband and I thinking that maybe we just stick with the fun hands-on toys, like trucks and trains for toy time and maybe invest in a Wii...at least we'd know he was having fun. This toy is no fun and it's straining on the eyes. I can't believe they market this as an educational toy. TOTALLY not worth ANY cash...the designers should be fired.
