Description
Bang on a drum set, conduct an orchestra, and make beautiful music with your Wii controller Create a musical masterpiece with up to four players. Anyone can play the huge selection of instruments in Wii Music with simple motions8212;like strumming and drumming. It's easy to play improv jams. Musicians in your band jam by simply playing their instruments to the beat of a song or by improvising to their heart8217;s content. Play faster. Play slower. Skip a beat, or throw in 10 more. No matter what you do, Wii Music automatically transforms your improv stylings into great music. There are no mistakes8212;just playing for the pure joy of playing. Wii controls immerse you in the music. You can play most of the 60-plus instruments in Wii Music using simple motions with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers. Strum to play guitar, banjo and sitar. Drum to play jazz drums, congas and marching drums. Hammer away to play piano, vibraphone and marimba. Unlike most music games, Wii Music doesn8217;t make you use complex buttons. You only need to imitate playing the instrument.

Great fun IF you actually take the time to learn it.

Kind of sad to see a negative review from someone who barely spent 15 minutes using Wii Music. "...only a few songs" it says. The truth: 50+ songs are available in Wii Music.
That kind of negative review is a pathetic, but typical, indication of today's 'instant gratification' mentality.
This game appears basic at first, but if you actually make the effort to go through the lessons and controls, there is a fun and complex 'game' here. Sure, you can make noise by waving the remote/Nunchuk around from the onset, but that isn't music.
Learn the proper timings, music styles, etcetera, and there is surprising longevity here. Also, if you have the Wii Balance Board, there is a detailed drum synthesizer tool in the program.

Not fun after 15 minutes

There are only a few songs on this game, and it gets pretty boring after about 15 minutes. Yes, there are many instruments to pick from, but you are not really playing notes, so much as you are just moving the remotes around. No skill involved.

I rented this game before spending few dollars on another dissapointing Wii game. My kids, husband and I played it all weekend. It started out really fun. My husband is musically inclined and really enjoyed it. The kids (ages 5 and 7) really liked it, too, but you couldn't tell what songs they were "playing" because they just waved the Wiimotes around and made a lot of random noise. After a day and a half of playing it, everyone was slightly bored with it, and instead of feeling like you were playing the instruments, you just feel stupid waving around the Wiimote pretending to play the instuments. There are a bunch of songs and instuments, but you have to do the lessons and other areas of the game to unlock them. I think the reviewer that said there weren't that many songs probably didn't play it long enough to unlock the songs. Overall, it was a fun game, not the best for younger kids, not entertaining for long periods of time. I dont think its worth the price, but I have a hard time paying that for ANY game, so I want to make sure its one my family LOVES before I spend that kind of money. I don't think this is one that is worth that much- maybe I will buy it once it drops into the less range.

I absolutely love this game. I do think that musicians would appreciate it more as you can experiment with a lot of different types of songs, and rhythyms and you would also better understand how it works. But you don't have to be one to enjoy it! I do think it's more geared towards teenagers, but anyone can play it really. Younger children wouldn't get the concept of it, like what beat to play on and such. It would become a bunch of racket and not music (haha)
Overall, this game is great. Good replay value also.

It is kinda complicated at first. Takes a bit to understand how to make the instruments play with out just making lots of noise. It is educational though it teaches you the instruments and under games there is a pitch matching/question game. ... we played with this game for a good hour and half after we bought it. I know my husband will take the time to learn how to play the game.

My two teenage daughters love this game. They are both musically inclined to begin with, so they understand basic concepts of timing and beats, etc. They love to make music videos with their Mii Band, then watch them and laugh. They have unlocked lots of songs that they know.
I would agree that it is not meant for young kids, as it takes some skill to follow the beats and actually make music.

Don't listen to the "Guitar Hero" players reviews!

Dear Guitar Hero, You make music worse!
Wii Music is a wonderful game for developing skills in music and training the ear. This is not... I REPEAT... is not just a simple rhythm game.
Nintendo nailed it with Wii Music! You can train the ear to pick out wrong notes, learn concepts of low to high, and even hear the parts of a chord! I expect that many music teachers will use this tool both in elementary and middle school. If you are in music education, please own this game!
Don't listen to the reviews written by people that don't know anything about music... "Guitar Hero" makes music worse!

This game is a lot of fun to play. It is not like Rock Band or Guitar Hero, nor should it be compared to them because it is a different type of game altogether. My 5 yr old likes to make music videos. My older kids like to play the games and unlock the music and instruments. It is nice having 4 controllers so you can jam with the whole family at the same time.

i rented it and played it with my little cousins for a weekend, they were old enough to get the mechanics but wernt to into it.. i played it alone and found the songs to be kinda dull. with only "50+ songs" for a next generation console? thats kind of weak compared to the 1000+ songs of rockband 2 and guitar hero world tour. this game looks like it has little replay value after 2 weeks of waving your wii-motes around

I bought this game for my 7 year old son, despite the mixed reviews. I'm so glad I did! It is a great game for the whole family, and we love playing it together. There is a bit of a learning curve at the beginning, but there are many options, and you can enjoy it at your own level of expertise. Highly reccomend!
