| Product Safety
Guest safety has and continues to be a top priority for Target. We are working closely with our vendors, industry leaders and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on product safety issues and we can assure you that we are taking steps to ensure we have the best products -- in terms of safety and quality – on our store shelves.
We recognize guests may have questions about product safety, particularly around toys due to recent recalls. Guests should know we continually look for ways to enhance our product safety program and earlier this year implemented an enhanced testing process for our owned brand toys.
Our program tests for many factors including the overall safety and quality of the toy as well as for lead, small parts and labeling. For national brand items, we require all of our vendor partners to meet and comply with all applicable laws regarding product safety.
Recalls
We have a formal and rapid response plan for handling product recalls as quickly and efficiently as possible. Our layered approach includes a locking function at our registers so guests are not able to purchase recalled products. We communicate with team members so they can pull recalled items from store shelves and Target.com and we have several measures in place to alert our guests of impacted products including:
- Providing recall information at our stores and on the Guest Service Kiosks
- Posting information on Target.com as well as links to the CPSC and related Web sites
- Sending emails to guests who have purchased recalled products on-line
Please visit this U.S. Government Web site for more information on Product Recalls at www.recalls.gov or the CPSC at www.CPSC.gov.
Product recall and safety details can also be found here, as well as in the Guest Services area at any store.
