I put this together by myself the other morning.The bookcase is sturdy and well made, labeled very clearly, and the hardware was arranged in small packets according to direction's steps. Take your time. The only beef I had was with the locking pin and lock devices. You drop a circular lock into a hole and its corresponding bolt is tapped into its hole. HOwever, sometimes they dont jibe, because the lock's holes are drilled too deeply. I would highly recommend after step three to tap in the bolt, put the pieces in contact, and THEN insert the locking hoobyjiggy thingamabob. This way, you can turn it and make it surround the bolt instead of blindly trying to put the bolt into the lock. Other than that, it's great. Enjoy see less

I bought the black my husband put all 3 pieces together in a couple hours. and he love it all. Great prices. The directions were clear and it took about a half an hour for me to put it together. It was packed well, so no damage. It was a cheap piece of furniture, so I think it is about worth what was paid. I wasn't looking for a shelf to last through time, just through childhood. I didn't expect hardwood. It is sturdy enough to hold books. Its biggest fault? On the carpet, it doesn't stand flat once books are loaded. It kinda sways forward so there is a bigger gap on the top then the bottom near the wall. I put a wall anchor in. Comes with one. and I feel better about it, but it still leans forward. I think my next step would be to put a little wedge of wood under the front of it. I dunno. I think if given the chance to repurchase, I would spend a little more to get a more stable one. see less

We purchased this along with the Carson Media Stand in Espresso and two of the Carson 5 Shelf Bookcases. All of these items are well made and heavy. There was some light damage to a couple of the outside corners but the damage was easily covered with a brown Sharpie. The assembly takes a while. It took my husband and I about 2 hours to do all 4 pieces since there are dowells and screws to put everything together. We were especially impressed with the detail of the moulding on the tops of the units and on the shelves. We wound up purchasing a second Corner Bookcase to put on the other side of the Media Stand. Overall, I would purchase this brand again. It's a great value for the price paid. And Target's free shipping made it even better. see less

I am not mechanically inclined at all and I put this together in about an hour as my husband and kids slept. This is exactly as pictured! It is the perfect piece of furniture for m daughter's room, for her books and knick knacks. I bought many of the Avington pieces and they all match perfectly! My delivery came in the rain and had been sitting for hours in the rain, but everything was packed really nicely and with all the styrofoam, everything inside was dry! I've had experience assembling furniture like this, so I did not need the instructions, but overall, you don't need anything more than a Phillips head screwdriver...everything else came in the box. The pieces are real wood, except if a piece has a back piece, which is that MDF, but it is not too flimsy...as a matter of fact, once it's screwed on, it is very durable and really helps to hold everything together. I am very happy with my purchases! see less

For a DYI project I say its fairly easy for 1 person to accomplish. The instructions...HA! You have to follow the rudimentary line drawings. Just make sure you set the proper length of wooden dpwls in the proper holes which was the biggest pain. It was not very descriptive regarding this step and could leave you taking it apart to remedy this. One assembled, it looks very nice and sturdy. It would be a tremendous relief of concern if you do anchor it to the wall with the hardware I did find included - Even if you do not have off-spring running around. see less

I love these shelves!! i bought three of them for mu living room. I had a hard time finding something that had an adjustable shelf to accommodate my 12 x12 scrapbooks and these do a beautiful job. I have all my scrapbooks lined up across the bottom and use the other shelf and the top of the bookcase for display stuff. The finish looks like it would chip easily, but I enjoy a "shabby chic" look so I'm not worried. The baskets are high quality and sturdy and fit nicely into the shelves. I only had a small problem with the shelf wobbling- one leg was a tad short- but I stuck a felt piece to the bottom of the leg and it's perfect now. [...] I only bought this shelf (with the rattan baskets) versus the cheaper identical yet non-basketed shelf [...]The shelf came with all parts required to assemble it - including a hex wrench; no screwdriver or hammer was required, though I did use my hammer to tap in the wood plugs at the end. No parts of the shelf assembly were damaged, and the wood is deeply and well-stained, if a little grainy in parts. It looks much more expensive than it was, and fits in well with my modern/mission decor. The colors are true to the picture shown online. Assembly took me approximately 15-20 minutes on my own, free of frustration, and resulted in a very pretty, very sturdy shelf perfect for my needs - a book shelf next to a desk that will have things sitting on top of and within it. The rattan baskets are nice plus, though I'm not sure I'll use them every day - they also seem well-made. I was a bit hesitant once I saw one star of a previous review but after I read it I realized I need to still buy one and rehabilitate its reputation. My package wasn't damaged and it was really heavy, which is good, because a piece of furniture like that, you want it stable and reliable. I enjoyed assembling it, too, because everything was such a good quality and all the hardware was packed in sections for part 1, 2 and so on of assembly. We had a corner in our living room that asked for something and this shelf just clicked in there. So ready to put some decor and books in it and it's ready to roll. I also appreciate that it has legs, because it's easier to run the wires behind it. It had a little scratch - paint off - on the top trim, but I decided it's not worth the hassle of return, nothing a little black sharpie couldn't fix. see less

I could have dealt with it if it was a crack in a shelf but it was the entire side/support. The corner was busted off and it had atleast 3 cracks in the middle of the wood. Arrived in good shape and took a few hours to put together. Once assembled it looks really good and is sturdy. It is probably a bit larger than I really needed but it looks nice and I am getting the other pieces of the collection to finish off my bedroom. The color is not really white, it is definitely off-white or cream colored but the antiquing looks pretty good for RTA furniture. This thing holds A LOT of stuff, mine is mostly folded up T-shirts, but there are a ton of them and it still has room for more. I have the dresser and a bookcase on the way. I love this book case! It is sturdy and sleek looking and I have already received so many compliments on it and people asking me where I got it. I was able to put it together by myself in probably about 30-45 minutes. The instructions are easy and there's not a whole lot too it. I agree it is a pain to put together. Two people are needed. However, it is a great shelf once together and ready for use. The cost is a bit high, but it is real wood and not cardboard. As the previous poster noted- it has a thinner backing, however, it does not take away from the attractiveness of the bookcase and seems more than able to hold the books and toys I have placed on the shelves. I bought this bookcase to fill an empty corner in my bedroom that needed some nicer organization. I assembled it in about a half hour and I am very impressed with the overall look... appears much more expensive than it actually is. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars on quality was there were a few scuffs on two of the shelves, but a little furniture polish helped to diminish them a bit, and the pegs that connect the upper and lower pieces did not want to go in as easily as they probably should have. Also, heads up on the 3 wood screws required to secure the two pieces... one screw goes on the back two pieces and attaches fine, however the screws that go into the side pieces were at a very awkward angle and difficult to screw in - you need a short phillips head or it won't go in... I ended up using a swiss army knife. All in all I'm very happy with the shelf and you can't beat the price. Oh, and shipping was super fast, got here a week earlier than Target quoted!! see less

This product is great if you just need an extra shelf, night stand, plant stand or anything else you can imagine a use for. I acutally bought this product as a stand for our 3 gallon water filter unit. I ended up not needing the top shelf but thats another great feature about this unit. One can make it the size and height needed without much difficulty. Also, it is very sturdy!. I would definitely buy another one in the furture and I completely reccommend this to anyone! see less

I was looking for an inexpensive book case that didn't look cheap. This book case has worked nicely for my family. We use it in our front entry with six medium room essential baskets to hold hats and mittens. It has just enough finishes like the turned feet and some molding, to be passed off as a more expensive piece of furniture. I was looking for something to use to put my printer and humidifier other things in some vertical storage so save space in a small room. No additional tools are needed to assembly this and it is easy to assemble. Since the outer shelf edges aren't flush with the edges of the posts, I recommend having something wedge-like or with varying degrees of thickness to prop up the self during assembly. I bought this bookcase today in-store to hold various electronics -modem, router, ReadyNAS, etc- in my gaming room. It really makes everything look nice- the color of it is awesome! I'd even go so far as to say it looks like it's from a nice furniture store- it definitely looks like it's worth more than I paid. I was concerned about the possible shipping damage due to other reports it arrived early and with no damage. I never put anything like this together before so it took awhile but it was not too difficult. The online video helped. This is one of the hardest things I've ever put together! I thought I could do it myself, but definitely needed my husband to lend a hand to help hold everything together. The instructions are pretty basic, but implenting them was harder than expected. However, once it was actually together, I absolutely loved it. The wood isn't that cheap particle board that you get a lot with more inexpensive furniture. I decided to use it as a bedside table since we have a king-sized bed and needed something taller than a standard nightstand plus extra storage, and it looks great. I actually received it for Christmas and ordered another one today so I'll have a set for our room. Love this piece, but make sure you have help to assemble it! see less

This shelf looks very nice in my home and is the perfect size for the space that I needed to fill......however, the baskets arrived FILTHY and I had to spend time cleaning them up. Also, I agree with other reviewers who say this piece is difficult to assemble. You definitely need someone there to give you an extra pair of hands. Finally, I feel while this is a nice piece of furniture, it's overpriced for the size and the difficult assembly process. I think about [$] would be a more appropriate price, not [$]. Check those measurements! If you want a tiny bookcase, this is for you. More of an accent piece than an actual, functional bookcase. Good for kids rooms, bathrooms. I like the look and feel of the product, quality is ok. Assembly is a little tricky. Expensive for a such a tiny piece, that's my major criticism. see less
