Description

A pair of scruffy college students describes how they left their retail jobs at Fenway Park to run the desk in Baghdad's Coalition Provisional Authority that served as an interface between the CPA and the Iraqi people, a job during which they witnessed firsthand the stresses of war on everyday people, as well as a range of disturbing illegal activities. Reprint. This Iraq War memoir tells of the experiences of two American civilians who walked away from their jobs selling "Yankees ******" t-shirts at Fenway Park and in 2004 decamped to Baghdad seeking new opportunities. Surprisingly, the two college dropouts found work with the Coalition Provisional Authority, dealing directly with the Iraqi people on a daily basis. In the green zone, Jeff Neumann and Ray Lemoine lived intensely, helping as best they could during the day and letting loose at night. Their unique perspective gave them a chance to see the good, the bad, and the ugly of the American occupation, and they present unique insights into the rarely covered demimonde of private security contractors and other non-military personnel in Iraq. In this engaging memoir, Neumann and Lemoine are candid about everything, helped along by writer Donovan Webster.
