This filter comes with a Total Air filter, but only the Allergen replacement filters are true HEPA filters, which is what I need. i received this as a gift for my daughters nursery and it works perfectly. I have it constantly running on at least the 2nd setting and don't find it too loud at all. In fact it is still quiet enough that she sleeps with it going every night. This is a TRUE HEPA, not a HEPA-type filter, and if you're concerned about air quality you shouldn't ignore the difference. There is a very noticeable difference in volume between the 3 fan settings. High is about as loud as a hairdryer on its lowest setting, Medium is about half as loud --try a hairdryer on regular setting in the next room with the door closed-- and Low is very quiet, you won't hear it if there's any ambient noise. In silence the Low setting sounds like a breeze. The airflow can be pretty strong. I keep it on my desk, if I face it toward the wall and turn it on High it blows the papers off my bookshelf 4ft away, on Low it ruffles papers about 1.5ft away. I've had it a month and keep it running 24/7, usually on Low when I'm home and Medium when I'm out, and it's still working perfectly. see less

I admit, I am a penny pinching, "do I really need it" type of person. It was kicking into spring where I live & I live with my 19 YO brother as a roommate who doesn't shower or clean his room so there is a lot of mold growing in his room. I am 24 YO, I have some of the worst allergy symptoms and can always decipher between a want v. a need. One day my allergies got bad! I was sneezing, eyes were blood shot red, my nose was running so much it started to bleed from all the sneezing & I take prescription allergy medication. I went out and bought one of these& the allergen filter that last 12 months & it started working within the first 5 minutes after I set it up. The next day I went out, bought 2 more but the bigger sized ones. Yes, the item with the filter was expensive but as I've had it now 2.5 months, I have cut down on other expenses in the long run i.e. tissue, soaps etc because of this item! My mom gave this to me as a Christmas gift in Dec. 2011. I keep it running constantly in my bedroom. It provides a mellow white noise that helps me sleep and it definitely helps manage dust and pet hair. However, I cannot find replacement filters! I found them once at Target and bought two packages that have lasted me until now. Can't find the filters at Target, and I just went through 16 pages of search results from Amazon and they don't have the filters either. Looks like I will have to replace this machine with another model that has easily findable replacement filters. Bummer. see less

Bought this a few weeks ago and so far so good. My other half has allergies to cats and we have 3 so thought this might help with cleaning the air for him in the bedroom. I don't think we'll ever get all the air pollunts totally gone but it does help with keeping the door closed. We leave it running 24 hrs. a day on high. It's amazing to see how much dust has collected on the filter so far. It's quiet no louder than a fan on low. Wish the cord was a little bit longer. This odor eliminator is a godsend! I have 3 huge indoor/outdoor dogs (two of them are German Shepherds), and no matter how much we wipe them down, the "dog" smell lingers. We have a Holmes air purifier, but it really isn't doing anything with the dog smell- it's only good for the pet dander. I decided to try it out since it's pretty cheap, and the reviews were amazing. At first I thought It wasn't working, but give it a few hours, and you've got fresh clean air! I hated buying candles, carpet deodorizers, air fresheners for it to work temporarily. My husband and I were so pleased by the effectiveness of this odor eliminator in my son's room, that we bought another one for the "Cat room"! It gets rid of ALL smells! The night light is a nice feature because it allows me to feed my son in the middle of the night without turning on the table lamp. There's poor circulation in my office, so I bought this air purifier hoping it would help with my allergies. I started using it in the office today, and I've noticed a considerable difference. I haven't sneezed once, and I don't feel congested. Even my co-workers have noticed a difference! Why did I choose this air purifier over others? 1. Although there were only two ratings, both guests gave it 5 stars. 2. It's very quiet if you keep it on the first or second setting and not disruptive to me or my cubemates...it's only noisy if you use the third setting. 3. I have 2 in the living/dinging room, & one in each room (tabletop in bathrooms), do not need one in the kitchen, the 2nd one in the main room (dining room) covers that too., The 1st 2 I got (due to many allergies from radiation treatment), I put in the main room , one wwould cover the area, but when you change the carbon filter for the 1st time, you would not believe what was on the filter , well, you know the stuff your vaccum picks up ? When I opened it the 1st time , there must of been @ least 2inches of the same thing , you find in your vaccum bag, & you know when the window shades are open , all the specs you see in the air, using this air cleaner , they are gone, that stuff in the air is dust mites, very economical ( the only other price I have seen @ most store , is, says change every 3 monthsto run 24/7, & target has the best prices for the honeywell unit, you can not tell, I have 2 house cats & 2 dogs, or smokers, , my model is the 78000, the main core is forever , the black carbon filter is wrapped around it, it says change every 3 months, I change mine every month, due to the animals, & smoking, & dust. Once you try one for only 24 hr. you will not be able to live without them, & Target has the lowest prices for the model , & sometimes goes on sale for 99.00 dollars. I have terrible allergies and was looking for an air purifier that would minimize dust and allergens, especially in my bedroom. I also wanted a purifier that was quiet and unobtrusive. After some research, I chose this one and have been very happy with my purchase. First of all, I think it's very quiet - especially on the low and medium speed. It also didn't take long at all for it to catch a lot of the dust in my room, so I am already breathing easier at night. I noticed that it even grabbed a few small dust bunnies that had gathered on my hardwood floors! A bonus of this purifier is that it reduces odors through the carbon filter. I came across this product on clearance at target and thought i would try it out. Two weeks ago I bought a pre-owned truck which had been smoked in for 6 years. The smell was so overwhelming that I could not go longer than 20 minutes in it. I cracked the window enough to put the extension cord through and let the germ guardian run over night. In the morning when I checked on it there was no smell. I ran the truck with the heater on to circulate the air through the vents (while the germ guardian was on) for about ten minutes to see if it would produce any smell. It did put out a very slight smell of smoke. I ran it again the next night and it smelt great in the morning. This product worked wonders. I forgot to mention that before purchasing I detailed every entire surface of the interior twice! I also put baking soda and vinegar in the truck to get out the smell. nothing worked like this little machine. see less

This air purifier is fahhbulous! The filtration system is comprised of charcoal, HEPA, and PCO filters and the UV light tube works to kill germs! I am awfully allergic to dust and pet hair, and my most problematic allergic reaction is shortness of breath, and in some cases, an asthma attack. My bedroom is particularly dusty- I have to clean everything in the room at least once a week to keep that filth at bay! I also have a precious pet rabbit, Deputy BunBun. He is very large(about 12 pounds) and extremely furry! He shares the bedroom with me, as he is my partner in crime (fighting!), so I also have to run the vacuum 2-3 times a week to keep his fur out of the air! I plugged the Germ Guardian in and placed it about three feet away from my bed. I immediately noticed the clean (but very light) scent that was emitted as the purified air exited! For the first time in many years, I got a full night of sleep without having to wake up and take that gawd-awful asthma inhaler. I plan on purchasing the plug in air sanitizer as well! My 1-year-old and I were stuck temporarily in a rental with a mildew problem, and both had chronic respiratory crud. In all honesty I chose the Holmes tower unit with 2 filters just because it had the least expensive filters, among the units rated for allergens and for large rooms. Our symptoms cleared up immediately, and even after a year of use I'm amazed ... In the large living space of another apartment, maintenance used a noxious exterior paint, and this eliminated the fumes in 15 minutes. We use it every night in a very large master suite now--a larger space than its rated for, and everyone wakes up with clearer sinuses. These are the best value among units with comparable specs. I have to say I was pretty skeptical. The only reason I decided to do it was because I got a 100 dollar target gift card, so it took down the price quite a bit. That, and my and my husband were dying with the new found pollen bloom in San Diego this year (we never had allergies before this year). Anyhow, we can breath now, and it even collected some of the floating pet hair in the air. The proof was on the backside of the filter. It lasts 6 months before you have to switch it out, so it's economical. It has UV and Ion air cleaning abilities too (Kills floating bacteria and floating particles that otherwise would be missed by your average filter) I'd also like to say, you know how when the sun comes in through the window and it makes all the dust show in it's path? That doesn't happen anymore. I would say this is a very worth while purchase!!! see less

Bought this 2 years ago with some Target gift cards from our wedding since Hubby has bad allergies. He has seen drastic improvements with his allergies since purchasing this product! As others have noted, it can be noisy on the higher settings. We rarely ever turn off our filter and keep it on level 2 or 3 output and we have not had any problems with it.It works really well, but is expensive to maintain especially the HEPA filters. The machine will tell you what filters need to be changed by an indicator light. The carbon filters needs to be changed every few months and the HEPA filters every two years or so. It is convenient that you can buy all the filters at Target, but the manufacturer packages the carbon filters in packs of 4 and you only need 3....and the HEPA filters are EXTREMELY expensive [....] and come in packs of two and you need 3.....I see less

We registered for this air purifier for a wedding gift. We were excited to get it since we were combining houses....meaning I moved in and brought my dog. My husband has allergies and I was anxious to make sure the dog was not noticeable to him. We run the air purifier in the main room and it seems to work very effectively. Easy set up and operation. I like the "white noise" it puts out. It is a little louder on the higher settings than I anticipated but it's not a deal breaker. We're happy with it and feel like the HEPA filter is doing its job. We cook a lot and it seems to also help dissipate food odors from the nearby kitchen. Purchased this for a 1100 sqft apartment. Keeps the "hotel smell" at bay. Had a small dinner party on Friday night...by Saturday at lunch no lurking food or smoke odors. Works well. Only complaint is the 'free' filter deal...every time I have tried to redeem it I get the "Deal has been temporarily suspended...try again in 48 hours" and that's what I have gotten for two weeks.
