this is fine for salads for 1 or 2, or for berries or herbs.
it spins by means of pulling a cord, rather like starting a lawn mower. it can get very fast, so it can get greens nicely dry. a separate button stops the spin abruptly.
it seems well made. it is far better than the kitchenaid & better than the oxo models. they need fast plunging to make them go round. that means more work...if you need that kind of workout. those makers' models also do not spin as fast, meaning more time is spent in drying.
the kitchenaid one does have a separator for 3 fruits at a time, though. still, it has problems. see comments on that page.
i would recommend the zyliss spinner hands down as the best model out there.
