We have had a ball with this product. The kids like to place it on the front porch, wait for someone to come visiting and then the fun begins... Looks VERY realistic and quite scary to the unaware. Great product!
My son received this toy as a gift and was very excited to play with it. I put in new batteries and turned the switches on the remote and the tarantula on and it did not work. So I went looking for another set of new batteries. I found them and first changed out the remote's batteries. Then I picked up the tarantula and it was burning hot!! I quickly unscrewed the battery cover and got the batteries out. Please note, from the time I put the batteries in until I found out it was heating up had been less than 5 minutes. After a couple minutes I noticed that one of the batteries I had taken out had expanded a bit and the seam was starting to split. Thinking that maybe it was just faulty batteries I decided to try another brand new set once everything had cooled down. I put the batteries in, screwed the cover on and immediatly it started heating up. My son was getting ready for bed while this was going on. When the product failed to work after I had installed the batteries the first time I had almost decided to just deal with it after I put my son to bed, but he begged for 5 more minutes to play with one of his other presents so I let him stay up while I worked on the tarantula. Had I left it so I could tuck him in, I have no doubt I would have came out to a fire in my living room. This is a poorly made defective product and demonstrates that that the company making them has serious faults in construction and quality control. I will be calling them first thing in the morning. So if you decide to try this out, be sure to wait a few minutes after installing batteries to make sure you did not get stuck with a dangerous exploding or firestarting toy.
