We were looking for a bookshelf for my toddler daughter and had a hard time finding one that matched everything we were looking for, i.e. color, size, etc. We saw this thinking it was really cute and would go with anything, but I was unsure how large it would end up being. When we got it and put it together, not only is it adorable, it has more storage than I thought it would and is extremely sturdy, which is good because my daughter has already climbed into it to peer through the 'doors' at us, and she loves to line her books up in the shelves. I purchased this two years ago for my then 6 and 1 year-old daughters. I put it together by myself in a short amount of time. I put it in their room as a bookshelf and they used it that way for only 4 months when we had to put it in storage because we were moving. After it came out of storage, before I could put any books in it, my daughters moved their Barbies in and it has been their home ever since then. My girls don't seem to mind that the Barbies can only stand up on the top floor. I haven't bought them a larger one because they have had so much fun using their imagination with this one. One thing to note is that it is not very tall. I would not buy it specifically as a dollhouse for Barbies, but as a versatile piece for a young girl's room. see less

I bought this because I wanted better organization for my 20 month old sons bedroom. I wanted it to also be a piece of furniture that could grow with him. Once I saw this, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for, and I was right. I've NEVER put a piece of furniture together in my life, until this bookcase. I did it all on my own and the directions were very easy to follow. Took me maybe 30-40 minutes. I took my time, I wanted to do it right. It's very solid, also came with hardware to attach to the wall. Even though this is a heavy piece of furniture, little ones do love to climb! Glad it came with this, one less thing for me to have to remember. We toss toys underneath in the 2 cubbie spaces. Holds a generous amount. Hold TONS of books! Bought cute sports themed bookends, gives it a special touch. Love the top shelves as well, great for a small basket or 2 for additional storage. Excellent purchase. I bought this item for my living room to store baby stuff so I don't always have to go back and forth to the nursery. It shipped very quickly and the condition was perfect. I put it together myself since my husband was out if town. At 33 weeks pregnant, it only took maybe 45 minutes to put together. Extremely easy assembly. I gave it a 4 on quality only because it is not real wood of course however it is well worth the price. Goes really well with the rest of my dark wood furniture. And by the way, the Itso 12x13-ish canvas baskets fit perfectly on the shelves. I would definitely recommend this bookcase. see less

we bought this for our daughters nursery to hold her board books. It was easy to build and very pretty. The paint is well done and not chipping, or smearing colorings. The drawer is one drawer not two and can old just a couple light weight board books. We attatched it to the wall so that it can not be pulled down onto our daughter. The backing is the typical cheap backing but works fine. Everyone asks where we got it, expecting a high end or personalized store and are always suprised to hear we got it from Target. see less

Box was delivered covered in dust, so my inital reaction was not good. Then once we started going through the pieces we noticed one of the shelves were marked all over. As if someone took a wood marker to cover scratches on both sides of the shelf. After lining all the pieces up & counting them we soon realized a duplicate of that marked shelf was also in the box. Yay! Had they not been shipped that piece this was going to be returned because it was so badly marked. HOWEVER, once we got it together, which was very easy, it was exactly what we were looking for our son's room! Fits perfectly under his window with deep shelves for lots of books, baskets and toys. Thank you Target for sending an additional shelf to replace the damaged one without even a call. see less

i bought this last christmas for my one year old. it holds more books than you might think and i think its well made. it doesn't look cheap to me and my little girl loves it. she enjoys pulling a book out to read and sometimes she even likes to put her books back into the book shelf! i suggest anyone thats looking for a book shelf for there little one to buy this one. its much more affordable than most of the other book shelves i have seen and it works just as good as one that cost $100 or more see less

I wasn't sure what to expect for the price, but it turned out to meet my expectations. They were a shelf that would hold a reasonable number of books that the kids could readily see and access and be easy for them to put away. My only gripe is that the canvas or whatever material is used to hold the books is pretty thin and will probably wear out with heavy use. However, I don't think it would be hard to replace it by buying some cheap, but thicker fabric at a hobby store. The book case isn't incredibly large either but it still holds a good number of books. It works well for the rectangular Dr. Seuse books. The pocket depth is about 6 inches meaning square books that are less than 6 inches in width and height do not stick out. see less

I got this bookcase for my 6 year old son. The color is very attractive on line however these are the reasons we retuned the bookcase, 1.The pieces are different shades of red 2. The height of the shelf are very short so you can not fit any large size book 3. very cheap quality and easily scratches 4. the most important reason,the paint has a very terrible smell even with airring out the room for two days it was terrible it was burnning our eyes and throats. see less

This holds our cookbooks, a small plant and a basket of napkins. It is solid wood, and sturdy, although I did attach it to the wall using L-brackets because we have small children.It did not require assembly; the shelves flip up and the unit folds. It came as 2 separate 3-shelf units and one 'top' shelf. If I had ordered 2 3-shelf units, I would have been able to set one of the tops aside for use as a 6-shelf unit or use both tops and have two 3-shelves units.The shelf spacing is 11",11", 8" (from bottom to top, for each pair). see less

This bookcase arrived quickly and was very easy to assemble. (I bough two to make a library wall in the living room.) Drawer assembly, which can be the trickiest part of putting furniture together, could not have been easier. But do not let the ease of assembly fool you. This bookcase is incredibly sturdy and holds all the books and knick knacks I wanted to place on the shelves.Once assembled and in place the bookcase looks very beautiful. I had an estimate from a custom cabinet maker who wanted 10x the price to make one for the space. The crisp, white color works perfectly with the decor of my room. We just bought this bookcase for our sons' playroom! It's awesome! I put it together by myself with no problem (I had to flip it around and on its side, etc, but still did it by myself) of course my toddler had to hand me the screws since they were color coded!!It sits fine on our hardwoods....a reviewer had written that they had to put boards or something on the bottom to keep it straight...makes me think they might have a problem with their floor. It also seems pretty durable, not that cheap plywood that some of the bookcases I looked at seemed to be made of.There was enough space for books and then I used the bottom shelf and 1/2 of the second shelf for toys that didn't fit in the storage bins (that I also got at Target in the primary colors) so it all works together GREAT and I couldn't be happier.Definitely a good item for its price!!! see less

I purchased this product for my children's playroom. I actually put together several boxes to create two seperate shelving units to place on either side of a window. I used 12 cubes total, 3 across and 4 down, to create one large shelving unt. The plastic connectors were easy to use. They required a bit of pressure to get them pushed in all the way, but once there were in they stayed put. I purchased a few fabric cube boxes for some of the shelves for small toys. I left the other cubes alone to store bigger toys. see less

I purchased 2 to replace one I'd had for many years. I like the style and it fits perfectly however . . .I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the finish work. I purchased the Oak and some pieces were a different color or shade than the rest. Very noticeable when assembling the shelf. Varied from a light tan to a redish brown. Packaging could be much better. It was shipped in thin, flimsy cardboard and both boxes were broken open upon delivery. Fortunately no pieces were damaged. see less

Please review the title a couple times before purchasing. Another reviewer has mentioned the quality of the finish, so I won't go over that. This shelf was frustrating to put together. Some of the pieces were warped and had to be bent in order to get the shelf together. This also affects the fit of the screws and I had to order a longer screw in order to finish putting this together to draw all the pieces into place. The bottom of this unit is flat with no feet, so I don't recommend placing it on a warped/uneven floor. I went with this item for a child's room because of the possibility of destruction. I don't think I'll be disappointed. see less

We bought this bookshelf for our second son, in anticipation of selling his nursery furniture, which has a matching bookshelf. I like that this allows kids to see the titles and put away books easily on their own. The price is reasonable and it's not as bulky as some of the pieces I've seen in catalogs. It also seems like it will hold up well, and won't show scrapes or scuffs, and the edges are finished nicely. One piece of advice for assembly--make sure you have the poles and canvas lined up correctly before screwing in the second side piece. We did not check this and wound up with seams facing from and the pockets out of sorts, so we had to unscrew and re-do. Not fun! see less

I am VERY pleased with this sweet little bookcase! It is on the small size and some larger books need to be on their side, but the bookcase is surprisingly sturdy and holds the weight of the books quite sufficiently. It did take quite a few hands to get the bookcase put together ... two sets to hold, and one set to actually do the building ... but it went together very quickly. The materials are of good quality, the decorations are nicely painted and it is just the cutest piece of furniture! I would not hesitate to recommend it. see less

Delivery was very speedy (arrived within 8 days). I was impressed at first when I first started putting it together, the paint job is beautiful, instructions were clear and simple. I have 2 complaints, the wood is a bit thin for the shelving units, and because Target didn't put dimensions online, I thought it was going to be taller. Unfortunately, many of my girls' books didn't fit except on the top shelf (considering the thinness of the shelves) I'm a bit nervous the shelf will collapse. My daughters have not used this bookcase yet- it was purchased as a surprise. This bookcase was supposed to replace their current one, I guess I'm just going to have to get another one. see less

This item was extremely easy to put together. Came with its own tool and was put together in 20 min. I agree with the previous reviwers that it is a bit small, but the larger ones cost so much more. We are able to fit about 25 books into this book holder. Yes, 25! However, they are doubled and sometimes tripled up on top of each other, but it's better than them being on the floor. My 3 year old loves it and has an easier time chosing stories for bedtime now that he can actually see what we've got. I can see that when he outgrows the boardbook stage we will be able to fit even more books in. Something you could even keep in a closet when your child gets too old to have it displayed in his room. see less

Got these because it says it's made of pine, but there's only one piece of solid wood. The entire body of the piece is made of particle board with veneer that cracks fairly easily when putting it together. The small piece that goes across the top as the trim is the only piece that is solid wood. We'll see how it holds up with my 9 year old... see less

This is my second RiverEdge bookcase that I've purchased. The first was the 2 tiered bookcase for my daughters room. I loved it so much that I had to purchase another one, so I thought the storage for toys on this one would be perfect. It was! My daughters room is really small and has slanted ceilings, which makes these bookcases ideal. She has a lot of books and these bookcases are definitely more than enough for them. I ordered this item and literally got it next day. I was quite impressed with how quickly it came. However when I opened the box thats when all my impressiveness went out the door. The shelves and exterior sides were scratched. And worse of all, the manufacturer knew it was scratched and they tried to paint over the scatches. I was quite upset and am returning the item. I will probably order another one (since shipping is free) just to see if a decent one will be delivered. see less

We had a corner that needed this and it fit just fine. Wouldn't put heavy or large items, but the wife had stuffed animals that were cluttering up her dresser and desk, so this was a natural. Easy to assemble, durable, and my kid loves being able to see all his toys at a glance. When he want to play with lego's he grabs the bucket full of leg's and brings it out to the table or floor. When we are cleaning up we grab one bucket and run around the house throwing things in it. Everything is all in 1 place and keeps our house from looking cluttered.
