Target is committed to helping maintain safe communities by participating in local, state and national initiatives to combat the illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine. 

Methamphetamine is a highly addictive drug that can be made using large quantities of ingredients that can be purchased legally in retail stores.  Pseudoephedrine, a common decongestant found in many over-the-counter cold and allergy remedies, is also the key ingredient necessary in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine.  Target Corporation is leading the industry by becoming the first national retailer to announce that it will voluntarily place all products containing pseudoephedrine behind pharmacy counters.

Beginning in Summer 2005, Target guests will need to request pseudoephedrine-based medications at the pharmacy counter. Guests who purchase pseudoephedrine-based products will be limited to two packages per transaction, or to more stringent quantity restrictions as required by state or local law. Other purchase restrictions may apply.  Products containing pseudoephedrine will not be sold in Target stores that do not have a pharmacy.

While we understand that the new policy may be an inconvenience to some guests, we believe that it will better ensure the intended and legal usage of pseudoephedrine products, and that this will have a positive impact on our communities. Target would like to thank you for your support.
