Not good for fish

Reviewer:  Lily Bixby "Lily"  (Nashville, TN, USA)  See all my reviews

It's a creative idea but, as a keeper of many fish, I would never recommend something like this for anyone wanting to keep a happy and healthy fish. The ammonia levels in the water would get higher quicker, which can be deadly to a fish.

Requesting Information from someone who owns this

How many gallons of water does this bowl hold? There are many different opinions on the tank size necessary to keep a betta happy, and it'd be easier to judge if this bowl will work if one could more easily compare it to other tanks.

Cruel, expect to replace fish often!

Reviewer:  Athena A  (Dallas, TX)  See all my reviews

Betta fish need a filter, light, and heater to thrive. A fish in a bowl like this would be swimming in their own waste.

If you decide to buy this product, expect to perform a 50% water change DAILY. This MIGHT keep your fish alive but they will still be sick and cramped.

If you want a fish as a pretty decoration, why not get a 5 gallon aquarium? You can fit some decorations and you'll have a light, guaranteed to look fantastic in any home. Your fish will get adequate exercise, his waste will be filtered, and you'll only have to perform small water changes one weekly.

This ia not big enough for ANY fish

Reviewer:  brandi nicole atkinson "SACichlidgirl"  (montana)  See all my reviews

As an aquarist, I have some big problems with this product. As one of the previous posters mentioned, this is perpetuating a dangerous and cruel myth that betta fish can live without heaters and filters and in extremely small spaces. These things are just not true, and fish kept in tanks and bowls such as this often become painfully stunted and die long before their natural lifespan should end. Please pick up a 5 gallon tank set if you want to keep a betta. The fish will live a much longer healthier life.

Hideous and not appropriate to house a live animal

Reviewer:  Ysteb  See all my reviews

While the idea is nice, this is not an appropriate environment in which to house fish. It does not meet the minimal basic requirements of life for the fish. Betta splendens is a tropical species, requiring a constant temperature of 78 degrees. Fish kept in unfiltered environments such as this are also subject to ammonia burn- very painful and debilitating to the fish, and ultimitely fatal. These fish need at least 5 gal to develop proper musculature and have any quality of life. Could the fish survive if the water were changed every day? Possibly. Would it thrive or have any quality of life? Absolutely not. Skip this and go for at least a 5 gal setup. Mine lives in a 50 gal community tank.

Great Buy

Reviewer:  PatriciaV. "I LOVE TARGET!"  (Houston TX)  See all my reviews

I bought this fish bowl for my beta back in 2005. My poor fish has past away but the bowl is still in perfect condition. I was worried about it because it's plastic and I was worried about it falling off the wall while filled with watter but it stayed up there forever, it's easy to take down and easy to clean. I use to clean it once a week. Also I put in some shells to give it some color and not look so plane. Even with fish, shells, and water it stayed up perfectly on my wall. Never have had a problem.

Love it

Reviewer:  L. Reed "Happy Wife"  (Staten Island, NY)  See all my reviews

I was given this fishbowl from my wedding registry. I had always wanted a fish. I bought a blue betta, put in clear stones, and red and green "plant" accessories so everything in the bowl matches everything in the dining room. The only thing is you have to be careful which wall you hang it, I hung my little Finnegan on a wall that is not connected to any other room, so when the outside of the house gets cold, so does his water. I had to make a round "pot holder" big enough to go behind the bowl to insulate him in the cold months. He's a happy little guy! And I do get a lot of compliments and surprised comments with this fishbowl, I love it.

Cute.

Reviewer:  Amber & Alec "Amber & Alec"  (Maryland)  See all my reviews

I like this item but it's not very sturdy. It's a great idea but with it only being plastic I am nervous that it might fall out of the wall and kill the fish and soak my rug.

Loved this!

Reviewer:  Deborah A. Brown  (Lockport, NY)  See all my reviews

I bought this fishbowl for my mother for Christmas. She put a beta fish and some stones to match. She loved it. It worked great for her because it did not take up any space and it looked good on the wall. It is a little bothersome taking it down to clean, but even that was no problem.
We installed the bowl with one of those 3M sticky hooks. It worked fine up until last month. The whole bowl came off the wall. Next time, it will go up with a nail.
Other than that, I will order another one for her. It looks great on the wall and the beta seemed to like it in it.

Fun!

Reviewer:  MuseumMamma  (Texas)  See all my reviews

I put this above my son's changing table and it helps to keep him still while I'm doing what needs to be done. He can see the fish swimming around. Only problem we had was finding a screw head small enough, but long enough to go deep into the wall to mount the bowl with. Highly recommend using an anchor with the screw for security. Every one who sees it thinks it's the coolest. Easy to clean and maintain.
